UCLA is the better team, no shit.

The Pac-10 really must be better than the SEC now!! Enough of this east coast bias crap, get a life.

Not to mention this was pac 10 #3 vs. big ten #5. If it was the 'even' matchup, it would have been UCLA vs. Wisconsin- and I think we all know what would happen AGAIN in that matchup.

2000 Sun Bowl

Further proof that you don't know what you're talking about.

I find it somewhat ironic that someone saying the Pac 10 is as good of a football conference as there is, would start a thread calling thier #2 team a joke. Very interesting.

When did I say UCLA beat Wisconsin in the past? Putting words in my mouth? No thanks.

UCLA is a superior team this year. As is the Pac 10, a superior conference. They will win the Bowl Challenge Cup, as they are favored to do. They were favored in ALL of they're games. The lone f**k up being Oregon. They will win the Rose Bowl. Texas can't stop Bush. Leinart, White, and crew. Vince Young IS Texas. That's all they have. A mobile QB. And before you put more words in my mouth, I am not saying he isn't a goo athlete.

Wisconsin was fun for a while this year. They good good press, because Alvarez is calling it quits after a great career with the Badgers. But, they are a middle of the road team. Show me where the Pac 10 is not good this year. Show it to me.

It was jam packed with mediocrity. UCLA having to pull about 3 games out of their ass being down 3 touchdowns to stay undefeated before at ARIZONA of all places and getting their ass whopped expectedly at USC. Cal was totally disappointing, and i'm not sure I could count how many good opportunities lost by ASU on one hand. And with Oregons awful Holiday showing, there is only 1 team from the Pac-10 that is a major player on the national scene. You guessed it, USC.

Great teams find ways to win, nice try.

Cal WAS disapointing. Then they won they're bowl game. Oh wait!! They went to a bowl game!!

Arizona State choked a few times, yes. Oh wait!! THEY went to a bowl game too!!! AND WON!!! *gasp*

Oregon's "aweful" showing? They had a dull 3rd quarter. They damn near pulled it out. OU is a MUCH improved team the secon half of the year. They had to play 12 true freshman, and damn near lost the game. Oregon didn't have an aweful Holiday Bowl. Cal had an aweful Holiday Bowl. Nice try.

Only one team that is a national player? LOL!!!!

Oregon isn't a national player, nope. Can't be at 10-2 now.
UCLA can't be. 10-2 is a shitty record.
USC is un-defeated.
How many two loss teams does the SEC have this year again? Oh, that's right...two.

Let's run down the SEC, shal we?

http://secsports.com/index.php?s=&change_well_id=9997&url_channel_id=2

Sorry, not exactly a great conference if you want to compare it to the Pac 10. You put any of the top five teams in the Pac in the SEC, and they compete every year for the BCS automatic. Period.

Do you not follow college football at all? Ever? In your life? UCLA is a proud program that is finally emerging from a few down years.

As for Oregon, as much as it pains me to admit it, Oregon has been one of the best football programs in the country over the last 10 years. They've played in the Rose Bowl, they've played Michigan, and beaten them. They've gone to, and will host Oklahoma next season. Don't even go there with those two not being national players. That's just a flat out ignorant, STUPID statement. How you can say that with a straight face is beyond me.

Ok, first, I never said OSU was a great team last year. Your twisting my words...That shit pisses me off.

Second: ALL great teams find themselves in tough situations. USC's lone loss two years ago was in TRIPPLE OVERTIME to Cal...a team that was having a pretty good year. They finished with an imprssive win in the Insight Bowl against a quality oponent in Virginia Tech.

USC was a few plays away from losing to a good Notre Dame team this year. Does that diminish how good they have been the last 3 seasons? NO. It doesn't.

Even the great Bulls teams of the 90's lost games, and were in tough situations against both good, and bad teams. That doesn't mean they sucked. Obviously they're success shows that they did not. This is another ignorant statement by someone who wishes he knew what he was talking about.

