Not worry, but I am conscious for health reasons. Fruit and vegetables are important to me (trying to find a restaurant in Phoenix that serves vegetables is not easy - coleslaw is NOT a decent alternative in my book).

I also won't eat fries (or fast food) more than twice a week.

Well, I won´t (consciously) eat food containing bowels. I also try to keep a reasonable balance between fruit, vegetables and hefty meals. Fast Food once a week is ok but not more.

Yes, I try to avoid eating genetically altered foods as there has not been enough research done on them by the FDA or other reputable organizations proving that the chemicals and processes used to modify the foods make them safe to eat.

As part of my own personal conspiracy theory, I fully believe that what we are being served by fast food places, is probably something worth worrying about....

Seriously, however, I am pretty dubious about a lot of these altered foods, and food prepared for us.

When I buy an item for the first time, I check the ingredients (and I verify them sporadically after that in case they've changed). Stuff I don't like I don't buy, so why worry too much?

Working at grocery, i can honestly tell you, even if you buy organic there is no gaurantee the way that it was packaged, transported, or even purchased(i.e. placed on a dirty belt, or in a dirty cart) that the itme is "pure."

Generally, no. I live life to the full, and as long as it isn't obviously too fatty I'll eat it. I love a good bacon sandwich! I'm not too concerned about GM products, or non organic products. To me, GM and organic items taste the same anyway, so I couldn't care less. I wouldn't go out of my way to esnsure a product I buy is organic; I take the view that if it was harmful, it wouldn't be on sale!

It keeps me alive and its going to kill me eventually...much like Oxygen provides free radicals, which is kinda ironic, given that the very thing needed to keep you alive is the very thing that makes sure you die eventually.

When I was staying with a friend in NY a couple of months ago, we ordered Chinese, and when the doorman called to announce the deliveryman, he said, "Did you order cat?"

I really don't worry about what's IN my food as much as I wonder how old it is/if its been properly brought up to temp.

I've had some nasty food poisionings and I don't want to repeat that.

Who else would deep fry beef, or ruin perfectly good seafood by imersing it in boiling oil?

Or fry vegetables (okra at least,) defeating the entire purpose of eating them.
I really don't worry about what I eat although I know that a)it'll eventually catch up with me and b)I should worry as I know for example, I eat foods high on sodium but so far there has been no side effects that I know of. Only when I start getting ill over what I eat I'll revise my diet, until then, it's a glass of bacon grease for breakfast!  Wink

I do my own cooking at home - I'm very conscious of what I buy thats going to go in what I cook. Fresh herbs, spices, produce, check the expiration dates on everything in the store, good quality oils, fresh seafood (nothing beats New Sagaya in Anchorage for that!), decent cuts of meat (Harris Ranch Beef - again, New Sagawya www.newsagaya.com ) . . .. most everything -save fish and meat - is purchased at the US Military Commissary on Elmendorf AFB . . . about 40% savings over 'civilian' groceries.

When I'm working, I'm pleasantly surprised to see plenty of fresh vegetables. Fresh fruits as well. Everything is standard Sysco and FSA crap . . .

Ditto ditto.

I do worry about 'E' number and other additives. Not too bothered about organic, other than eggs/chicken which have to be free range.

For anyone with a 'mac', and who cares about what they eat, there's a widget you can download which identifies every 'E' number and tells you exactly what they are and whether or not they're harmful.

I have been concerned about the cleanliness of food and its preparation method on quite a few occasions. I am on my highest alert when in other countries. Even ice that is not made from bottled water can give one ameobic dysentery if the tap water is not properly purified. In Haiti and Honduras, I have been concerned about a few dishes. If I end up in a resteraunt that I am not familiar with, and it looks kind of suspicious, then I usually won't get any red meat or fish that is not fried to the death! (just one of my quirks) I especially inspect the food at Oriental resteraunts, becuase around here some do not have very good standards.
