Chinese/Japanese Translation Help!

Fri Jan 13, 2006 8:46 am

Hi guys

After the post the other day with the duvet, I was wondering if any chinese/japanese speakers could translate my rug!

We are often asked what it means and would love to say something knowledgable in response other than "it just looks nice"!  Smile

Here's the side:

And the end:

Hope someone can help!  Smile

Thanks,
Noel

Take the picture down to your local take away, (just a thought) I'm sure they'll be able to help you and you might get some serious responses instead of random replies from this lot.

Ahhh I see! So "Ching Chang Chong" uses twice as many letters as "Chong Chang Ching"!  Smile

Japanese has it's own phonetic character systems, but also use around 2000 Chinese characters. I've been studying Japanese for 18 months now, and I know around 700 Chinese characters by now, but I don't recognise any of the ones on your rug, Noel.

Of course, the Chinese use lots and lots more than 2000 characters, and they might be stylized, but to me it doesn't look like Chinese at all. Anyone who knows more about Chinese, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Cheers
Mats

All I have to say is that you got a rug with a couple of weird streaks of lines. If it was a cheap rug. It might be made somewhere in the Middle East. It is definitly not Chinese or Japanese.
Although the weird scribbles has no meaning because it doesn't exist. I noticed the 4th scribble from the left which some how seems to look like this word written in reverse.

If written correctly like the word on picture it means air in Chinese Traditional.

This type of product targets people who have absolutely no understanding in Chinese and want to make some money by putting some weird scribbles onto a object.

The next time if anyone here wishes to buy some stuff with some words that you think looks like Chinese but are unsure about it. Take a pic of it first and start a thread like this one. Surely you would get a answer from someone like me.
