James Bond Movies

Mon Jan 02, 2006 11:33 am

This has probably been picked over several times but with spike and now AMC running back to back Bond movies which is your favorite? Your favorite line? Your favorite villian? Favorite Bond girl? Have the Bond movies lost some of their appeal since the gadgets they come out with now are quite as "hi tech" as they used to be?

For me it's:
Goldfinger
"Secret agent? On whose side?" sheriff in "Live and let die"
Odd Job
Jill St. John "Diamonds are forever" loved that bikini.
I think the last few Bond flicks have been reaching a little in the tech department but the plots have been a little more interesting.

hey gilligan, hope your day of o/t went well ...

i love james bond movies, esp. the old-school ones

my fave one is probably 'on her majesty's secret service' - not because of george lazenby (he was good in it, but i am devoted to sean connery in the role) but just the overall film (which, interestingly, he gets married in it near the end) --- the musical score was also good

fave line? from goldfinger ...
1. James Bond: My dear girl, there are some things that just aren't done, such as drinking Dom Perignon '53 above the temperature of 38 degrees Fahrenheit. That's just as bad as listening to the Beatles without earmuffs!

2. Pussy Galore: My name is Pussy Galore.
James Bond: I must be dreaming

fave bond girl? Barbara Bach in 'the spy who loved me' mmmmmmm even gets my gay motor running

i will be honest in saying i haven't seen a bond movie since 'tomorrow never dies' i think ... i just prefer the look and feel of the older ones ... true escapism

I have seen every Bond movie, and my favourite is "From Russia With Love." Some runners up are "The Living Daylights", "Moonraker" and "Goldfinger". My favourite actor is Sean Connery (to me, he symbolizes Jame Bond). My favourite Bond villain is Jaws. For Bond girls, I thought Halle Barrey was great in "Die Another Day". I don't know about specific lines, but I like all the catch phrases like "vodka martini, shaken not stirred" and "the name is Bond, James Bond". I also think that John Cleese is excellent as Q, but will never replace Desmond Llewylen.

Film: that's a hard one, there are many good ones, and many shite ones.

Goldfinger's hard to beat, Goldeneye has a special place in my heart as does From Russia with love. I think perhaps it's For Your Eyes Only, despite Roger Moore.

Favourite Bond: Sean Connery, no question.

Moore was ok (just). Timothy Dalton wasn't too bad, Pierce Brosnan is ok i guess (but wtf was he thinking being in the last one - what a pile of crap!!) and George Lazenby was appalling.

Favourite villain: got to be Goldfinger. He's so classy. He meets bond, brings him to his own place, shows him the plan... got to love the respect.

Favourite Bond Girl: Carole Bouquet, Diana Rigg, Honor Blackman

Quoting LesMainwaring (Reply 2):
2. Pussy Galore: My name is Pussy Galore.
James Bond: I must be dreaming

I love that line. Connery's jokes were sophisicated yet naughty. Brosnan's jokes are crude and obvious and not funny. At all. Ever.

Here's a question....... favourite Bond Car??

I'd have to say, and I amaze myself with this revelation, it's Roger Moore's Lotus Esprit.

Tiffany: "Could be..."
Bond: "I tend to notice little things like that, whether she's a blonde or a brunette."
Tiffany: "And which do you prefer?"
Bond: "Well, provided that the cuffs and collar match... (shrugs)"
"On spaceship earth there are no passengers...only crew."

I think the Bond film series is gonna seriously suffer at the box office due to the fact they didn't give Pierce Brosnan what he asked for/deserved. Who the hell is Daniel Craig? He looks like a serial killer, not a ladies man/international spy...

Did anyone see Brosnan in "After the Sunset" with Selma Hayek, Woody Harrelson, and Don Cheadle? Man I was so surprised!!!  Smile

Goldfinger. Sean Connery set the standard. Roger Moore did very well despite the oversexualization of everything in the 1970s. Dalton did decently with the scripts he was given. I really like the way Brosnan has played Bond recently, even though the dialogue has been crude even by James Bond standards. George Lazenby was by far the worst ever. Sure the script was bad, but he had absolutely no clue during the movie. Which is too bad because the book "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" was one of the better ones and had a lot of potential.

