Its been my belief that the Fitzgerald investigation was to go after bigger fish, either Cheney or Rove. Libby sounds like his testimony is in an attempt to get himself off the hook, should he be telling the truth. I hope he wouldn't go ahead and lie again under oath.

I know our conservative friends are going to say "let's get more sources", and in this case, with the import of the story, I'd like to see this in the major media myself. If it's true, you can bet FOX, CNN, and the networks will all have "Breaking News" on their websites.

If true, the VP could be in deep doo doo. But it needs to be sourced more than this.

Yeah hopefully the first five indictments surrounding lying were enough  Yeah sure

Hopefully when this is all said and done, Libby and anyone else involved will spend at least as much time in prison as Judith Miller did protecting thier asses.

Wowza.

I guess the mainstream press does occassionally sit up, report some real news and show that it has some balls.

Lynn Cheney better start picking out her prison visitation dresses.

Perhaps, she, Mrs Rove, Mrs Fitzgerald, Mrs Abramoff, among others, can also share a ride in the Lincoln Towncar when they visit their hubbies for their marital duties every Sunday.

The way things are going, maybe the Democrats will take over the Senate and we can see a doubleheader Impeachment early in 2007. Between this and as more comes out about Bush and Abramhoff and the Iraq disaster, there could be.
There is little doubt in my mind that Chenny gave the green light to burn Palme and Rove encouaged it. If it can be proven as to both of them, then they are both screwed. Chenny better hope his heart finally gives out and he dies. I don't think either of them would do well in prison  sly

Media, and lefties wishful thinking.

All of you have been salivating at the thought of seeing someone marched out of the White House in hand cuffs since Jan, 2001.

As usual, this is a story citing "unnamed/anonymous" sources which will end up going no where.

Secondly, no where does anything from Fitz say Cheney or anyone else said to "leak" Plame's identity. It says that Libby was allowed to discuss certain parts of a 2002 National Intelligence Estimate. This NIE had been declassified by the summer of 2003.

You can read the NIE from the Congressional record if you would like.

http://www.fas.org/irp/congress/2003_cr/h072103.html

You will also find in most of the AP hit pieces a small mention that Libby's lawyer has denied that Cheney or anyone else ordered him to "leak" Plame's name.

Finally, the funniest thing is Libby was never indicted for "leaking" any names. He was indicted for lying to the grand jury.

Again, thank God the GOP has B757300 here to apologize for them for all their transgressions. When Cheney is impeached and in Levenworth, he'll still be apologizing for him.

Yes, thank God for B757300!!

The link you provide states clearly in the header "Declassified Excerpts from the October 2002 NIE"

There also seems to have been substantial differences between the classified NIE and the declassified excerpts: "Dedicating a section of its 511-page report to discrepancies between the two versions of the crucial October 2002 NIE, the panel laid out numerous instances in which the unclassified version omitted key dissenting opinions about Iraqi weapons capabilities, overstated U.S. knowledge about Iraq's alleged stockpiles of weapons and, in one case, inserted threatening language into the public document that was not contained in the classified version. Ever heard of Deep Throat?

In a separate thread, you characterize Valerie Plame as a "non-covert CIA desk jockey."

Plame was operating under a Non-Official Cover (NOC), which is reserved for individuals dealing with the most sensitive type of intelligence-gathering. In short, if her cover had been blown (by someone other than Bob Novak), the US government would not have intervened on her behalf.

On September 30, 2003, President Bush said, "If there is a leak out of my administration, I want to know who it is, and if the person has violated the law, the person will be taken care of."

I wonder if he will make good on that promise?

Seeing as he keeps backing out of that statement, I doubt it.

Speaking of misused intelligence, another high ranking CIA analyst spoke out today against the administration and its abuse of intelligence data.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11261915/from/RS.4/

Quote:
"Official intelligence on Iraqi weapons programs was flawed, but even with its flaws, it was not what led to the war," Pillar wrote in the upcoming issue of the journal Foreign Affairs. Instead, he asserted, the administration "went to war without requesting -- and evidently without being influenced by -- any strategic-level intelligence assessments on any aspect of Iraq."

"It has become clear that official intelligence was not relied on in making even the most significant national security decisions, that intelligence was misused publicly to justify decisions already made, that damaging ill will developed between [Bush] policymakers and intelligence officers, and that the intelligence community's own work was politicized," Pillar wrote.

I guess the mainstream press does occassionally sit up, report some real news and show that it has some balls.

For about 5 minutes they report real news. But they never follow up on it and they never demand answers. I have a list of about 50 things that I'd like someone to force the administration to answer. The media has this belief that they must constantly generate new news and that if something was first reported last week or last year we aren't interested in hearing about it further.

The media has to get back to reporting about Brad Pitt's love life and the local-crime-of-the-week (typically a white man who has killed his wife) that must be portrayed as a national media event. The 3 DUI's between Cheney and Bush that prevents them from entering Canada? Who cares. Rumsfeld profits financially off of the bird flu scare? Forget about it.

The great thing is that this Libby/Abramoff/Delay thing will unravel even further as everyone tries to cover their ass. Someone from the White House violated the law by divulging a CIA agent's name and cover - thankfully our honest president has already declared that leaks that violate the law or threaten our security must be prosecuted.

What does left or right have to do with anything? A top government official leaking sensitive information for political revenge. That transcribes party lines.
