Do The Paparazzi Go Too Far?

Wed Feb 15, 2006 2:49 am

Sienna Miller has lashed out at the photographers who relentlessly follow her and her celebrity friends.

She's told the BBC she's considering asking Prime Minister Tony Blair to change the law governing paparazzi.

Does she have a right to complain? Or are famous people fair game for photographers? Do celebrities enjoy the coverage when they want it and moan about it when they don’t? I mean we had this debate after 'Dianagate' and nothing's changed has it!

They can't have it both ways.

And why exactly is that wrong? Journalists can decide whether or not they want to cover a story, whom they portray and how. So why shouldn't the "victim" have a saying in that as well when it comes to their private life?
It's not that you lose your civil rights when you get famous.

no but you have to expect everyone to want to know your business, these people have made their money from being in the limelight (most of them) that takes away there right to duck out of it (unless for good) as far as I'm concerned

The paparazzi go only as far as the public pushes them to. Since the public has shown they have an insatiable appetite for celebrity gossip, the paparazzi are only filling a demand. Sure the celebs feed into it at times, but in the end, if any one is to 'blame' it's 'us'.

They're famous. Of course people want to photograph them. My attitude is 'tough shit'. OK, so perhaps in the US they have gone a bit far after allegedly causing Ashlee Simpson to crash her car, but if you're famous, you have to expect it. Celebrities have always been subjected to limelight, and most of them revel in it as it boosts their profiles.
