"This City Will Be Chocolate Again"

Tue Jan 17, 2006 12:51 pm

ANCFlyer you will love this!

Our man Ray Nagin does it again! He promised that New Orleans will be a "chocolate" city again as many of the city's black neighborhoods were heavily damaged by Katrina.

A "chocolate" city? WTF????

Then there is this gem.

Mayor Nagin suggested that Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and other storms were a sign that "God is mad at America".

"Surely God is mad at America. He sent us hurricane after hurricane after hurricane, and it's destroyed and put stress on this country."

Boy oh boy! First it's Walter Cronkite now the Big Easy Idiot. Hey Ray, maybe it's God that's mad at idiots! YOU!

Is it a full moon or what????

Take a deep breath all you intelligent people. This too will pass.

(Clipper takes a deep breath)

I used to support Nagin until this day... no more.

What a LUNATIC statement!

...just IMAGINE the outrage if David Duke had stood up there saying "Thank God it's now a White City"?!

How is this any different???

A similar lament is often heard here in the DC metro area. Every so often the Post will run a story about the increase of the white population in the District, and the usual suspects will moan about how DC's status as "chocolate city" is in danger, and what can be done to stop the inflow of whites. And not ONE person will comment about how racist these comments are.

Don't you just love the double standard we live with. When a city goes from majority white to majority black that is progress and diversity, but when a majority black city starts trending back to white, it's a tragedy that needs to be stopped.

Back when Nagin was running for mayor against Police Chief Richard Pennington, I remember thinking what a breath of fresh air he would bring to the city of New Orleans. Not being a resident of New Orleans, I was not able to vote in the election, but because Nagin sounded like a man on a mission to change the status quo of corruption and neglect in the city during the current administration (Marc Morial) and previous ones (Barthelemy, Landrieu, etc), I supported him. Today he's lost what little respect I had left for him.

His actions, and more so, his words, however, have spoken volumes, especially since Katrina. He went over the top with his remarks today. And to make them in the midst of an MLK parade makes them that much worse. MLK would never have stood for those remarks.

As far as the "God is mad", etc, etc comments..........he's obviously spending too much time trying to imitate Pat Robertson.

Makes me want to write an article for the paper talking about how we need to do more to stop the inflow of blacks. That article wouldn't be on the newstand 5 minutes before there was everything short of a race riot being led by Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton on the steps of the newspaper building.

I wonder who will be first to take a quote from that out of context?

Racism is a two way street, and the people first to cry racism are usually the ones who think the white man is keeping them down. I don't care who lives in my city as long as they pay taxes, don't make a lot of noise, and don't break the laws.

What happens when whites return to an area, the housing market values rise as usually a lot of renovation is being done and the area becomes "trendy", as in $$$$$. The blacks don't like this because it prices them out of the market. Look at Midtown in Houston, great example.

Duke or Mayor Nagin? Mayor Nagin did buy a house in Dallas and relocated his family in the immediate aftermath of Katrina so they could have some measure of stability. He has been living down here, however.

Mayor Nagin should be ashamed of himself, what is he trying to say, "White People are not welcome?" On of all days, Martin Luther King!

Mayor Nagain, perhaps you should listen to the I have a dream speech, Martin Luther King was hoping one his day, that black & white kids can go to school together....

"Chocolate City" by Parliment

P TOP - P B... - Parliment Lyrics - Chocolate City Lyrics

Chocolate City"
Uh, what's happening CC?
They still call it the White House
But that's a temporary condition, too.
Can you dig it, CC?

To each his reach
And if I don't cop, it ain't mine to have
But I'll be reachin' for ya
'Cause I love ya, CC.
Right on.

There's a lot of chocolate cities, around
We've got Newark, we've got Gary
Somebody told me we got L.A.
And we're working on Atlanta
But you're the capital, CC

Gainin' on ya!
Get down
Gainin' on ya!
Movin' in and on ya
Gainin' on ya!
Can't you feel my breath, heh
Gainin' on ya!
All up around your neck, heh heh

Hey, CC!
They say your jivin' game, it can't be changed
But on the positive side,
You're my piece of the rock
And I love you, CC.
Can you dig it?

