New Year's Eve/Day Overrated Thread!

Wed Dec 28, 2005 10:07 am

What end of the year crunch week would not be complete without that thread asking if the whole New Years Eve/New Years Day concept is overatted bullshit. I will go on record saying New Years is much adoo about nothing. Spend more money, get drunk and feel like shit the next day. Oh boy and then watching all those Bowl games: Mr. Clean Tidy Bowl, Meow Mix Food Bowl.
I'll give New Years some props on special occasions such as the beginning of a new decade and especially the Y2K jazz but otherwise, Moo! (bullshit).
The good cheer and commeradery of Thanksgiving, Christmas, Chanakuah and Quanza all fall by the wayside. And oh yeah those cheese retail sales, save money on toilet seats and matresses. Put me to sleep and wake me up on 02Jan2006 thank you!

PS fellow A-Netters, I don't need a bullshit holiday to have fun and party

Sorry, Jan. 1 is a Sunday, that means it's NFL. College bowls are on Jan. 2.

Can't really argue with the rest, though. Not that I'm going to sit at home in protest, but I can't really get into it like some people... 'amateur night'.

Dude, I got no problem with the NFL my team plays game 16 at 1300.
And amateur night, more like the early fuckups on American Idle.

I like New Year's. No religion, no gifts, no expectations, just good friends, eating food, getting drunk, and forgetting all the crap that happened in the past year. Here's to 2006!

I love New Years. It's a great excuse to hang out with all my old buddies... Jack, Johnnie, and Samuel.

Don't need to have the "family meal" that is obligatory (and whipping) on other holidays.

And no one complains when you have a hang over the next day... it's expected.

Seriously... can we make other holidays like this?

I don't care too much about New Years....i don't make any plans up till New Years Eve, and if nothing pans out then i go to bed and that's that! This year i have 2 choices right now...i can either go to a large party at my friends place, or i can nip down the hallway and spend New Years with a girl that's invited me over. Oh wait, i could just go to sleep instead, lol. We'll see what happens, but at least we don't have to buy gifts!!!!

Cheers

Same here, usually I am going on holidays over New Year's Eve/Day but unfortunately not this year. I never went to big parties on that day, either I spent New Year's Day with a few friends while having a nice drink or with my girlfriend and a bottle bubbly (like this year).

New Year's Eve?? To me that means going to overcrowded pubs and...assuming you can get in in the first place...waiting half an hour to get served at the bar. It's not too bad if you can find a local pub that only lets you in if you've bought a ticket beforehand. That way the crowds are controlled and the people are friendly because they want to be there rather than thinking they have to be there as it's New Years and they're supposed to get drunk!  old

I'd much rather go to a house party, but not many people have those these days. Well, either that or no one invites me any more because I HATE New Year's Eve!!

Needless to say, I have neither a ticket for a local pub, nor an invite to a house party, so unless I get an offer I can't refuse in the next couple of days, I shall be spending this one quietly with family.

I have to agree. Although this year will be interesting because of a few A.netters in town for New Years.
I never understood the idea of spending $100+ to get in to a club, wear a tuxedo and have a glass of champagne to watch an old band 20 years past there prime.

I hate New Year's Eve, I just spend it on here, then go to bed when I'm tired. I got to work on New Year's Day to get some overtime in, and cos I just don't like the day. My parent's are having their friends over for a party for midnight, hopefully they will go somewhere else not long after so I can get some sleep as I'm at work for 8am.

Who needs a holiday for this? I've garnered the same results from some bachelor parties and weddings!

Once, I was at an aquaintence/friends bachelor party. The dude getting married name was Nelson. The big titted leggy blonde brick shithouse stripper made her arrival and asked who is Nelson? I pushed Nelson over, and claimed I was Nelson and this was a shotgun wedding! So, I was close to getting a nice hot seafood buffet but, I wussed out at the last minute, my conscience won out and I helped up the real Nelson and told the stripper, he needs your services more than me, I can get it anytime.
And so another saga in the My name is Zippyjet saga of my life!

BTW the stripper looked a lot like: Mary Carey!  bouncy