Pass whatever you are smoking along.

OSU brought over 50,000 to the Fiesta Bowl in 2001.
Oregon did the same in 2002.
Oregon did the same for the Holiday Bowl.

As a matter of fact, I know people that HAVE ASKED THE SEC about that one. I know people that went to the LSU game last year, and were complimented on how WELL OREGON STATE TRAVELED TO THE GAME. They were told they're own CONFERENCE OPONENTS dont travel that way to regular season games.

Ok, fine. You wanna talk about regular season, let's do it.

Until this season, Oregon State had sold out 30+ consecutive home football games. Capacity was only 35,500. I know, not impressive, except the streak was. Capacity is now 45,000.

Oregon: 55,000+ stand room. Sells out ever week

Washington. 70,000+ capacity. Havn't done it the last two years consistantly, but they sold out every week.

USC: they sell out all the time, just cuz they're SC.

UCLA: They're back to selling out 50,000+

Arizona State: 70,000+ Sol out all the time the last three years.

Cal: 60,000+ capacity. Sells out all the time

Sanford: Renovating from 80,000+, down to around 50,000+

I know it isn't Ohio State or Michigan, but people show up to support they're teams. If you think the Big House is loud, go to Autzen Stadium in Eugene.

Do you know that they play in the rose bowl? It seats 100,000. It is only on rare occasions that it is anywhere close to a sellout for a UCLA game.

I guarantee you the Pac-10 finishes a resounding last in overall attendance to the other major conferences. You won't win any argument based on that.

I mention numbers, yes. And I also talk about selling out ball games. Michigan, Ohio State, LSU...they always sell out, yes. So do 7 or 8 out of 10 Pac 10 teams regularly.

there are also only 2 Pac 10 schools with a seating capacity of 100,000 people.

Ok, as the numbers have been published, hopefully i'll be able to put some of your notions to rest.

Arizona 95
OSU 98
WSU 89

Just number crunched the 2003 stats...

SEC: 97% capacity

Pac 10: 78% capacity

Do you realize that USC had to become a dynasty going for 3 straight national championships to sell out their own stadium in an immediate area of 15 million?

That's what makes them so easy to hate. I only root for them now, because I'm sick of people like you who think the Pac 10 is weak.

Sure, why not. Still won't back me down from my argument that the Pac 10 is one of the top 3 conferences in the country year in and year out, with "players" on the national scene year in and year out.

I never said the pac 10 was weak, and do not think it is. It's a good conference, but it sure ain't better than the SEC, Big ten, big 12, or ACC.

This year the Big House was filled up, the Horse Shoe was filled up. Neither team play football as well as I and many people expected. They were filled up. That is loyalty. We need some of that out here. Happy Valley was also filled up, and that is a big stadium too. Nothing compares to OSU vs. Michigan

The Big 10 fans are good and loyal.

S12PPL, theres no point arguing with them. People not from the west never give Pac-10 Football the credit it deserves. Of course we dont have the attendance that the SEC does since football isn't a staple of our lives. They will harp on about their wonderful defense but then they play against other teams with horrible offenses. And the most amazing thing is that they criticize but rarely ever come out to play Pac-10 teams other than in Bowl matchups.

And for those saying there is no east coast bias, try telling that to fans of a conference that gets snubbed on a yearly basis. Someone tell me why FSU (I know they aren't SEC) should be in a BCS bowl with the crappy W-L record that they have?

Because they won the game that gave the automatic bid to the BCS. Trust me, no one in the BCS was rooting for FSU to pull the VT upset in the title game. They want the best teams and matchups. You can blame that on the fact that conference title games give automatic bids, and that this auto-bid system got flawed. FSU did not take Oregon's BCS spot, they took Virginia Tech's. Has absolutely nothing to do with any sort of east coast bias.

I never talked against the pac 10, I just voiced my opinion its a ridiculous notion that the pac 10 is better than the SEC, or in the top 3 conferences. Say what you will about the south *insert hick joke here*, the SEC is a model football conference.

