Believe In Ghosts/spirits? Ever Seen One?

Tue Dec 27, 2005 10:30 am

Just curious, but do you believe in ghosts/spirits? Have you ever seen one or heard about one from an extremely trusted source? OR, do they just not exist....absolutely cannot in this rational & logical corporeal world of ours?

Any thoughts are highly welcome.

Cheers.

Well, I did read Robert Fuller's "The Ghost of Flight 401" ...

but, who knows? I'm not one to rule out things because I don't understand them. I like to keep an open mind, and like to think there is some sort of afterlife.

I was staying over at a friends house one night back in October 2004 and i got up at 5:55am to go for a pee. I walked out of the living room (i was sleeping on the sofa) and as i entered the kitchen (there's a toilet on the left) i saw a dark outline of a person, about 6ft tall wearing a hat! To say i almost sh!t myself is an understatement....i flew into that bathroom and stayed there a while so i could calm down!! I finally opened the door to see nothing standing there and attributed it to me having seen nothing more than a shadow. BUT, i stayed over the next night and made sure all the same lights were on, i stood in the same spot to see if anything would create a shadow etc etc and nothing did. I'm convinced i saw a ghost, and if that means i get ridiculed then so be it. I was awake, not sleepy as i'd been contemplating getting up to use the loo for quite a while.....I still would have thought it was just a shadow if it wasn't for the fact that the ppl i was staying with weren't even the slightest bit concerned. They were happy that i'd seen 'grandpa'!!!!!!

Cheers

I've never seen a ghost or spirit, but I have witnessed far more than my fair share of unexplainable experiences ... usually premonitions in the form of very vivid dreams. I don't like it, at all.

I thought I saw a ghost a few months ago, but I'm sure it was just my mind playing tricks on me. I was driving down the street and saw a man standing at a bus-stop while I was stopped at a red light. I'm not sure why I noticed him. A few blocks later, I came to another red light and saw the same man standing there. Harmless, but weird.

I've had friends that have seen ghosts, as well as family members with stories that are completely inexplicable. Unfortunately, most of the stories are verifiable, which gives me shivers.

Two Incidents I can think of..

I was at the hospital, waiting for my grandfather to die. I sat around and waited and i couldn't wait anymore. I leaned over to my grandfather and said "Good bye, I love you" He mumbled very incoherently "see you later Alex" He was out of it, so I thought nothing of it. I went home crying my eyes out knowing it was the last time I would see him. I brushed my teeth, went to bed and thought nothign else of it. Out of nowhere I heard a BOOM! I woke up jerkingly, heard a whisper "bye alex" and saw a figure go out fo my room and shut my door. I mean the door closed in front of me. I looked at the clock-1:10am. Went back to bed a bit startled.

The next day I woke up and saw my mom crying and knew her father had died. So i went over and eveyrone else has come over too and we were just talking about what to do next etc etc. My mom said "Oh Alex grandpa said your name last night right before he died. he just out of no where said bye alex. I said oh he must have been responding to me saying bye to him. she said no it happened much later, he died about 10 after 1.

I said last night?! she said ya why? i said white as heck "i saw him then and heard him" told her what happened and she said u saw it said 1:10am on the clock? i said yes.

I was convinced right at the time he died he came into my room and said one final good bye to me.

The other one, also involved my grandfather. This time after he died. We were going to a family reunion a week later, 6 months after he died. This was going to be his side of the family we were seeing. I went to bed and started dreaming again. I saw my grandfather come up to me and he said Hi Alex. I said Hi. I was not frightened by it at all. He came over and he started to rub my shoulders. He used to do this all the time before he had died. So this wasnt unexpected. Then out of nowhere I smelled cologne coming from him. He NEVER wore cologne. I said what on earth, why do I smell this? Immedialty a BANG and I woke up. I immediatly smelled the same cologne smell in my room. I got out of bed but then i let out a cry of pain. My shoulders hurt tremendously, just as if someone had been rubbing them in real life! Then the pain went away. And so did the smell. The next day I went to my grandma's house. Told her about my dream and she said that sounds nice. I said ya but i also wore a cologne, so i thought nothing of it. Her face was white. I said whats the matter? She said you said u smelled cologne in your room and on him in your dream? I said yes, but he doesnt wear cologne so dont worry about it. She said follow me. We went into my grandpas old room, she went into his drawer, and pulled out a small bottle of cologne, asked em to smell it and asked if it was this one. I said indeed it was, it was the same cologne i smelled in my dream. She said "your grandfather stopped wearing cologne a long time ago before you were born but when he did it was this cologne. I dont know why you smelled it in your dream. I was again, white as heck on my face and had goosebumps all over me after hearing that. Chills down my spine!

