Aside: Shouldn't this be in a different forum, as it is aviation related?
Yikes. Well, unless people know some big secrets that I don't, I think you would be looking at $8,000 USD / $9,400 CAD per person for a mid-week departure, one-week duration first class round trip ticket "YTO<->LON".
For business class with otherwise the same trip parameters, I would think $2,500-$3,500 USD per person. But I don't know how Delta, Continental, BA
, KLM, etc have configured the "Business Class" on their various transatlantic equipment, so maybe that's worth it or maybe not.
I know that "business is business," and that airlines do have reasons for setting their prices the way they do, but business and first class ticket prices do kind of piss me off when I consider that a coach ticket for the flight above would cost from $400-600. With these prices, I could buy FOUR coach tickets just for myself and (in theory) remove the seat next to me, the seat in front of me, and the seat kitty-corner in front of me and STILL pay less than I would have to just to get a single business class seat! I'm pretty darn sure that a business class seat takes up CONSIDERABLY less space than four coach seats, so I say "WTF"!
Needless to say, I have given up hope of flying anywhere in anything other than coach any time in the near future. If I had some money and wanted to pay for comfort on a plane, the only thing I can see affording any time soon is to buy a "fat person / musical instrument" ticket for the seat next to me or even for the whole sub-row (if it's 3-3 seating or 3-4-3 and I'm in one of the "3" rows). Sure, that wouldn't be as good as business or first class, but it would be many times cheaper!
If you don't want it known, don't say it on a phone.
