Well here in the U.S. the Dish satellite Network has a plethora of Indian channels with Hindi, Tamil, etc. Now recently, Directv has gotten into the act but their offerings so far do not match Dish.

I am astounded as to the degree the Indian satellite channels are causing Indian-Americans to become glued to their TV sets. My brother and his wife now watch 2 hours of it in the evening, and almost nothing else.

I am going to buy Dish just for the occasional visit from my mother, as she DEMANDS the Tamil channels!!

Here you can subscribe to additional channels on our satellite service, Indian, German, Portuguese and other. One of the free to air channels also broadcasts programming for Indian viewers a couple of days a week. I must admit, they always seem to have the most incredible looking women!

There are a few... You have to subscribe to them separately.

We do get one German channel though: DWTV. Deutsche Welle, I think it's called.

But the best by far is the Burmese channel. It has only news on all the time. And I don't understand a word. But it's hilarious!  Smile

None on cable. Sorry to disappoint. Only the very occasional Bollywood film crosses our screens.

Many Indian/Asian channels are available in the UK via the Sky satellite service. Most of the better ones (Zee Movies, for example) are only available on subscription though. Some of the music channels are free.

If you have Sky Digital with a fairly comprehensive package then there are quite a few to choose from. Star Plus is on in our house whenever our 3 year old daughter isn't watching Nick Junior or some other pre-school channel, we also get Star News, b4u, RajTV, MATV (which used to be called SAB TV and is pretty awful compared with Star) and numerous other Asian channels and there are subscription channels as well (mainly for recent movies). In Manchester you can see recent movie releases at cinemas, which I quite enjoy as long as there are subtitles of course!

No but My parents watch ARY, GEO and PTV all day long on the weekends
and when they are at home. Then they want to know why I don't
spend that much time with them when I visit.

There are plenty of Indian channels available on Dish Net. I don't know of many free Indian channels here unfortunately.

Most of the free Intl channels here in the US seem to be Arabic (Abu Dhabi TV, Qatar TV, Saudi TV1, Jordan TV, Al Iraqiyah, etc..) and Iranian (IRIB, IRINN, Alalam News, etc).
