CNN Hiding Lou Dobbs From West Coast

Thu Feb 16, 2006 7:14 am

CNN is not my favorite network right now. I used to watch the Lou Dobbs show in the evening, prime time, in lieu of stupidities like shows that deal with missing persons. I like Lou's take on the news. He's one of the few conservatives on CNN.

Well, the last few months, they've expanded Anderson Cooper's show and kicked Lou off to some earlier slot that I basically can't watch. Thanks a lot, CNN! Not.

Lou Dobb has made the news through his hard-hitting news and commentary on illegal aliens. CNN probably thinks that folks in California shouldn't learn that we have so much support in our complaints about the cost of illegal immigration.

Things like this make me believe in accusations that there is a "liberal mainstream news media".

He's for free and fair trade and against illegals. Those are conservative positions in my book.

Yet they put him on prime time in the ideal 6-7 news hour in the most prominent eastern timezone. Give me a break. The east is the biggest news market, and I don't envision millions staying up til midnight watching Anderson.

Tape it.

So? Anderson has more time, and he doesn't deserve it. He's just a glamor boy.

Dobbs has a core audience. He's smart. He deserves to be heard live, not on tape.

Then his core audience on the eastern seaboard is being catered to wonderfully. Tough luck for you.

Don't equate a network's favoritism of one reporter over another as a liberal media bias! Come on! Maybe Cooper gets better ratings or is more able to fill up 2 hours. This media bias shit has been force fed down my throat for so long, lets just try to keep logical about this here.

Yeah, it is tough -- particularly because California and the rest of the West and Southwest States are the ones most swamped by illegals.

CNN really went down the toilet. I used to like Bernard Shaw, but they never replaced him after he retired.

Didn't Dobbs get in trouble a while back for some statements or financial dealings or something?

I used to have a mad schoolboy crush on Rudi Bakhtiar on CNN Headlined News but she has been off the air for ages. Anyone know where she went?

Good point.

Now I wish I had made this thread about Anderson Cooper. I don't get what's so great about this guy. He's basically just a pretty face. I blame the network brass for promoting him and tossing Aaron Brown out on his keister, practically.

Aaron Brown might not have been Bernard Shaw, but he had depth. More than I see in Anderson "I can really emote for you; here, let me prove it" Cooper, a.k.a. Anderson "Don't mention Hurricane Katrina; it'll just make me mad" Cooper.

And Larry King -- don't get me started. Although not as bad as that new Maury weekend show on MSNBC.

AC360 is 359 degrees too many.

IMHO.

Lou Dobbs is a rather independent conservative. Over the last several years, he has taken strong stands against illegal immigration for the wide range of harm to governments and working people; against our 'free trade' that sends far too many industrial and service jobs to China and India; in favor of a strong yet balanced post-9/11 security policy; against government waste and incompentency. He is pro business, but not when they are screwing government. His main background is in business and the markets. While I don't agree with all of his positions, I do believe he does bring some balance into the mix without going FoxNews or other way extremes.

Hrm, I usually watch Lou Dobbs on the repeat at 1AM. I actually like the way we get the news early though. When I spent a few weeks back east my entire schedule was messed up because everything came on 3 hours too late!

Give me Dobbs over Limbaugh any day of the week. To me, Limbaugh's lectures often seem like talking points from the White House.

Dobbs is a conservative when it comes to money issues (something definately missing in the higher rungs of government these days) and has an unusually hateful streak against undoccumented workers. The thing is, I have yet to see Dobbs actually present an economically sound alternative to the scores of cheap labor gained by many states (and not just agricultural border states anymore) from migrant labor

Quoting AerospaceFan (Reply 2):

Point 1 is no longer something the conservative establishment is for in the country, for point 2, read above.

Um, Anderson Cooper is being groomed to be the next Bernard Shaw (only white and gay) because of the abject failure that Aaron Brown has been. He has matured into an excellent, hard hitting reporter and very competent anchor. He also draws in a strong young demographic while holding onto the older, core news audience. He should have more time. Lou Dobbs has never been the featured anchor at CNN because he has a more narrow range of expertise. I generally like the guy but it is obvious that when he has to do hard news or something non-economy related, he falters.

Precisely. How many American's are willing to do the back breaking work that most of these illegals are doing and all for minimal wages. On the reverse,
are how many are willing to pay higher(much higher) for fruits, vegetables, etc.

Lou Dobbs as far I am concerned is nothing more then a nationalist who suddenly has problems with immigration, free trade when America is at disadvantage. He wouldn't be bring up these issues especially trade if the roles were reveresed and America greatly benefitted from the trading ( Balance of Trade of US's favour)
Come on you gunners......!!!!!

Not enough to pay $9 billion a year. This is the cost to the State of California, as I recall, attributable to illegals.

Think about it: Whenever we had labor shortages in the past, what did we do? We either raised prices, or we invented machines to fill the gap. Or both.

Machines don't cost the State $9 billion in medical and other welfare costs.

Let Mexico, China, and others countries from whom illegals come, take care of their own. Let them not export their problems to us.

And as far as Lou Dobbs: His kind of nationalism is perhaps the kind we should respect. He cares about Americans of all kinds. It's illegal aliens that give him problems.

Um, those numbers are suspect at best, complete  redflag  at most. Additionally, the economic additions to California far outweigh the drain or farm owners would stop employing migrant workers

No machine has ever been invented to pick the strawberry and many other major California crops by hand, nor will they likely ever. Additionally, any such machine would lead to massive capital expenditure and monopolization in agribusiness

Remember hydroponics?

Further, with the advances in robotic technology, who is to say that invention would not have resulted in a suitable replacement for human labor? Automation has accomplished many things in the recent past.