"No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die!"

Goldfinger

Either Barbara Bach or Ursula Andress

The Bond movies have lost some of their appeal because it's just like watching a 90 minute long Pepsi advertisement.

And the Aston Martin DB-7 is by far the coolest car  Smile

I must admit that Brosnan was a pretty good Bond.

Everyone likes Connery, but I think he phoned in his performance in the movie that took place in Nevada (I can't remember the name right now), and that sort of taints his overall grade as Bond. Don't get me wrong -- he was excellent in From Russia with Love and a number of others.

I agree that by Moonraker, Moore was way too jokey.

All in all, I gotta say that the Bond franchise is a bit of a mixed bag. But the great, super-spy moments more than make up for the crummy ones, IMHO.  Smile

The Aston-Martin DB5 from Goldfinger is by far the best, IMHO. It set the standards for Bond cars.

The Lotus Esprit MkI in The Spy Who Loved Me is my other favorite... afterall it turns into a submarine.

The Toyota 2000GT from You Only Live Twice gets honorable mention as it was a completely one-off custom car, as the real life 2000GT was a coupe only.

And for shits n' giggles I always liked the AMC Hornet in The Man With the Golden Gun.

I think Moore really got into the Bond role in The Spy Who Loved Me. That's is probably my favorite movie. Stromberg is one of the coolest villians, and Amasova is a drop-dead sexy co-star. Plus the writing is top-notch, without most of the hokey antics you see in other Moore films.

Oh, and a Carly Simon theme song!  thumbsup

You got that right.

My favourite is "The Spy Who Loved Me" - which includes one of the best Bond songs EVER: "Nobody Does It Better". Roger Moore was also a very very cool Bond - and the mix of locations in Spy really does it for me. Great film.

Although probably the best Bond line was a fairly recent one. In "The World is Not Enough" Brosnan (Bond) turns to Denise Richards (Dr. Christmas Jones) during lovemaking at the end of the movie and exclaims: "I thought Christmas only came once a year".

I love the James Bond movies but some of them have really been crap over the last few years... this last one was especially bad.

Favorite movie:
I actually have two... "Goldfinger" is arguably the best one as it set the tone for all James Bond movies... evil villains, great Bond Girl names and that Aston Martin...
I also like "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" as well, even though George Lazenby was a joke of a 007. The script is probably one of the best, it is partly filmed in Portugal and you can even see him marry to the daughter of a gangster (as if that concept existed over here).

Favorite villain:
Jaws

Quoting LesMainwaring (Reply 2):

You got that right, but I don't understand how no-one has mentioned Jane Seymour in "Live and Let Die". Me just loves the red-heads...

Favorite quote:
Moneypenny to James Bond: "Oh James, you always were a cunning linguist!" (while he was at Oxford "studying Danish", in Tomorrow Never Dies, I believe).

Actually, that line is from Diamonds Are Forever... just before the title credits.

One line from the preceeding scene shows a guy playing blackjack in Cairo. "Hit me!" he replies.

Camera shot from the back of his head, a hand taps him on the shoulder, he turns around BAM!

The boat chase scene in Tomorrow Never Dies (or was it in The World Is Not Enough?) at least in terms of the most action packed in such a small time-space.

Best inside-joke opening was in On Her Majesty's Secret Service just after Teresa (Diana Rigg) deserts Bond (Lazenby) just after he prevents her from committing suicide in the ocean. Bond just replies, "This never happened to the other fellow." (meaning Connery, of course).

I sure am. I know they keep details of Bond movies to a minimum but do you know if it will be filmed in Portugal? (Ian Fleming was a British spy in Lisbon, spy capital of the world at the time, during World War 2 and many people say the original book, Casino Royale, was inspired by events that happened at Estoril casino, where all spies would hang about). I am not familiar with the exact story of Casino Royale but it would be cool to once again be selected as shooting ground for a Bond movie, specially considering this one could be a considered a return to the origins.
