It's My Birthday BUT..... :-(

Fri Jan 20, 2006 7:40 pm

I became 20 years old today... but I am sad. Because I also have a funeral today of a friend of mine who died of an aggressive brain tumor. Only 19 years old  Sad.

Anyone had this before? A funeral on your birthday or someone who died on your birthday??

I don't know if it counts.
I only celebrated my Birthday when I was 5.None before & none after till date.
My Birthday was on the same day as my Mom & Dads Wedding Aniversary. After my Dad died I did not wasnt to remind my Mom of it.So I treat every day the same.

I'm sorry to hear that, I know how you feel.

Last year, after a mont in a coma, my mother passed away.

Her funeral was 1 day after my 30th Birthday.

Didn't feel like celebrating.  Sad

i know all this will sound harsh, but surely the people who died, whether friend, family or stranger, would feel bad if you put your celebration on hold because of their death?

I know if anything happened to me I would want my friends, family and aquainences to enjoy their own lives and not worry about how I might have felt. Sure it's sad and upsetting, but life must go on. Remember them with fondness and maybe a little sadness, but never hold your life back because of their misfortune.

Mel, your Dad surely wouldn't want you to mourn for him for the rest of your mum's life would he? You have to remember him, but not the sad things. Remember the happy things and use your birthday to celebrate not only your birth but your dad and everything nice you remember about him.

And the same for you FJWH, remember your friends life and the fun times. You'll never forget him/her now.

Hope this sort of makes sense at this sad time for you.

Andy Agreed what you say.But I just don't want to give my mom a thought of Unhappiness. There are other ways to celebrate & other occasions too.I do just that.  Smile

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your friend.

My paternal grandmother passed away 3 days before my 14th birthday in 1984. If I recall correctly, I believe the funeral was held the day after my birthday. Even though she had been in the hospital before her death, she had taken the time to send me a birthday card which I opened after returning home from her funeral and it brought tears to my eyes. Just thinking about it now does the same. She was such a nice lady and I miss her to this day.
