Where's Winter Gone?

Wed Jan 18, 2006 10:08 pm

It's 13 degrees outside, with 14 forecast for tomorrow. Normally the max for this time of year is 9. Some of the flowers in the garden are still in bloom. If this is global warming, bring it on!

Anyone else getting the same mild weather?

Here in Toronto it's been the mildest winter so far in record..
in my 30+ years, I've never remembered a winter like this.

Personally, LOVE IT!!! Global Warming ROCKS!!! (tongue in cheek, of course)

Well, the IOM is usually marginally warmer than the UK anyway, but this year seems milder than usual.

Suits me, I hate the cold. Although crisp, frosty days make for some damn nice pictures! Big grin

Same here. You can help us drive in ice-covered streets (it has been snowing/ice-raining all day). We had -14°C two nights ago. Definitely no global warming in this part of Germany.

My thoughts exactly!

Its only mid-January and it's already up to 32 degrees in the day. And only around 22 at night.

What the hell heppened to winter?

My thoughts too... In Kenosha, it is only 23°... Not a lick of snow on the ground.. For a while, it was snowing like crazy, but lately we've been getting RAIN!

No kidding it was in the mid 40s here in Rochester and on Friday it almost 60! We need it to be cold because several crops need the prolonged freeze we should get every winter.

Winter is alive and kicking here. At the moment: -6 oC and heavy snow. I do not see winter going anywhere for a while.

So far I think we had a week of weather that was -6C and that was dec.2-9th. since then we've had 2 days of snow, dropping about 3 inches total and the rest has been pretty much 5C or warmer. Feeling more and more like spring everyday..Knock on wood.

Here in Vancouver it has been very mild as well. We came so close to breaking the 50 year old record for the most consecutive days of rain. We had 27 days, and the record was 28. That being said, it will still probably be the wettest January on record. The mountains are finally starting to get some snow again, but it's nothing but rain down here.

No global warming in Moscow. It was -37 C. during the night, and it's -30 C. right now at noon!

For everybody looking for winter, you all can come visit Fairbanks. It's currently -21F/-30C (at midnight) and a most disturbing thought just occurred to me. "Hmmmm...not too bad."

We've been having highs around -30F/-35C for the last couple days. It looks like tomorrow we're supposed to get below -40 (Fahrenheit or Celsius, take your pick) and there doesn't appear to be any relief in sight. And I still will walk nearly a mile to work in the morning.  cold

Thanks to the unusually abnormal lack of snow here, Continental decided to snub Durango's subsidy for 2 daily E45's to IAH. If it were like last year, CO would probably be jumping on it like hotcakes (record year last year).

Over here it was -17 deg. C on Monday morning, with loads of snowfall in the past two days. Nothing like "mild" winter.

Syracuse has received 65.7 inches this year, which is pretty much were we should be right about now. However, with this warmup in the forecast now much more snow is in immediate sight. It really has been a crazy winter! And how about that windstorm yesterday for those of you on the east coast of the US?

Looks like winter has migrated to Russia. I heard on the news that over 30 people have died in the last three days in temperatures of -30 degrees, and it's -60 in Siberia.

Tough luck, Russia!

This morning was one of the coldest mornings in Atlanta this month. It was 32F when I left the house this morning. It's supposed to get into the upper 50s-lower 60s today. We're having the type of weather we're supposed to be having in March. It seems as though our winter was in December, including the winter weather.

These are the predictions for Europe in four hours from now:

http://www.dmi.dk/dmi/index/danmark/vejrkort/eurisoterm1.htm

(Celcius degrees).

It doesn't show the low temperatures in Russia. We don't have the scale for that.

The cold will move west over the weekend, and then east again next week.

Here in Chicago, it's 52 deg F. Global warming OK? Nah, not for me. Although the lack of nasty crappy snow on the ground is a relief (esp. on the dry cleaning bill), I miss the snow. My dog esp. misses the snow!

It's also been quite dry lately. I worry about the soil content for this summer's crops.

Time to walk the dog now!

We had a cold front push through Dallas about a week and a half ago that dropped the high temp to 75*F. It finally feels like fall here  Smile Currently it is 72*F, 22.2*C. We've been up at 83*F/28.3*C, and have not been below 35*F/1.7*C. And no rain, of course.

This "winter" has been unusually warm and dry. We have received less than an inch of rain total since the start of November and, aside from a one week period in December, has not felt like winter at all.

Winter is alive and well here in Alaska. Its -30f outside at the moment. Wind-chill makes it feel like -40f. Thank god the wind isn’t blowing too hard or it could easily feel like -60f.....

The bad news is it looks like the wind is going to start blowing from the north starting tonight; it’s going to be really cold the next few days.  Sad

Cheers,
Adam