I had the same experience with both my parent's deaths. Both were sick in hospital (different years though)... both died at near or precisely 3am and in both cases I was woken up with the sound of someone (the sound of each parent actually) calling my name. In my dad's case the hospital called me at 3:30am to tell me he had died at 3am and in my mother's case there was a message on my answering machine that she had died at 3am. In both their cases I was woken out of a deep sleep at 3am hearing my name being called. I never heard a phone only someone calling me name.. to the point I actually sat up and said to myself it sounded like my mother, yet the phone must have been ringing and I never heard it. Also in my mother's case my aunt in Nova Scotia also was woken up about 10 minutes later thinking of my mother. I too was convinced in both cases the moment they died they came to my room to let me know and say good bye and my mother went to see my Aunt, someone she definatley would have wanted to see before going on. It might all have been nothing but it did startled me at the moment yet left me with a comforting ending to all their sickness knowing they were able to pass on doing what thet wanted to do.

Haven't posted in quite a while because I've been pretty busy with life in general, but figured I'd start back up with this little story I heard tonight.

Anyways, me and my father were discussing this earlier and he told me that about two years ago he was talking to his friend who's a security guard at an entertainment center. He had told my father he thought he saw a guy they know named Charlie who worked maintenance spending most of his time keeping a miniature golf course in working order. Kenny the security guard said it was odd he thought he saw him there smoking and called his name, before walking over. When he got there Charlie was no where to be found. When Kenny told this to my father, he said you're joking around right. Kenny said no why would I be screwing around about this, I just thought it was kind of weird I haven't seen him around in a while and he left even though he heard me call out his name. Then my father told him the news of the previous month, that Charlie had passed away. I wouldn't believe this but it really freaked Kenny out and he swears to the story, he also said the guy out there was definitely Charlie. A little weird.

While I "think" I haven't seen a ghost before, I do believe I spoke with my grandfather who passed away over a year ago. a few months after his passing, I was asleep and I had a more than VIVID dream with him in it. I remember the dream being in color and he looked just as I had remembered him. The only thing that I recall him saying is that he wanted to speak with me for 20 minutes. I remember doing so, but I don't recall what the conversation was about.

This same grandfather told me years ago (before he died of course) that when the family dog died, he saw the ghost of the dog running through the house.

Hmmm....Interesting thread. While I believe the majority of this stuff is bullshit, I also believe that some is true.

Whether these things are actually ghosts or just our brains working over-time I don't know. We only use something like 5% of our brain's capability or something don't we?

Can't say I've ever experienced much, except for the other week when I was in that state of just about to fall asleep and I jumped when I though I heard someone saying my name.

My Nana once told me a story of her and my Papa (who has sadly passed away), then were in bed and all of a sudden the alarm clock flew over the bed from his besdide cabinet to her's. She seemed to be telling the truth but I'm not sure.

My mum recently went with a friend to one of these spiritual people. I'm very sceptical of these types, but you got to keep a recording on tape and loads of things she said seemed believable. Such as my mum's dead Gran was watching me doing my revision for some exams up in the attic. Now I only revised when no-one else was in the house to annoy me so I don't know how this spiritual person could have guessed that. There were loads of other things which I can't remember, but I was certainly impressed.

Ah well, guff over. But I do believe there are things we just can't explain yet.

Well, I believe...

Have seen one sight when I was a teenager which I cannot explain to this day but really scared me, also experienced what is commonly called a poltergeist which was interesting to say the least. In my later years I have tended to 'sense' ghosts or spirits but not seen or heard them, just a strong sense that they are there; don't feel scared or threatened by them, they are just there and that is that. I guess if you are on their wavelength you will tap in to them.

Atrude777, yes, there are many stories of the departed saying goodbye in this way. A close relative of mine had a similar experience and your description of a 'bang' or 'boom' is absolutely identical to what I was told.

My roomate read that book, and slept with the lights on for like a week...he has it on his bookcase, but from what he told me, I'm too scared to read it.

