Tony Dungy's 18 Year Old Son Found Dead

Wow thats just horrible news. He's one of those good guys in the NFL. Always respectful, just terrible news.

This puts losing that game on Sunday and not going undefeated in perspective for everyone.

Hi everyone,
Even though I hate the Colts (NE Fan) I always have respected Coach Dungy. He's a person of class, something that is rare in this day and age. My sympathies to his family, especially given the time of year. I guess this puts things into perspective, that there are more important things than sports.

Dungy is a great coach and an even better person. This is horrible news, especially this time of the year. I hope him and his family can pull through.

I always liked Tony Dungy, especially when he coached "my" Bucs.

He was a true gentleman on and off the field. Terrible news.

My sympathies to him and his family.

So far the police have said there was no 'foul play' involved. An autopcy will be done. He was taking some classes at a nearby college. He is a big guy, about 6' 7". My first suspicion would be a bad heart or an aneurysm. Tony Dungy is a very good coach, well respected by his players, the league and fans. Although a relatively minor issue, one has to wonder how much of an affect this will have on the rest of Indy's season. I assume many football fans are saddened by Dungy's loss.

The Colts are the team I love to hate, but the fact that that is the case is a reflection of how good a coach Dungy is, and I could never root against him. That's horrible, to lose your son right before Christmas. My thoughts go out to the Dungy family.

How terrible.

Tony Dungy is one of the NFL's top gentlemen, regardless of his ability to coach. His grief at this time must be unspeakable and unconsolable.

I offer my prayers and condolences to him and his family at this most difficult time.

Do you think the Colt's loosing last week had anything to do with his death ?

Seriously its sad for any parent to loose a child. One can only imagine how good a father T.D. was being that he is so respected and loved by many people.

Terrible news. They used to go to out church when they still lived in Tampa, and they were certainly respectable people.

On another note (not trying to be disrespectful), but this is directly from SchnittShow.com, a local radio show:

Amazing how so often bad things befall such good people. Dungy is the class of the league, imho, and this is just devistating news, especially right before Christmas.

Puts sports in such a pale light against the trails of daily life.

May Tony and his family find comfort and peace.

Wow...thanks for the link. We will have to wait and see what the autopsy will reveal. Regardless, my prayers go out to the Dungy family. I hope they can find a way to get through this.

According to the St. Petersburg Times, the medical examiner office is handling this as a suicide, which if true makes this tragedy even worse. The thought of an 18 year old taking his own life, would be heartbreaking for any family. Again if this is so, and I'm not saying it is, maybe it will become a wakeup call for football coaches to spend time with their families during the season and not work twenty hours days.

The profile is down already.

RIP to him and may the Lord help his relative during this sad time.

Yeah myspace yanked the profile.

Horrible tragedy. I've been listening to the radio here in town all day and sports has been put aside and they are paying respects to James.

No matter what he was going through, it must have been compeltely horrible to take his own life.

My heart goes out to Coach Dungy and his wife and children. No parent should ever have to bury their children.

We are taking this news really hard here in Indianapolis. The team had a memorial service this morning and there was a memorial service at the church that the Dungys attend from 4:00 - 6:00 pm today (Friday).

My father died on Christmas Eve in 1997 so I can appreciate in a small way what the family is feeling. May God comfort them all.
