No surprise to see Sato in the lineup really.

Nice to see another team on the grid though!

Looks like Aguri Suzuki has created Alain Prost's dream by creating a team for a country. The only thing which Super Aguri dosn't have, which Prost had, is a base in its respective home country. But it uses Japanese tyres, engines and drivers. Where as Prost aimed to do it all French.

No surprises about the line up. A number of names were thrown around and Anthony Davidson, being Honda's protoge, could be at the team next year.

This shall be an interesting year. First off, seeing if Scott Speed can live up to his name and not pull an Andretti(Michael); I would love to see an American finally be competitive again in F1. Second, these V-8s are going shake things up a bit. Third, whatever BS Bernie comes out with during the season.

I think this could be the season where the competetion is back in F1. There are some very good teams with good drivers behind the wheels. Out of the teams mentioned 6-7 teams are in a really good standing, taking into effect last season and the drivers' records.

My questions about this coming season are:

- Is Felipe Massa going to be as good a teammate to Michael as Rubens was? Why did Rubens leave? Money?

- Which team has the Russian ownership? I wish them good luck this year.

- Are the V8s going to be reliable? What are they going to sound like? I loved the sounds of those V10s running around the last turn at IMS!

- Are the teams going to have the same engine restrictions placed on them as last year (IE: one engine, two races) and the same tire restrictions as last year?

- How is Jacques going to take being the number 2 driver for a team (BMW Sauber F1)?

- Amen, nice to see 22 cars on the grid  checkeredflag

MF1 Racing, essentially a rebranded Jordan

The engines must still ast for 2 race weekends, but tire changes will be allowed again.

 Smile Isn't it!

The true master of BS was Irvine! Bring back Eddie!! He was great, a true personality - something what a lot of newer F1 drivers don't have.

I am actually surprised how quite Jacques is...

He was sick of playing second fiddle to MS. He still had 1 year left on his Ferrari contract, but was released. Massa is there to fill a seat because Ferrari couldn't get anyone better in time. There are plenty of Kimi rumors around and personally I think there is some truth to them. Moreso now that Alonso has signed on to McLaren.

It would be good to see an AMerican be succesful at any truly global sport. Big grin {stir the pot}

He was that. Pity the rumours of him buying out Midland never came to fruition. THough I suspect we'll see him back as a Team Principle one day....

Also BAR should suit Rubens nicely - as the team boss is his good mate Gil de Ferran, it wasn't hard to persuade him....

So far yes, apart from our lovely mercedes...

For engine wise, yes, apart from Scuderia Toro Rosso (former Minardi) which will use a restricted V10 engine.
For tyre wise, no. All teams are allowed to change tyres now, unlike last year, one set of tyres has to last for the whole qualifying plus race.

- Why do they get to keep the V10 and everyone else has to go to the 90 Degree V8s?

I think this will be his final year. He isn't going to be fighting for the champsionship anyways.

I think they will be. It is going to be very interesting. Cosworth seems to have produced an excellent motor, and for the Honda chief to come out and say that his engine is good enough is very surprising. Again, it may just be a PR tactic, you never know. At the end of last season, I expected the Honda engine to be fantastic because of their extensive V8 experience in IRL.

Quoting Tiger119 (Reply 5):

Rubens wanted a contract extension of 2 years, with an option for the third. Ferrari was only ready to sign for 1 year.

Also, I think Rubens is very fond of Senna, and seeing how Senna and Honda had an extremely close relationship, I wonder if he thinks he can have the same. Something tells me that he is going to be sorely disappointed.

Massa is clearly an intermediate solution. Rossi is definitely coming onboard, and once Schumi leaves Kimi will replace him.

And the fact that McLaren lost Newey and 3 more aero guys over the winter. The Illmor engine doesn't seem to be on top of the world right now.

All teams are allowed to run V10, but they will be rev limited.

That's not entirely true. FM was unofficially the heir to RB's throne when Ferrari decided to take him under their wing and let him log some time at their Swiss bitch, Sauber and as a test pilot.

However, the sad reality is that whomever is there aside Schumi will always be a second fiddle, but then again, I'm sure most F1 drivers would die for a chance to be second fiddle at one of the most succesful F1 teams ever.

What does a RPM restricted IRL V-8 have in common with an F1 motor, wouldn't the 18K RPM motors that Honda built for CART a few years ago have more technological transfer?

I don't follow IRL all that closely, and didn't realize that the V8s were rev limited. Thanks for the correction.

Quoting Aerobalance (Reply 15):

Rubens is no where close to Senna or Surtees in terms of talent. He is not going to have the Honda engineers devoted to him like Ayrton or John did.

Also, Honda is now involved in more than just engines.