This story will have some significance to Ghostbase, as we have worked on a website devoted to old closed military installations. I work at an old Naval Air Station, Cecil Field. It closed in 99 (fuck you Clinton), but I spent the majority of my childhood there as my dad was a pilot there. Anyways, so a few months ago, I was exploring in my dad's old hangar...as you can see, it's deserted to this day

http://ghostbase.org/cecil/cf023.jpg
http://ghostbase.org/cecil/cf105.jpg
I was upstairs in the hangar, walking alone, as I didn't have anything to do at work that night- the sun was going down, so the hangar was kind of creaking/moaning as it cooled down. I go walking through my dad's old office, and the old Ready Room, and down the long cooridor upstairs in the hangar. This passageway goes the length of the hangar upstairs, and boasted enough room to house four full attack squadrons. Anyways, the sun is going down, and there's minimal ambient lighting (no power on building)...the passageway receedes into darkness. Down the hallway, I noticed a flightsuit-clad figgure, slowly walking away from me, and into the darkness.

I at first didn't believe it, because alot of my childhood memories of this hangar were back when it was bustling with pilots, and it was not uncommon to see alot of people. I kept walking, and sure enough, there was a nomex flightsuit dissapearing down the hallway. I was a little freaked out, so I left, but only to come back the next day to replicate it...sure enough, I saw pretty much the same thing, so I knew my eyes weren't lying.

Was I totally scared? No...I believe that any ghost out there would not have harmful intentions- maybe just old aviators going back to their home. Many Navy pilots touched their last piece of soil at Cecil Field, only to go out on a final flight, or be killed overseas in 'Nam and Desert Storm. This hangar has been there since the 60's, so it's logical.

Anyways, there's my story.

When my grandfather died alot of unexplainable things happened around my aunt and grandmothers house. For instance, months later, the toilet seat was up when no one had touched it, all of them had seen shadows, and sometimes there are loud bangs or booms in the house. One time particularly where my aunt was installing my grandmothers new chair for going up the stairs, and there was a loud boom when my aunts were discussing how my grandfather would never want to pay the money for one.

yes and yes

not only did I see it, but several other people saw the same apparition on other occasions. Later a sensitive was able to put a name to the ghost and perfectly describe the circumstances of why that soul was still doing what it was doing, with no chance whatsoever of their having prior knowledge of the circumstances.

Long and involved story which would take too much space here, but when your own eyes and ears see and hear stuff like that then it's hard to not believe.

Good to hear you are still out at Cecil DeltaGuy. Very believable experience, an awful lot of former airfields here in the UK have a similar atmosphere and history.

Many years ago, in the village where I grew up....... there's a castle (dating from the 11th Century)

http://www.conisbroughcastle.org.uk/

At the time there was no electricity installed inside the castle. Inside the keep are walkways.

One evening I saw a light in a window (hole in wall - no glass). There is no access to that window except by means of abseiling down inside the keep. What was someone doing abseiling down the keep of an 11th Century castle at 21:30? The castle is in a secure area. It's locked at night.

I'm not sure if this was a ghost or not, but it sure freaked me out. It was early morning on December 26, 2002, I don't know the exact time. I was in a half sleep/half awake state, it happens at night. As I opened my eyes and shifted myself on the bed, I saw this weird white shape floating near the end of my bed. I totally freaked. When you're scared of something, you tend not to think logically, so I simply closed my eyes and remained motionless, under the rationale that whatever that thing was wouldn't notice me if I did that. Finally, I got up at the first sign of light, and went into the office, turned on the all the lights, the TV, and the computer and tried to forget everything that happened.

I don't know if that was a ghost or just a trick of the mind, but I was scared...

RE: Believe In Ghosts/spirits? Ever Seen One?

Fri Dec 30, 2005 5:24 am

Many, many years ago my parents had a couple of very good friends, Jack and Mavis White. My mother and Mavis had met when they were both in hospital delivering their first babies – my elder brother Peter and Mavis’ oldest daughter Sue. This was in 1949.

When they visited in winter, Jack always walked into the living room and warmed his backside in front of the open hearth. Unfortunately his health was not too good. Jack had suffered three heart attacks before one of his daughters had, with the benefit of hindsight, rather unwisely bought him a greenhouse for his birthday in February 1976. Being a stubborn old git he insisted on putting up this greenhouse himself. Unfortunately it cost him his life. Jack left a wife and three daughters behind, and his elderly mother. His wife, poor thing, already had problems with manic depression and she never really recovered again.

A few years later my parents had gone away for a weekend break, and I was walking back home after having dinner at the neighbours'. As I walked along the footpath that runs parallel to our house, I glanced into the living room, and there was Jack standing in front of the hearth warming his behind as usual. But it was Summer – no open hearth. I ran inside and into the living room, but of course he had disappeared. That day, Saturday 12 July 1980, his mother had passed away.