Hey, uh, we didn't get our forty acres and a mule
But we did get you, CC, heh, yeah
Gainin' on ya
Movin' in and around ya
God bless CC and its vanilla suburbs

Gainin' on ya!
Gainin' on ya!
Gainin' on ya! (heh!)
Gainin' on ya!
Gainin' on ya!
What's happening, blood?
Gainin' on ya!
Gainin' on ya!
Gainin' on ya!

Yeah!
What's happening, black?
Brother black, blood even
Yeah-ahh, just funnin'

Gettin' down

Ah, blood to blood
Ah, players to ladies
The last percentage count was eighty
You don't need the bullet when you got the ballot
Are you up for the downstroke, CC?
Chocolate city
Are you with me out there?

And when they come to march on ya
Tell 'em to make sure they got their James Brown pass
And don't be surprised if Ali is in the White House
Reverend Ike, Secretary of the Treasure
Richard Pryor, Minister of Education
Stevie Wonder, Secretary of FINE arts
And Miss Aretha Franklin, the First Lady
Are you out there, CC?
A chocolate city is no dream
It's my piece of the rock and I dig you, CC
God bless Chocolate City and its (gainin' on ya!) vanilla suburbs
Can y'all get to that?
Gainin' on ya!
Gainin' on ya!
Easin' in
Gainin' on ya!
In yo' stuff
Gainin' on ya!
Huh, can't get enough
Gainin' on ya!
Gainin' on ya!
Be mo' funk, be mo' funk
Gainin' on ya!
Can we funk you too
Gainin' on ya!
Right on, chocolate city!

Yeah, get deep
Real deep
Heh
Be mo' funk
Mmmph, heh
Get deep
Bad
Unh, heh

From someone who lives in New Orleans, yes, it is completely safe. As dangerous as people claimed it was before the hurricane, I never had a problem getting around or worried about crime. It was like any other large city. Now the city proper is pretty medium sized and perfectly safe. It is like anywhere else, use common sense and you will be absolutely fine.

Yes . . .

I watched this moron Mayor  hissyfit  on the news last night - and I was firstly amused at the ignorance of his entire speech and irritated at the publicly racial remarks and absurdity of his entire speech.

I don't expect anything better from him . . . he's an idiot.

He reminded me of Rev. Al Sharpton in many ways . . . "God is mad at America for an unjustified attack on Iraq". What an idiot!

And the news mentioned that when asked what Mayor  hissyfit  meant by a "Chocolate City" Nagin replied - paraphrasing here as I don't recall exactly - something like 'a chocolate city is a drink made of dark chocolate and white milk stirred together', just like New Orleans, everyone working together . . . and in the same speech says New Orleans will be an "African American City just like God wants!"

WTF??? I'm amazed - really.

Let some White mayor in some city say that and he/she'd be run out of town for being racist so fast they'd leave skid marks. It's okay for  hissyfit  to say these obviously overtly racist remarks . . . . and no one in NOLA thinks it bizarre???

Now, does anyone - really - believe that ten cent bullshit???

hissyfit  needs to go so the city can get someone worth two cents to get an honest rebuilding program - for everyone - in place. He's an embarrasment to a great city, one I have enjoyed visiting many times . . . his malfeasance in office, derelection of duty, and other massive shortcomings have done nothing for NOLA.

Well if what's being stated is true, isn't that interesting as anything?

A black mayor claims that the city will be "chocolate" again after a major disaster, yet also says that God is mad at America and the N.O. ass-kicking was part of God's anger... well...

Based on extrapolations of what this piece of shit "leader" said, God apparently hates black people.

(and for those of you that 'boo-hiss' at my comment and go all crazy on your keyboards calling me "racist", you don't know anything about me or my background, so please hold your tongue for a minute)

This guy is a freaking idiot. The faster the people of New Orleans can get rid of him (I might include the Guv'ner as well), the better for the city, and the people of Louisiana.

Personal message to Ray: Get Bent.

Given that both the 9th Ward and St. Bernard Parish will probably have to be razed completely and rebuilt from the ground up, he can forget about New Orleans being "chocolate" (what a poor choice of words!) again. The rebuilt 9th Ward and St. Bernard Parishes will sport all-new housing that will likely cater to a higher-income buyer, and that will likely change the ethnic and racial mix of the city drastically over time.

Anything or place that tourists/businesspeople would care about in New Orleans has been largely unaffected.

The de-chocolatization of NOLA will probably result in the democrats loosing one seat in the US Senate. I was looking at county by county electoral results from 2002 and without NOLA, it seems to me that Mary would have lost pretty easily.

