Oh Dear, Looks Like More Of The Same

Tue Jan 17, 2006 11:25 am

Is Karl Rove now working for the other Bush brother and his Party?

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/loc...722.story?coll=sfla-home-headlines

Quote:
The Republican Party of Florida gave $150,000 to the group that wants to put a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage on the November ballot, new campaign finance records show.

The party's donation -- more than three-quarters of the total that the group sponsoring the amendment, Florida4marriage.org, has raised so far -- comes as supporters are struggling to meet a state-imposed deadline for gathering signatures.

snipped...

Having a proposal to ban same-sex marriage on the ballot could help the Republican Party by rallying religious conservatives to the polls in a year when Floridians will elect Gov. Jeb Bush's successor.
Lead me not into temptation, I can find my own way there...

I thought Rove was more about method, not so much about ideology...?

WhiteHatter - Can I ask why you care? This brings up a big "SO WHAT" for me...Why would someone in the UK or Germany like Klaus care about this at all?

No offense intended, I just find it curious...It seems to me that it would be a rare thing for an American to criticize a state or county political issue in the UK or Germany....

I can only encourage you to take an interest in other countries' affairs. I always found it rather odd that most americans are completely disinterested in foreign affairs and are subsequently much more prone to surprises and misinterpretations regarding other countries and their governments...

No country is really isolated any more. Even North Korea is having a hard time trying that!

Mr Rove, dedicated in recent years to smearing Vietnam vets, yet this fat fuck, born 1950, somehow managed NOT to get drafted.
Funny that, and a pattern with many of this administration, making their 'we are a war administration' swagger laughable.
Moral AND physical cowards.

I wish the Republicans would get their act together and deal with more pressing issues, like defense and the coming technological gap. I feel that we are not spending enough federal money on addressing either.

Leave the marriage thing to the states and the courts.

Actually, it has been answered on here - quite a few times. I'll answer it yet again:

When you're the most influential country in the world, people are going to take an interest in what's going, even if they don't live there. Simple as that.

And there have been several instances of people from the US criticizing German policy on here. The release of a terrorist from prison springs to mind, and I know there were a few others. Why should Americans care? It wasn't the decision of the US government to release him, and he's certainly not going to be getting into the US anytime soon.

The reality is that national borders are nowhere near as solid as they used to be. Things are becoming increasingly interconnected, very few things remain solely domestic issues, and that's why it's perfectly logical for people in one country to take an interest in what's going on in another one.

When, within the space of just half a day, you can be in the U.S., Britain, and Germany, you sort of realize that national borders should take into account the fact that human beings are human beings, and needs and wants are needs and wants.

You can also be in the U.S., Mexico, and anywhere in South America within the course of a single day. And you are prone to realize that most people in every region of the world want and need pretty much the same thing.

I suppose it's only natural that people will take an interest in American affairs, even if they don't live in America. After all, it used to be said: If America sneezes, Europe catches a cold. And, perhaps, vice versa.
What's fair is fair.

Why are you so dishonest that you have to avoid the hard questions?

Why do you have to employ Rove-like tactics to switch to attack mode?

How dare you call yourself "the land of the free" when your majority party actively seeks to suppress the rights of its minorities in order to retain power?

shame you are another blinkered type who just can't understand that the more you behave like rednecks, the less the rest of the world will take you seriously or respect you. Spreading hate to win elections just shows that some elements in US Government and Republican circles are no better than that fool in Iran.

Oh and don't bother with the "why do you hate America" whiny crap. We've heard it all before and it's as stale as the kind of scummy politics the Republicans are trying in Florida.

I missed the draft by just a few years but know a lot of people that were of age during Vietnam that never got drafted. It wasn't like WW2 where they were taking them wholesale. Everyone of age got a number but when the lottery was held they didn't dig that deep. There were any number of ways to get a deferment, not just educational. I served, but I don't hold it against anyone who hasn't served and just because someone hasn't served doesn't automatically discount them from being CiC. If it did, then we'd be a long time waiting for a female President since it is only in recent years they have been allowed on the front lines.

Yes, you mostly appear to be. You could have noticed that europeans (and people from most other regions of the world) will usually be eager to discuss their own issues with you and will practically never feel insulted that you took an interest.

For most countries it's perfectly natural to look at affairs beyond their borders, not just when they've got troops over there.

Quoting Pbottenb (Reply 5):
you just dont like the way we handle things...

We don't like how your current government is acting, yes. And the threat of a repetition of its biggest screwups seems plausible when many of its political supporters can't seem to see any problem with their actions in the past.

Quoting Pbottenb (Reply 5):

A very narrow spotlight on a country in crisis, still further narrowed down to your own troops over there will not broaden your horizon all that much.

Or beyond the simple comprehension of some, hey Clipper, your numerous posts show you are appear to be living in fear of some terrorist bogeyman.
Us 'foreigners' generally speaking are not, so we don't propose stooping to the terrorists level.

It's a bit like adolescent male boasting about the size of a certain part of the body, or performance between the sheets.
Those who boast loudly about this are usually the ones lacking in both departments, I see all this in the macho posturing about how great the US is and everyone else just don't count, those who are secure in themselves don't need to indulge in this.

Gilligan, I see your point.
However, Rove was always a right wing Republican, even as a boy, presumably very supportive of the Vietnam War, maybe like a young Bush, certainly like a younger Cheney, a younger Perle, and so on.
Hence their moral and physical cowardice, many of those unfortunate draftees had little or no opinion on it.

Oh, hardly deaf. More like overly sensitive and easily hurt.

America's the most powerful and influential country there is. Its politics, culture, actions, etc. still have an significant effect the world over, so it's natural that non-US users take an interest in Americana affairs.

Certain US users have to realize that criticism of the US is not a sign of hatred towards the US. It's also not a claim by those "foreign users" that their own country is above criticism.
