Will Hamas Use Sharia Law In The Territories

Wed Feb 01, 2006 11:37 pm

"Since its founding in 1987, Hamas has been an explicitly Islamic organization. Its slogan then was, "The Koran is our Constitution," and as Hamas gained power in the late 1980's, both through fighting Israel and with well-organized social programs, adherence to Islam unquestionably increased.

In the first moments of victory, conflicting signals seemed to issue from Hamas members: Several were quoted as saying they would explore Islamic programs, from greater segregation of boys and girls in school to mandating head scarves, or hijabs."

Hanan Aswari said on the news that if Palestine start using Sharia laws then they will move back hundred of years, she refuses to wear hijab (head scarf), "I rather be decapitaded on the square"...

nice typical bias you show.. sarcastic ..

you conveniently didn't mention most people in the region, even some of the more religious people don't want it....

and you conveniently don't mention that the article stated Hamas isn't interested in evoking "sharia law"...

Aren't the laws of most muslim countries (with the exception of Bangladesh) based on Sharia?

It wasn't biased. The article asks the question:
There is no certain answer to the question asked apprehensively around the West Bank and Gaza since Hamas swept the parliamentary elections last week: To what extent — by law or by social pressure — will Hamas impose its strong religious beliefs?

Here is an article about a Palestinian Christian named Hosam al-Taweel who ran in the elections as a Hamas candidate:

http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exer...14-DB9A-4C8C-9C5C-D2F5795720BA.htm

Aljazeera.net: How would you describe your relationship with Hamas?

Al-Taweel: I am eager to tell the truth about this point which has produced unwanted controversy. I have discussed my electoral programme called Addressing Minds with all the Palestinian national and Islamic parties and got all of their support.

My programme isn't specifically for Christians only, but designed for all Palestinians.

What we have in common is keeping the national Palestinian struggle for rights and freedoms alive. We are fighting for the right of return of displaced Palestinian refugees and fighting corruption in Palestinian governance.

The slogan of my campaign is unity-return-justice-independence.

We are all - Christians and Muslims - united for a free Palestine. Our ancestors fought with the Muslim leader, Salah al-Din, against the crusaders.

We also share a common suffering under Israeli occupation.

Each of us has reciprocal respect towards our religious beliefs.

You forgot to add that they killed innocent people, Israelis and non-Israelis in the process too!

Hamas is a terrorist organization that should NEVER be dealt with until they renounce their stated goals against Israel and their use of terror.

Sharia (to get back to the subject) is an interetsing subject.

There are those who would consider laws based on the Ten Commandments to be ideal. Muslims consider Sharia to be something similar. Sharia is basically open to interpretation, and that's where the misunderstanding comes in.

When it is interpreted by hardliners and misused for their purposes then it looks and smells bad. But thre are many instances of moderate Islamic states who interpret Sharia more literally and don't tag on their own interpretation.

more wingnut rubbish.

If that was a valid statement, Britain would still be fighting the IRA and having bodies come home in pieces. Terrorist groups like Hamas are best de-fanged by direct challenge, and pretending they don't exist until they do what you want just prolongs the death and destruction.

More mature minds recognise that there are ways of bringing terrorist groups to peace. Your kindergarten politics just means more death.

Terrorists are bullies. You don't defeat bullies by running away from them.

How is that rubbish? If they're not terrorists what are they? UN peacekeepers?

Yes this is not news!
Hamas wants an Islamic state, based on Sharia.

The co founder said to Wolf Blitzer on CNN, that Israel serves no purpose to the Palestinian people, so why should the Palestinian people accept Israel?
What a country that accepts homosexuality? Personal freedom and freedom of speech??

And by those words he sealed in stone, who we all are dealing with.