Regards, Robert

I'm not going to say that ghosts don't exist, but that was probably really your mind playing tricks on you. I witnessed exactly the same when I was working overtime at home. Back then I sometimes (or should I say: frequently?) saw a white shape or a white outline floating through the open door that leads to the hallway. Yes, it was scary, I actually uttered a half-suppressed scream the first time I saw it.

Factors that help seeing those shapes are:
- being tired/stressed out
- a mix of brightness in one room and darkness in the other
- the shape will likely be seen from the corner of your eye where the light fades into darkness.

I have seen 3:

First when I was 4 and a fat woman with bad hair appeared, screaming and waving her arms about, through one wall and out the other. We found out there had been at least 2 suicides in the house.

Later, in 1997, alone in the Scottish hills, (Knoydart) I saw 2, they may have been the same one each time, a black figure, first time it was coming down hill towards me, then sat down and pointed to the south, I looked away and looked back...gone.

Next day, the same figure was walking uphill away from me, as I came down the other side of the valley, it turned towards me, pointed to the south again, I looked down to grab my camera, looked up....gone.

No footprints to be found in either scenario, I camped beside a fast stream to block out the thoughts in my head that night!!!

This occured at the same time that a chain events started that ended up with me emigrating to NZ 6 years later...NZ is south of, well, everywhere really!

No, and I do not believe in any of it. I am a very analytical person and have never seen anything that was not explainable by science. Not even anything close to being unexplainable.

I believe that if you wish something to be true, or want something to happen, you will make it true or make it happen in your own mind, if you are willing to allow your mind to believe it to exist without explanation. This is not to say that I doubt the truth of accounts described above, I believe that most of the events did occur, at least within the realm of the mind of the person describing the event.

I respect all of your rights to think and believe as you do, and I hope you respect mine. A question, though- Is it just that in my 39 years on this earth that I am one of the only ones not to witness such things, or is it that I am oblivious to them? I would, for the sake of argument, like to actually be able to point to something that has happened to me and say that it could be similar to the accounts described above, but nothing has even come close.

RE: Believe In Ghosts/spirits? Ever Seen One?

There were legends about the Black Bass Hotel in Lumberville, PA that I used to manage, of a woman in a gown and pearl necklace who roamed the hotel. There were ghost hunters that used to come down from NY to hold a seance or Ouji board sessions there in some of the rooms. Legend has it, she was killed in the basement of the hotel and can is commonly seen in the corner behind the bar. I never saw her, but a few others there say they did.

Lumberville
Black Bass Hotel- built as a fortified haven for river travelers in the turbulent days of the 1740's when hostile Indian bands roamed the forests on the river is said to be haunted. Reports of a woman in white roaming the halls and sighted in a guestroom with a pearl-handled revolver in her lap. Legend shares that Hans, an original innkeeper was stabbed to death in tavern, the pool of blood on the tavern floor has been said to appear on several occasions.

I think that if you did see "something" your analytical mind would find an explanation, even though Occam's Razor might suggest that it wasn't the best explanation, as Spock would say "it's illogical" so maybe you have witnessed something strange but analysed it into a logical fit.

This doesn't make you a bad person, but it shows how our brains are all wired differently, I have saved myself from the pits of despair on many an occaision by analysing the situation until I found a "positive" slant that I could live with, that slant may or may not have had any connection to the real situation but it helped me handle myself and the situation.

Probably the same sort of scenario with you, don't be too disappointed, gay straight, psychic, logical, we're all different. My brother can write software, i can set the tappets on a Triumph Bonneville in the dark! Smile

I believe in them, and while I haven't seen them, I have certainly dealt with them.

The story I will give is when I went to a "Christmas" party with my aunt. I am a Christian, she is a member of UNITY (who claim to be Christian, but really aren't at all). So the party is at her "Pastor's" house, and pretty much as soon as I came into the place, I could feel people grabbing me, even though there was no person around. I would sit down, and people would sit on me, even though there was no one in the room. I couldn't seem to escape them. I couldn't breathe because there were so many spirits on and around me. I prayed and prayed for relief, and as quietly as I could I told them to get off of me. They did, and I went as quickly as I could to the bathroom, where oddly enough, a cross was on the wall. I called my parents, and they both began to pray for me. Upon leaving the bathroom, the spirits did not return to bother me, and shortly thereafter, my aunt told me she was ready to leave.

The point is, you don't have to see them to know they exist.

