Soccer World Cup - Your Tickets And Bets!

Fri Feb 10, 2006 4:46 am

Hey people!

Will anyone of you attend the soccer world cup in the audience (or as athlete  Wink )?

MrNiji and me successfully won the FIFA lottery for the Match Portugal-Iran (after being denied tickets in thee previous rounds). We both are very happy to watch at least one game in the Stadium (in Frankfurt, where both of us live!).. And that match will be an excellent one, one of the games where two (positively) fanatic teams will do everything to win!!!!

so how about you?

1.) Do you have tickets? Which game for? Or will you just come to Germany to give moral support to your team?

2.) Who is your favorite team?

3.) who will be the winner?

For me:

1.) as above

2.) I prefer those small African Teams.. if they won, this would be real development aid!

3.) Well, Brazil is the one I bet on.. and somehow I have "a heart" for Sven Göran Ericson and hope that the brits will do well (but they will play in Frankfurt in the first match against Paraguay), and I hope that the hooligans won't ruin our stadium Big grin

bye! tim

I am not a soccer fan but I do bet on sports occasionally and I am taking Germany to win it all...they have a really strong team everytime and now they are on their home turf. Six of the seven teams that have won the world cup have done so as hosts...so history is on my side. Also I am going for Iran (which seems to be in the Group of Death this year) and USA to advance the round of 16.

I guess we Germans are too well organized to permit this scenario to become reality  Wink

Brasil.

Maybe for the next world cup the rest of the world plays, and the winner of the rest play´s Brasil, that sound´s more interesting.

Erik, I'm sure you also recall that sublimely gifted side from 1982, the one that was so much better than any other side in the tournament. Didn't win though.  scratchchin

Definitely one of the worst penlty decisions I've seen in ages! Big grin

1. No...Not even possible to make it across even if I had tickets.
2. Vive Le France......I am hoping Zizou can go out a winner...certainly not going to happen at REAL.
3.Vive Le France (Sorry I am biased)...How can any one bet against Brasil.......

I am not a fan of Ronaldhino...but the man will have a huge World Cup, and
will be the BIGGEST and BEST player going forth. Period.
Come on you gunners......!!!!!

We even have so-called "Option Tickets" with the FIFA - 36 hrs before you will know whether or not they have been awarded.. the only problem is that MrNiji did not read the ToR properly, and € 500 were booked in advance from his account, independent whether or not we get these tickets for the quaterfinal game.. if not, the money will only be refunded after the WM ("Fussball Mafia FIFA!" Big grin ) ... now, MrNiji permanently has an excuse that he has no money when we go to the pub.. probably he has already achieved the break-even point, and I will make BIG losses  Angry  bigthumbsup

I'll be laughing so hard when your beloved Brasil goes back home early.
But I guess that as good neighbors we are we will let you see the cup for a while.

Ya, too bad you'll be doing that in revenge for 2002 *If it ever happens* in the first place, which doesn't seem likely.

As for the winner anyone but England , in scotland we have 40 years of listening to how england won in 1966 , a dodgy goal given by a dodgy linesman and a referee who allowed the match to continue when the pitch was invaded by spectators and police chasing them when england scored their 4 goal.

If Zurawski, Frankowski and Smolarek will be in form and Szymkowiak leading them through the midfield I think we have good chances, even against Germany who themselves are in bad form right now.

Otherwise, I will be also cheering for Croatia and the Netherlands.

Poland is an interesting challenge for Germany.. teh game might be crucial for both teams! Well, I guess that it might be a draw, but let's wait for the WM developments beforehand!

Possibly, but I think that both teams will go through with a 1-2 punch through the group.

My wife and I were planning on going but instead we are having a baby in June. I guess I have to wait a few more years.

As I am in Japan, I would say that Japan will do well but not as well as last time. The players that are in Europe have been getting big headed and think that since they play in Europe they own the field. They are also in a group with some heavies. But they might put a good fight.

I was surprised that the U.S. beat Japan last week. Too bad no one will notice the U.S. team in the U.S.

There are some of us here that notice. The US has been on a roll of late, winning several friendlies with relative ease...

And as one of the few US football fans around, I would argue that we are in the group of death. While your side is in a formidable group, I think ours is a tougher draw. I figure we need to go AT LEAST 1-1-1 to have a chance. But regardless, I can't wait. After the American's awesome showing in Japan/Korea (awesome by USA football standards) I have high hopes that we will show the world we are a side to be feared...

I'm betting that reruns of "My Mother the Car" shown in Little Rock, Arkansas gets higher ratings than World Cup shown in any USA television market.  Silly

Probably, but if we continue to win on a consistent basis, particularly on a world stage such as the World Cup, all the "I've been a soccer fan my whole life" yokels will start coming out of the woodwork. After all, this country does love a winner...
