'GLASGOW has been named as one of the world's top holiday destinations by a major tourist guidebook.

The prestigious Frommer's guide, published worldwide and regarded as the traveller's bible, put the Scottish city in its top 10 list of "interesting, affordable destinations".........'

Based on "interesting, affordable destinations".

Undoubtedly so. So is Baghdad.

And for a bloody good reason. It';s absolutely typical that some fool has gone and told everyone.

Frommer's isn't that good - in fact I, as a regular traveller, have never been inclined to use it. If you're after a world leader, you really must concentrate on Lonely Planet and then Rough Guides.

Anyway, needless to say you omitted to say that Glasgow is in the top 10 places for chavs to holiday.

Well i guess now I've had the Yellow Fever, Typhoid and Dpitheria Injections and have the Malaria tablets I might be able to see some of the more poorer parts of the place, where native Glaswegians can still be seen living traditional, simple lives

There is a difference. With the Scots it's just uncontrolled violence - hence the need for English officers to point them in the right direction, i.e. away from us.

I had been to Glasgow a few times many years ago. Last year, we decided to revisit, having heard a lot of good things about how it has become such a great place to visit.
Hmmmm, well, parts had been cleaned up, and some had lost a lot of character in the process. Scotland has a lot of sensational places, beautiful, historical and quite breathtaking. But I dont think central Glasgow would be in my top 10 of them.
Cheers
Bill

Remember years ago, on the back of the 'Glasgow Is Miles Better' campaign, when the city was awarded 'City Of Culture' for a year? (As Liverpool will be).

Private Eye ran a single frame cartoon, a suited type saying "Is this a dagger I see before me" as he was confronted by a 'chib' wielding 'Ned'.
