Run - It's Terrifyingly Scary!

Sat Jan 28, 2006 7:57 am

What makes a terrifyingly scary film terrifyingly scary? Not that I have actually been that scared when watching a film.

For me it has to be realistic - none of that zombie shit or anything like that. I have to be able to place myself in the same situation and imagine what it would be like - not that I can say many films have scared me - Saw was probably the most recent film to send a little shiver down my spine Big grin

Nothing really scares me, but, the film SAW really freaked me out.

Can't wait till SAW II comes out on video.  Wink

Suspense followed by the sudden 'gotcha'. Not like in Friday the 13th or similar, where you can basically predict when and where the person is going to get it, but similar to the original Alien.

Ah, yes... but in the original Friday the 13th there is a shower scene that is pretty startling. If I recall it correctly, this girl is in a dressing room with lots of showers and she's opening the curtains of every shower one by one. And when she's at the last one, there is a short pause, and suddenly she opens the curtains, and there's... nothing... phew! No danger there. And she turns around and receives an axe in her face. That made me jump high. Works only the first time you see the movie though...

I thought 'The Grudge' was particularly scary - it's the not knowing what will happen next - anyone seen Event horizon ??

Sort of like American Werewolf in London - the dream w/in a dream (or nightmare w/in a nightmare) sequence. The 2nd attack about sent me through the roof.

Anything really suspenceful gets me on edge... I saw The Excorcist and nearly laughed the whole way through... Maybe that just shows how twisted I am...

Although, I saw Harry potter and the Chamber of Secrets and found it to be quite scary in some parts (Ie, Once he's in the chamber of secrets) - I'm not sure I could handle seeing the movie Arachnaphobia (Seen My comment in the "What are you afraid of" thread?) - I like watching alot of movies and I'd especially like to see Alfred Hitchcocks movies as well as more Stanley Kubrik movies... (There's a book out here called 1001 movies to see before you die, I'd love to get that)

I've seen a movie called "Run" and it was okay. Not a terrifyingly scary movie, though.

I loved Alien, and Sigourney Weaver just rocks. Especially in Aliens.

Two movies I saw in theatres when I was younger scared the living daylights out of me... Silence of the Lambs, and Jurassic Park. Who can forget the scenes with the raptors in the bunkers followed by the raptors in the kitchen?

That's how long ago 1994 was. I remember my fourth grade teacher saying how she didn't imagine smart human-eating dinosaurs in the kitchen before she saw that movie.
