Add me to the O'Sheas/Friday night meet up. Also, I'll have a cell on me as well should it be usefull.

ROger that....we will probably post a throwaway cell number or two right when the thing starts. Be on the lookout for your IMs for these numbers. They'll go out a day or two prior to the first arrivals.

Who wants to do tshirts?
seriously

What's the weather like in Vegas that time of the month? My guess is highs in the lower 70's and lows in the upper 50's?

AsstChiefMark, ANC and those who arrive on the 23rd:

I'll be getting in sometime in the early morning of 3/24 (0840 if I take DL or 0730 if I take WN; [decided against HP]), so does anyone wanna split a cab from the airport? Maybe find a place to stash the bags while we grab some grub and maybe a breakfast beer or two?

I was just thinking the same thing today. I arrive at 08:50 on the 24th. Sharing a cab is a good idea. Most hotels will let you store your bags as long as you'll be checking in later that day.

I'd chip in - I can always do with some more haute couture of the cotton short-sleeve variety

Just a suggestion...instead of doing all of this here, I suggest perhaps a Yahoo list serve?

EDIT: okay, I did it.

so, join if you want if it's easier to communicate that way.

Average high out there for Feb. 25th is 65 and the average low is 43. If it starts to rain (doesn't happen very often) it usually cools off very quickly, so I would suggest bringing sweatshirt/light jacket along for sure, and also 43 with no humidity often seems cooler than 43 and some moisture to me.

I'm really hoping I can get out there to go spotting when you guys go down there to the airport.

Let's start a spotting list for Sunday afternoon?:

I, for one, appreciate that effort at streamlining, but I don't have time to keep looking at different sites to try and keep up. May I respectfully suggest that we keep it here to make it simple for those of us not really computer savvy?

do as you all wish, i just didn't know if some people would have privacy concerns, when it comes to hotels, phone numbers, etc. etc.

Oh, man....for those that don't know Aerobalance is an expert at navigating city streets in foreign lands, and can find his way to any train station out there.....  Wink
as far as the other issue....Absolutely. Let's assume that everyone can leave from the same meetup point on Saturday morning and meet at O'Sheas at the bar. One group will head to the dam while the other goes to a spotting locale, and we'll ask some locals to help with good spotting. Nellis AFB is in Northtown and LAS is easily accessible. If anyone is staying at PAris or MGM then ask for an airport facing room...or phrase it properly so as to avoid scaring anyone.  Wink

Well put. People don't need to post their hotels if they don't wish. All anyone really has to do to participate in the meet is show up at the appointed times and places. No one really needs to post their hotels...especially if your sign. oth. doesn't know you're coming....  Wink

Missed a few things on the transition from the Part 2 to the Part 3 Thread:

7pm Friday, 3/24 at O'Sheas in the Flamingo for the first gathering.

11am Saturday at the same place for Saturday events, which will include:

Okay... I'm up for some spotting.

7pm Friday, 3/24 at O'Sheas in the Flamingo for the first gathering.

- Dinner at Eiffel Tower at 7pm
- drunken debauchery along the strip (in the immortal words of Lionel Richie).....say it with me...."all night long"

I'm in for dinner anywhere. If it's the Eiffel Tower, so be it, but is it really that much of a place to go that it's worth it? Also, is the food really that good?

It's supposed to be very good, and it's not any more expensive than any other nice place for supper.....I'd bet it won't be any more expensive than the place in NY we ate dinner that one time. It won't be as cheap as Downwind, though....

Oh, no...we'll get that sorted prior to eating. I learned the lesson that time.

There'll be agreement prior to eating on the method for calculating the bill.

Okay... I'll admit it: I'm not all that anxious to drop $100 a head on dinner, so if there's a plan B I'm probably up for that.

Yeah, yeah... I know, I'm lame. But I'm having to plunk down a bunch of cash right now for conferences in Monterey and Hawaii (and junior faculty are always the last priority for reimbursement money), so I'd best try and keep this trip reasonable.

Sorry... but I do think that those of you who want to go the Eiffel should definitely do it. We can always arrange a meeting point afterward.

i agree with you, actually. even if i come on the trip, which goes up in price every day from st. louis, it's not a matter of having the money to spend, it's a matter of having the business of spending that money.

i notice you are staying at the Stardust. you can score some excellent dinner bargains there and if luck is on your side, just go out front and you can score some free buffets or severely discounted steak dinners from the free pulls.

i've eaten at the Stardust several times when i've been there and have never had any problems. if you're up for a walk to the Riviera, head towards the north side of the complex to Pennytown and you can have a hella selection of menu items for under $1.00 from Hound Dogs.

I've sent my cell number via IM to nearly everyone . . . rather than posting it here . . . which I don't think I'd prefer. I don't need a throw away number. If something goes amiss with my number first I'll change it - then I'll find the responsible party and kill them.  bigthumbsup

i don't get it either. the simple method is round up to the nearest dollar and add 30%. you cover tax and a good sized tip. of course if the service sux then....

With you, Pep. Unfortunately, experience teaches me otherwise. I trust the quality of attendees here will eliminate the need for cane-wielding practices in this matter.

I can afford to eat @ the Eiffel Tower, I just have had trouble convincing myself to spend that kind of money on a meal. Meanwhile, I have no trouble plopping down that much at the Blackjack or Craps table (Funny isn't it.)

My own reservations about paying that much for dinner and knowing that not everyone has a huge budget for this trip is what lead me to suggest perhaps a cheaper group option.

Huh... marry a guy who's into large-format photography, and you'll be shocked at how quickly "discretionary" income starts to vanish. Playing blackjack isn't even a blip on the radar these days.