Any conference that needs a conference championship game to decide it's BCS birth, is NOT a model conference. Sorry. The Pac 10 has it right. You play your games. Whoever is in first place, gets the birth. In 2000-2001, Washington, Oregon, and Oregon State all finished in a tie. It was a three way tie, an a split conference championship, but Washington got the "BCS" birth in the Rose Bowl because they beat Oregon State head to head, and Oregon State beat Oregon head to head who they lost to in Eugene. But, because OSU was 10-1, they got an at large to the Fiesta.

As for fans showing up to games...whatever. Oregon state took over 50,000 people. 50,000. Reser Stadium that year only held a little over 35,000 that season. They damn near doubble they're own football stadium's seating capacity. Notre Dame barely took 25,000 people.

The next year, Oregon did similar.

As for attendence, I'll agree, football isn't life out here, as it is in the midwest. Basketball is much bigger out here. Oregon State basketball still has the nation's 13th winningest program in NCAA history. OSU basketball has a much more rich and traditional history than the football program. Untill last year they were no where to be seen, but last year they finally returned to post season play in the NIT.

OSU Baseball drew huge crowds when it's baseball team went on a rampage last year, winning the Pac 10 title, sweeping through the regionals, and beating USC in the Super Regionals, ALL hosted by Oregon State on campus, to go to the World Series in Omaha.

OSU gymnastics is even big. This year we host the NCAA Championships, again on Campus.

???

Idiotic statement. The title game has nothing to do with the storied tradition and other characteristics we have discussed. The title game concept works best in the SEC because they have 2 divisions of 6 teams, and with the SEC's tremendous depth, there is hardly a year where the title game is not a great matchup. Title games can be good, but occasionally they mess things up. But, you are forgetting the largets motivation for a conference title game: MONEY!! Duh! Of course they want another game between the best teams at a neutral site. It's fun, it's exciting, and its $$$. So the SEC is not a model conference because it has enough teams and the ability to have a conference title game? HAHAHA! What is the model conference then, if you judge on that messed up criteria? The Pac 10 wishes that it could have a title game like they do! And maybe someday they will- like they adopted the conference basketball tournament concept- same idea.

What choice did they have in 2000?? Either they gave OSU the Fiesta, or the BCS would have had it's very first travesty. There were no other at large teams that deserved a bid more than OSU that year. They were the only 10-1 team NOT in the BCS that year.

The ACC, and SEC.

Ok, now stop wetting your pants.

When is the last time the ACC had a QUALITY BCS team?

The SEC sure doesn't have one this year.

LSU's title a few years ago was a total joke, and everyone knows it.

You may blame that squarely on the NCAA...I believe its an NCAA football rule that conferences with 12 or more teams are required to be split up into divisions and have a conference championship game...

I know that FSU gets an automatic berth because of their title. If anything that should show how flawed the system is where a team with a W-L record like that can come into a BCS bowl. Or that Notre Dame can get an at-large berth for a BCS bowl. It leaves out more deserving teams IMO.

I don't think anyone here can claim that the Pac-10 is a legendary football conference (Basketball is a whole different story), but the feeling out here remains is that the Pac-10 rarely ever gets the credit it deserves, and few critics offer real cirtiques on the Pac-10. Case in point, I have a friend from The U insist to me that the Pac-10 is the worst football conference around. He couldn't give me any justifiable reason other than repeating that "The Pac-10 is only USC." At the risk of sounding like some politically charged A.net members, I sometimes feel like Pac-10 bashing is a bit of a sport.

They also went to the 2003 and 2004 Sugar Bowl.

What the fuck is your point, moron? What does it matter if they won? The fact that theyve been in 4 BCS games in this decade. That doesn't give them the right to be on my top 3 ACC teams list?

If you could say that about another Pac 10 team (save USC), you'd be jizzing your pants right now.
