If the quality, economy, safety and most of all fun to drive factor is there and they can prove it, sure it has at least a 50% chance. Style wise, its getting there for Russian autos and has a bit more curves than what's out today amongst the major auto players.

At least they didn't follow the bandwagon with these ridiculous styles, especially the Ion with that inward slanting rear vent window. It looks hot on the Altima but, overdone and stupid on the imitators!

I have to agree with Piercey. It looks like a Subaru crossed with a Lincoln (this is not a good thing). I guess if it's cheap enough though, somebody will buy it.... how much does it cost?

It looks a hell of a lot better than the crap that Ford is putting out.

Not to mention that this car will be considerably CHEAPER , at only $6,000 !!!

It'll never pass American safety standards. The test car sustained some minor damage while parallel parking.

I don´t think there´s enough dealer backup to sell it outside Russia, sad but true.

The car itself may be ok, but where would one get parts for it?

That looks so much like one of the iterations of the Pontiac Grand Am, like early to mid 80's or so.

Actually I think it looks more like an AMC Eagle Sedan mated with a Daewoo Leganza.... and the bastard offspring is pretty hideous.

With it being Russian, I Imagine it is solid. It's ugly as hell but hey... everyone to their own.

Stylish? I certainly think not. It looks like a cross between one of those non-descript American old people's cars and a Rover 400. And do they really think they will sell any with that muppet standing next to it? Nice clothes.

This car is the offspring of these two:

And

Which is said b/c the Daewoo is actually rather attractive. The only downside side to it is that it was built by Daewoo. And the Eagle is rather cool and was an innovative car... just a decade or so too soon.

I happen to like it. I wouldn't buy it but at least it does look different and I think it is very stylish. I am glad to see and automaker use the verticle chrome grille styling, horizontal beltline, swoop forward of the C-pillar and formal styling. I am sick of every car make trying to look 'sporty'.

I give it a thumbsup!

I think the front lights look pretty similar to the outgoing Merc S Class....eek

 rotfl   confused
Daewoo attractive? Those cars are utterly hideous.

The only cars that will increase in value if driven into....

Whatever happens with this car, it is going to be the Kia/Daewoo of the next few years. Awful cars, awful styling, awful depreciation, no image.

This is the thing I don't understand about these third rate vehincles...Why buy them when you can buy a second hand Honda/Audi/VW/anything and live with a much better car that doesn't lose money hand over fist. Still baffles me.

The nmost annoying thing about the ION is the central instrument panel. Anyone know the idea behind that?

My spin is the designers (Saturn) are cyclops and suffer from motor skills impairment. On a serious note, the concept of a center dash layout is so this FUGLY bucket of bolts can be sold/driven on lefty roads and righty thouroughfares. Meaning someone seriously impaired at Saturn thinks this turd with tires!  vomit

The American car buying public would beg to differ.

Take a look at any direction North American cars be it domestic, Asian, or European are heading. This interior and exterior have 1992 written in every aspect. It's woefully designed for the price and size niche. Contemporary, it is not.

I have no clue. Nissan used it in the Quest minivan and Toyota in the ECHO compact. I hate it, and consumer/auto testing groups have not found any improvement in situational awareness due to the (IMO) misplaced gauges.

Perhaps trying to keep production cost down for North American and European models? Is the ION even marketed abroad?

Looking at the specs. I don't think this is the case.

- Poor gas mileage, small fuel tank: effective highway cruise endurance of barely 300 miles?

- RWD family sedan equals dumb. Only car snobs and sports car drivers demand the performance of RWD. In an economy sedan, RWD increases weight, decreases fuel economy, reduces rear-seat room, and reduces trunk volume.

- I'm actually amazed, however, that the house-designed inline four performance isn't too far behind contemporary Honda/Toyota engines. That being said, the optional engine is Toyota.
