I would go for the Mirage because of:

I was totally dissapointed with the pyramid rooms in the Luxor, good that I was always drunk while being there.  Silly

hint hint why i said tower rooms, they look luxurious for a standard room, they are bigger, balconies, and views of the strip!  , but , agreed, those pyramid rooms are like staying in a tin can with a water drop and a spark (representing the shower and the tv LOL)

heres the rooms im looking at

luxor : tower room

mirage :

Damn, I had requested a tower room but didn't know that they are better.

Additionally asked the lady at the front desk something like: "Is this the first time for you guys in the Luxor?", I said: "Yes" and she said something like: "Then I will give you a pyramid room, you will enjoy it".

Enjoy it my ass, I could only enjoy it after 15 beers or so.

haha, thats why when you check in, you be like me, like when i stayed at alladin a ways back, i requested a view of strip in right portion of hotel, with a high floor (funny thing is i tricked here somewhat into giving me a fountainview room when i paid for a standard room) because, what i told her i wanted, are actually are the amenities of a fountainview room, and guess what i got ?? Big grin

I stayed at the Mirage YEARS ago and it was very nice. This past Labor Day, I stayed at Treasure Island, which is the sister casino to Mirage, and had a great time there. If I'm not mistaken, Luxor is kind of far from the main Strip, while Mirage is right on the Strip, so you can really walk around to the other casinos. I liked the location of Mirage, it was next to Ceasers, across from the Venetian, a 5 minute walk from Bellagio. I would go with Mirage. But let us know what you choose; either way, you'll have a great time.  Smile

I had a terrible experience with the Luxor. Try the Mirage.

Neither..

Monte Carlo! Reasonable prices and great location (Next to Bellagio). The best bang for your buck in my opinion.

The pool is anything but boring. They have a lazy river and a more interesting pool area than the luxor or the mirage.

* Lagoon Pool - A classically-designed 1,900 sq. ft. swimming pool.
* Kiddie Pool - A 520 sq. ft. enclosed children's pool.
* Spa - A private, heated spa with a 12 ft. diameter.
* Wave Pool - The Monte Carlo was the first Strip property to recreate the ocean. This 4,800 sq. ft. amenity features waves that reach 30".
* Easy River Ride - Sit back and relax as you are carried down 400 ft. of a slow-flowing river at speeds of up to 4 miles per hour.

I though Vegas had a monorail type system, but I didn't see it when I was there. Some of the casinos have monorails between them (Mirage/Treasure Island, Monte Carlo/Bellagio). But for the most part, everything is walking distance. I would go for Mirage, only because it's right on The Strip. Make sure when you are there to see the fountain show at Bellagio. That was a most awesome site.

Try the Flamingo, assuming your trip is prior to the A.net LAS meetup. If it's after, I'd avoid the Flamingo, the Impotent Palace, and possibly Barbary Coast, Paris, Caesars, and Paris.

Luxor is right on the strip, just at a different point. It depends what casinos you want to hang around the most. Luxor is by the '4 corners' of MGM, NY-NY, Tropicana and Excalibur, then Mandalay Bay next door. Mirage is by Caesars, Venitian, Treasure Island etc.

Quoting EWROwznj00 (Reply 11):

Now thats something I wouldnt say. If you walk down from Luxor to the Venitian or something, you most definitley won't want to walk back! My legs got as sore as they had ever been in Vegas. But then of course, most of the monorails require you walking through the casino and shopping areas forever. A real catch-22.

the only pool open when im there (march) is lagoon, and mirage is much more lush imo, but , i guess you can keep throwing hotels at me , get the deposit rate please. march 15-20

my requirements are , nice pool , nice casino, nice rooms . simple as that, and dont give me the slotsafun or some 1 floor casino like that lol. it also has to be on the strip

Mirage, hands down, especially if it's on someone else's dime. Larger rooms, much better location on the Strip (Luxor is way down at the south end), a cleaner atmosphere (in my opinion, anyway) and, if it matters, one of the best buffets around.

Aside from the weird ass pyramid rooms, the Luxor "elevators" are actually "inclinators" (that's truly what they're called). They don't elevate, they inclinate, meaning the asscend and descend at an angle. It didn't bother me but the first (and last) time I took the girlfriend there, she actually got a little nauseaous from them (and trust me, she's not normally weak stomached).

The only things I can think of that the Luxor has over the Mirage are their rates are usually lower (for good reason), and if you are lucky enough to get a room on the east side of the hotel, you have a decent view of LAS.

Ok, was wondering when you were going. The average high in march is only 69, so don't expect good swimming conditions no matter where you stay.

hehe, i always swim in vegas, if its going to be 69 (which it hasnt the past three years ive been there ) ill be in the hot tub  LOL , but seriously, im more then open to other hotels too, march 15-20 just make sure its not awful expensive , and maximum deposit should be about 300$ , 2 adults and 2 children

I agree, I stay at the Monte a lot. It's the best value.

If you are choosing between Luxor and Mirage it's not even close. The Luxor is a dump. If you can spend the extra money stay at the Mirage.

So, you know how Luxor´s monorail works ...
On the return one has to battle one´s way through Excalibur´s casino ...  Sad

The other monorail runs north from the backside of MGM Grand - see http://www.lvmonorail.com/ for details (I haven´t used it yet ...).

For the evenings, I would prefer the location of the Mirage over the Luxor.

Yeah, the new monorail basically extended the MGM-Ballys monorail to the end of the strip and also to LAS. Also, there is now a charge- $5 each way, which I think is an absolute joke. It should absolutely be complimentary, as it connects business between casinos who will reap in the profits. What a joke.

dang, plus, thats just going to

A) discourage customers
B) then who gives a crap, we can walk
C) all money invested in monorail is wasted due to the fact its so expensive and people just will walk.

It can't be any worse than Circus Circus. My last trip to Vegas was about two years ago, and when I booked my trip, I didn't realize that some of the school districts in the western US didn't have Spring Break until around mid-April, so there were loads of families in some of the places. Nothing like trying to go in cash in your slots winnings and nearly getting sideswiped by a stroller being pushed around by an 8 year pretending it's a race car.

okay guys, im very sorry, but the mirage has gone way up in price, im going with the luxor. my friend from las vegas (family member from DFW) just stayed there a month ago, great value, the inclinator and view of the hotel from your hallway is just breathtaking ive heard, plus, for a 5 night stay, the deposit is 141$!!! compared to the mirages 320$. i like having gambling money in vegas, not spending it all on a hotel, besides, 80% of your vacation is spent outside the hotel. very sorry to you mirage supporters, but its too much money. After extensive research (29 hours total) i have the following hotels

1)luxor- staying there.
2)monte carlo- second place by close margin
3)mirage- too much money

thanks for the input, sorry the mirage just went up into the 300$ per night though  Sad plus the mirage isnt casual enough, the luxor has casual dining, FOUR pools opening march 1st. Too good of a deal.
