Whisky Vs Whiskey

Mon Feb 13, 2006 6:56 pm

This was supposed to be a reply to another thread, but decided to make it a new thread instead...

Quoting SATX (Reply 21):
*When I say "whiskey" I'm actually referring to Scotch whiskey.

A quick lesson for you:

Whisky: The water of life, bottled in Scotland
Whiskey: Immitation water of life bottled outside of Scotland.

"Whisky" is a protected name which can only be used for authentic Scottish whisky. Like Parma ham must come from Parma, Champagne must come from the Champagne region, anything else is "sparkling wine", or in this case "Whiskey".

So remember that next time you post

Make one post while you're drunk and you might end up with a whole other thread just to set you strait. Sheesh. Oh well, I doubt I'll be making that mistake again anytime soon (the spelling mistake, that is).  Big grin

Nothing fancy for my mixed drinks...

This is the nicest bottle I have for drinking strait...

You are spot on - excellent Scotch right there . . . It's over $200 a bottle in ANC at the moment . . . I did get some in Guam for $75 a bottle in '98 or '99 . . .

Hey, are we agreeing again???  faint

SATX: What do you expect for an american immitation of Whisky  Silly

Incidentally, it was a scottish chemist that suggested adding sour mash to the process, giving it a whole new taste which has now been adopted as standard  Silly

You should all leave the making of alcohol to the Scots  Silly

Whiskey is not Whisky...one is filtered through...ugh "peat"...the other is slooooooow mellowed in oaken casks that have been rolled between the thighs of..big boned Southern girls...Bourbon is a BLEND, guess if'n you can't get it right the first time..mix it with something else....Try Makers Mark...the OTHER, Better sour mash...

Salut!!
