Life On Mars (BBC TV Programme)

Tue Feb 07, 2006 7:29 pm

Anyone else been watching this? It's rather good, and definitely unusual.

Last nights episode was the first I'd seen. I thought it was brilliant. I'm pretty narked about missing the earlier episodes now!

Have the previous episodes been as good as last nights?

Thoroughly enjoying it so far - makes a nice change from the usual police serials that keep cropping up.

We're trying to spot any errors and they've done a very good job of concealing them - UPVC windows apart last night !
Just when I thought I could see light at the end of the tunnel, it was some B*****d with a torch bringing me more work

Mars, you say. Well, it seems like a perfect place to forcefully move Pe@rson to  stirthepot  What do you say about that, Cornish?

Second series already commissioned, and a possible film!

Excellent stuff, I'll admit to thinking the opposite when the series was being mooted before broadcast, however John Simm is an actor who seems only prepared to appear in decent stuff.

I'm sure a series 1 DVD will be out soon, the BBC in recent years have made a pile on other releases, (recently, the 5 millionth DVD of 'The Office' was sold).

But Life On Mars is cracking stuff, naturally someone like me who still thinks 'The Sweeney' is still the best TV cop show ever, I would like a show that is an unashamed homage to it.

BBC Cardiff seems to be the centre of excellence for new BBC drama, look at 'Dr Who', so easy to make a mess of, but turned out a triumph.

Aside from Channel 4's 'Shameless', and BBC's positively evil political comedy 'The Thick Of It', Life On Mars is about the only programme worth watching right now.

Can you imagine ITV doing this now (30 years ago yes, The Sweeney being an example), 'Life On Mars' with Ross Kemp in the lead role?

Funny you should say that. My nightmare scenario when thinking that very thing was Robson Greene.  yuck

AAARRGHHH! Robson Greene-The Horror, The Horror!

ITV do seem to churn out feelgood, mediocre stuff, I suspect this dates back to the late 1980's, when the Broadcasting Act led to the loss of ITV centers of excellence, like Granada.

But my fav BBC drama of recent times was the savage but often darkly humorous medical drama 'Bodies', test flown on BBC4 first, then to BBC2.
