"Rolex 24 Hours Of Daytona" Questions

Sun Jan 29, 2006 6:23 am

I did a search and did not find anything, but I am sure someone has already started a thread on this so don't    me. I have been watching the race so far but I have to keep the volume down at work. Why do some drivers keep their headlights on (during the day) and others do not? Are they going to light up the track at night? What kind of speeds are they getting up to on the main track. Also, I know there are IRL drivers racing but how many NASCAR drivers are there in the field? I know Rusty Wallace, Tony Stewart and Bobby LaBonte are racing, who else from NASCAR?

What are the differences between the GT Class and the DP Class race cars?
Thanks,
David

Let's see....

With the headlights, I'd venture a guess to say that they are just on all the time. The race runs overnight (obviously) and while the main track is lit, the road course sections aren't lit as well.

DP stands for Daytona Prototype and all the cars have essentially the same body.
The GT class is basically any type of car such as Corvettes and Porsches.

That's a listing of all the teams....

As for speeds, they probably get up to around 160 or so on the straights.

BTW, if anyone wants tickets to the Hersheys 300/Daytona 500 let me know... I have 3 for each and will let them go at face value

I saw a DP car a little bit ago flashing his lights. He was coming up on a slower car. Could him flashing his flights be a signal to the slower car or maybe to his team?

Usually it means "get the hell out of the way"... So you would be right in assuming that it's when they are coming up on a slower car.

It's amazing to see how fragile these carbon fiber bodies are! A little tap and they have to replace the whole front end of the car