Although I don't completely disagree with your link, one should always start at the bottom of the ladder and work their way up. They're the ones "closest" to the people that actually count (i.e. the general population living some of this crap).

and no one in NOLA thinks it bizarre???

Are you kidding me... just about everyone, who's not looking for a government hand-to-me in SE Louisiana, gave a collective "Whoa WTF?!" to his comments.

Including me.....see reply #4 above.

Quoting N1120A (Reply 11):
Mayor Nagin did buy a house in Dallas and relocated his family in the immediate aftermath of Katrina so they could have some measure of stability. He has been living down here, however.

I remember hearing recently that his wife and kids are back. Seems to me the kids school reopened.

Quoting Molykote (Reply 37):
Does that constitute a majority?

If you consider C-Boy, MSYTristar, N1120A, and myself a majority.....then , yes  wink . That said, neither C-boy, MSYTristar, nor myself are eligible to vote for N.O.'s mayor. Not sure about N1120A.

In related news, spurred by the remarks of NOLA's mayor, Senator Byrd issued a statement today looking forward to the day that West Virginia will once again be white as snow.

Can you imagine what the fall out would be?

Impeachment hearings would be scheduled, no doubt.

Hey Clipper, do you have any links to these quotes in some sort of press?

Not that I'm questioning that he said them, I'd just rather read some AP release or something quoting this idiot before I get all bent out of shape.

Storms Payback From God, Nagin Says
Mayor Faults War, Blacks' Infighting

By Brett Martel
Associated Press
Tuesday, January 17, 2006; Page A04

NEW ORLEANS, Jan. 16 -- Mayor C. Ray Nagin suggested Monday that hurricanes Katrina and Rita and other storms were a sign that "God is mad at America" -- and at black communities, too, for tearing themselves apart with violence and political infighting.

"Surely God is mad at America. He sent us hurricane after hurricane after hurricane, and it's destroyed and put stress on this country," Nagin said as he and other city leaders marked Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

What a gross exaggeration you make. As a DC resident, virtually everyone I know (black, white, brown and then some) is thrilled that DC is attracting a more racially diverse population after years of white flight followed by decades of middle class black flight. While I've read about the usual suspects (usually some embittered DC Council paleolothic hag or some loser ANC (advisory neighborhood commission) "activist") moan about how "chocolate city" will be no more, I've never once seen anyone state whan can be done to "stop the inflow of whites." If anything, the Mayor and his minions have done their best to attract middle class whites back into the city (of course, given the real estate prices, their definition of middle class may be a bit skewed). Incidentally, those usual suspects are usually more vociferous against immigrant groups such as Ethiopians who have transformed previously blighted parts of the city into neighborhoods one would want to visit.

Once again "Schoolbus" Nagin proves to the country
that he's nothing more than the village idiot. His
remarks bring to mind Jesse Jackson referring to NYC
as "Hymie Town" or the Rev Sharpton complaining
about "white interlopers" investing in Harlem.
Besides Nagin, Sen. Clinton in a speech in Harlem
gave a speech about the Republicans being like
plantation owners. It's a shame Schoolbus and Hilary
had to use MLK's holiday for their racially insensitive
remarks.

And not only that, apparently this guy can channel the dead:

"Nagin described an imaginary conversation with King, the late civil rights leader."

You mean that we really elect these assholes to be our "leaders"?

(this all coming from a Cincinnati native whose city once held that Jerry Springer turd in high esteem as a mayor -- thank any Diety of your choosing that I wasn't old enough to vote for that nonsense)

Uhhh. Don't selectively quote from Michelle Malkins' trashola website.

This is what Hillary said:

"the House of Representatives “has been run like a plantation…It has been run in a way so that nobody with a contrary view has had a chance to present legislation, to make an argument, to be heard.”

Now interestingly enough, Hillary can be accused of plagiarism. For the mighty HRC quoted that GOP stalward Newt Gingrich who, upon taking over the Democratic Congress back in 1994 stated this:

"Since they think it is their job to run the plantation, it shocks them that I’m actually willing to lead the slave rebellion.”

Washington Post, Oct. 20, 1994.

The plantation analogy has been used for years. That old bag, HRC should have been more imaginative. I say that Congress under Delay has been run like a ponzi scheme whore house with Delay as chief Pimp and the rest of his mindless followers as his 'hos.
