If You Were On The Titanic...

Sun Jan 15, 2006 1:17 pm

OK, after just watching the movie "Titanic" (1997), I was left thinking what I would do if I was a passenger on the actual Titanic with these circumstances:

a) I was a male
b) I had a life-jacket
c) I was a lower-class citizen
d) I was capable of surviving until the boat was completely sub-merged (ie I could hold on to a railing or something)
e) I did not have my own personal helicopter on the Titanic helipad which I could pilot myself!
f) I did not have my C172 on the Titanic runway!

What would I do? I'd put on a wig of some sort and steal one of the ladies dresses so I could qualify as a woman and hop right on one of them life-boats! Cruel, but under those circumstances, it only seems appropriate!

Your plan?

Cheers,

I've always wondered, given the time that they had, why some of them didn't build a raft out of some of the furniture.

Maybe I've been watching too much MythBusters.

I would try my damndest to get on one of those lifeboats.

Being a 20 year old male that would make me pretty low on the "save their ass" list.

If I were on the Titanic ... I probably would join a group of men and help each other, doing what I needed to do and doing what others need. Very tough situation. Hard to imagine if I were on the Titanic.

You obviously are ignorant to the great deal of credit was given to those musicians led by Wallace Hartley (and still to this day) who were still playing right up until about 2:18 a.m.

Their presence on the Titanic's playing was credited by almost every survivor's account, and subsequently the U.S. Inquiry, and the UK Inquiry, as having kept all the passengers on board "calm and reserved." Had they had not been playing, it is feared that a massive panic would have ensued and the disaster would have had far less survivors.

What I would do on the Titanic if...

Quoting Boeingfanyyz (Thread starter):
a) I was a male

Use my butch muscles and beat the living shait out of the navigator who didn't see the iceberg.

Quoting Boeingfanyyz (Thread starter):
b) I had a life-jacket

Put on a large coat and claim I was big boned if anyone asked. (Or trade it for a seat in the lifeboat with the blondest woman on the boat.)

Quoting Boeingfanyyz (Thread starter):
c) I was a lower-class citizen

Start a riot to go down in style.

Quoting Boeingfanyyz (Thread starter):
d) I was capable of surviving until the boat was completely sub-merged (ie I could hold on to a railing or something)

Wonder why the hell I didn't try the above.

Quoting Boeingfanyyz (Thread starter):
e) I did not have my own personal helicopter on the Titanic helipad which I could pilot myself!

Now you're being silly.

Quoting Boeingfanyyz (Thread starter):
f) I did not have my C172 on the Titanic runway!

Which Titanic movie did you see?

I am not providing any breaking news on Boeing or Airbus, I'm not asking flight simulator questions, but I am just bringing aviation into this forum, one way or another. Everyone comes to this site for aviation...and so they shall get aviation.

Oops, I forgot two more exceptions!:

f) You did not know that the Titanic was going to go for a little swim

AND

g) You did not use your time-machine to reach 1997 and watch the movie "Titanic", therefore allowing you to know that the Titanic was indeed destined to sink!