Last time there was a thread about this and I talked of my experiences certain user(s) did exactly that, so I don't feel like tolerating BS again. Those who contacted me, got a reply  Wink

Then again, it could be the case that people here are growing up, even though I highly doubt it  Silly

I believe they exist, although I've never seen one myself. My wife has seen her deceased father several times-and her two sisters and her mom confessed to here they've seen him as well. I told her to let me know if he appears, but I bet I might not see him, because I don't have the emotional connection to him that she does.

I have no doubt ghosts exist. None whatsoever.

I have not seen a ghost/spirit but heard one.

My mum and dad own a gym and about 2 Weeks ago me and my dad decided to go there and do some general maintenance on the machines. We unlocked the first glass door and walked in turned around and locked it again. We then walked through the next large glass door and looked at the signing in and out book while doing this we heard a large bang upstairs, we look at each other and decide to go upstairs. My dad is now saying that one of the staff must have slept there, obviously trying to reassure himself. We walk up the stairs, they are very silent when you walk up them. Im the first one up there and quickly look to my right, when I hear another large bang. I'm now very curious and we walk on.
(the upstairs is almost a large open plan area its 84X30ft but has a rise in floor in the middle and large screens separating it off)
We then hear this loudish running noise as if someone was running and then the stamping as whatever it was went down the other stairs. Knowing the front door is securely locked we go down the other stairs were there's a fire exit, it has a large bit of wood keeping it shut but easy to get out of in emergency, the wood is still in place SO the door couldn't have opened ( as the bar would have fallen and the door would be open) SO I believe it was a spirit. As far as I know no-one has ever died there in the whole life of the building before we received it, after we had searched the whole building we just set down to work and forgot about the incident but I would really like to know what it was as I don't really fear ghost for this one simple reason, how many death reports ( I think there called coroner reports) "suspected to have been killed by spirit/ghost."

P.S Excellant idea for a thread (even though been regulaly discussed).

Do I believe in them? hmmm not sure.

Before my Mother died she was rushed into the Hospital twice due to low sodium. She had cancer and it was messing up her body bad.

Both times she was deliourus..... she kept mumbling the same thing over and over and it sounded like six, six........Both time she did this for hours till they got her sodium level up.

The last time she was rushed in, I brought her. After ten days she passed away in her sleep. Before that she could not feed herself or anything. The last night we did not see the signs  Sad

She ate like she was at a 5 star resturant. I mean she fed herself and was so elegant in holding the silverware and all.

I told her I might be late seeing her the next morning.... I was there 12 hours a day for the past 10 days and was a bit tired. She could not talk and everything was a mumble but I saw the look of disappointment when I told her, I then said You know what I will be here at 7am like I have been. She gave me a big smile, I said good night and I love you. This was at 8:30 pm March 5th 2002.

My Mom's only wish was to be back at home. 3 months prior when we were told her cancer was back I said she would not make it 3 months for my Brothers wedding. I told my wife and other family I would hate to get a call at 2am saying she passed away. I was to be called 1st as I was her proxy.

Anyhow I got a call at 2:09 am March the 6th and was told my Mother passed away in her sleep.

Several things struck me after a day of collecting my thoughts.

1) I can't figure out how I knew or had a feeling 3 months earlier she would not make it the 3 months and how it would be around 2am I would get a call.

I do not go to Church, but I have said a few prayers over the years. I did ask if she was going to die to please take her before she suffered and she did not suffer.

2) I think my Mother knew she was going to die that night. After 10 days of not being able to hold a fork or knife let alone a cup she did like a Queen.

3) and the kicker or them all.........

When my brothers and sisters and I all met at my Mothers place 2 days later to start the cleaning and going through things we all walked into her apartment and almost ran out scared shitless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The clock on her wall stopped at 1:41....................... Now the clock was fine the morning of the 5th as I was there getting her mail and looked up at the time.

Now we all thought of the six, six she repeated over for hours and hours and came to the conclusion of she came home for her final wish.

The clocks time was 1:41 and add them up and it's 6 plus she died on the 6th.

Now as for the clock, well it was still running but the second hand for what ever reason seemed to have hit a spot on the glass face and was stuck while it moved in one spot, this made the clock stop going forward but it was just there at 1:41 still ticking..................

So do I believe in hosts? I can't say for sure. But seeing what happened over those few days had be think that my Mom told us she went home like she wanted.

I spoke to the Nurse a few days later as I had to know the exact time of death. She last checked my Mother at 1:30am.... she then she found her at 2am on her rounds. I told her the story and she said she has heard of this a few times......................

My father wokred in hospitals for a good many years, apparently this final rallying a day before passing away is not uncommon, like they need a good feed for the journey ahead.
