Sexual Taboos In Your Culture/religion/country?

Wed Feb 22, 2006 11:53 am

Apparently masturbation and oral sex are punishable by death or prison in Indonesia, Hasidic Jews have a sheet with a hole in so procreation doesn't involve skin-to-skin wrestling, there is an allegation that in Greek man-love, the giver is not considered gay if it is a case of "any port in a storm", whereas the receiver is (Hey don't flame me a Gay Greek told me this!).

In some African cultures merely touching a menstruating woman can drain a man of his "gri-gri" power.

Anyone here live under interesting taboos or strictures regarding duvet olympics?

Not true.
I'm on orthodox jew(modern orhodox, not reform, not conservative, a regular ''non black hat jew'') and we don't have such a practice. There HAS to be full contact.
Now, oral sex is not permited, and anal sex only if it is preasurable to the woman too.
And also intercouse with a menstruing woman is not allowed, and after the last sight of blood, must wait 7 days and then go to the mikve, ritual bath. After that, there is an obligation on the husband to give her sex.And intercourse should be had in the basis of 1 time a week at least in the most cases, with the law changing, sometimes more, and some times less.

Homosexuallity is not allowed, and during the times of the temple(2000 years ago) was punitable with death, stoning to be more exact.
The same goes with sex with animals.

Also, one must not ingage in sexual intercourse with the following:
Mother, Sister, daughter, aunt, father's wife, a mother and her daughter, two sisters, daughter in law, sister in law, and such.

In Suriname there is something called a menstruating house, where all mestruating women go to sleep when they are having their periods. They are not allowed to sleep next to their husbands and also are not allowed to cook, because during their periods they are considered un-clean.

It only involved specific blac tribes in Suriname, so I think this practise has it origin somewhere in Africa. I am not sure though.

You have to admit - New Zealand women (or should that be "woman") have a thing for perms. But it's an interesting concept regarding wool - I wonder if there's a connection........

Not much sexual taboos left in Finland either.
Sauna + sex is perhaps one, in a way.
Finnish sauna culture can be confusing to foreigners, unlike in many other places in Finland sauna has usually very little to do with sex, it's more a family thing. Or a way to spend time with friends, like I do in my tiny sauna. Cool beer and sauna is a great combination.
Traditionally in catholic countries families go to the church on Sundays, in Finland they go to sauna on Saturdays. Sauna is still a strong tradition here.
In high school we were warned that the American exhange students are not used to spend time naked with the family..

What Mike (AR1300) said.

I was speaking with a Hassidic rabbi once about this topic who comes from one of the more stringent sects of the Hassidic world and he also said full contact. I would venture to say that the "hole through the sheet" term was meant to be a joke by a few however turned out to be what people believe to be the truth. (Even though it is not.)

The following are from dumblaws.com.

In West Virginia:
1. Unmarried couple who live together and "lewdly associate" with one another may face up to a year in prison.
2. Any person who commits adultery shall be fined at least twenty dollars.
3. It is legal for a male to have sex with an animal as long as it does not exceed 40 lbs.

In Virginia:
1. Not only is it illegal to have sex with the lights on, one may not have sex in any position other than missionary.
2. If one is not married, it is illegal for him to have sexual relations.
3. You may not have oral or anal sex.

In North Carolina:
1. While having sex, you must stay in the missionary position and have the shades pulled.
2. It is illegal to have sex in a churchyard.
3. Oral sex is considered a crime against nature.

In Mississippi:
1. Adultery or Fornication (living togeather while not married or having sex with someone that is not your spouse) results in a fine of $500 and/or 6 months in prison.
2. Unnatural intercourse, if both parties voluntarily participate, results in a maximum sentence of 10 years and $10,000.
3. It is illegal for a male to be sexually aroused in public.

In Tennessee:
1. More than 8 women may not live in the same house because that would constitute a brothel.
2. Giving and receiving oral sex is still prohibited by law.
3. Interracial marriages are illegal.

Texas:
Up to a felony charge can be levied for promoting the use of, or owning more than six dildos.

Utah:
It is illegal to have sex in a moving ambulance and if you are caught the guy is let go and the woman is punished and her name appears in the newspaper.

Well, off the top of my head I can think of... prostitution, abortion, evolution, sodomy, scat, bestiality, and pornography.

Prostitution - Illegal in 49 states and only barely legal in the 50th.
Abortion - Legal now, but for how long? Only one remaining hurtle left.
Evolution - Still being debated, even today.
Sodomy - Illegal in several states until recently struck down.
Scat - This probably should remain taboo.
Bestiality - See above.
Pornography - Publications featuring sex involving consensual adults was about to become John Ashcroft's first big crusade when 9-11 occurred. Now Alberto Gonzalez is taking up the fight against consensual pornography featuring adult actors. Again, I'm referring specifically to pornography featuring CONSENTING ADULTS here.

*Just in case you don't know who John Ashcroft and Alberto Gonzalez are, they were appointed to the rank of Attorney General by Bush 43, and they actually make Janet Reno look good.

In Judaism (Orthodox) its forbidden to have sex wearing clothes etc, AR1300 is correct.
I thought anything else (ie Oral) was permissable and only the "spilling of seed" outside of the Vagina (ie where it can not/may not lead to pregnancy) was forbidden? (ie Onan?)

Anyhow, in regards to the Niddah (Menstural period), the husband and wife can't even drink from the same cup while shes in her period let alone touch.

Judaisms really pretty open (perhaps complicated) with sex in comparison to most religions.

While you are correct with regard to Ashcroft/Reno, Gonzales is a huge improvement over his predecessor, and at least on par with Reno - if not better. While I respect Ms. Reno for her integrity, her decision making skills were horrid. After Waco and the Elian debacle, it's hard to imagine a worse performance under pressure by an Attorney General.

Abortion - Legal now, but for how long? Only one remaining hurtle left.

It's a states rights issue. If it is overturned at the federal level all that does is throw it back to the states where the decision belongs to begin with. The 10th Amendment is the long forgotten part of the Bill of Rights.

Scat - This probably should remain taboo.
Bestiality - See above.

Yes! Please keep this crap (pun intended) hidden. I really have no need to see a chick get a "Hot Karl."

I think it belongs with the woman and nobody else. I don't agree with (or even understand, really) people who think anyone else should have control. I also don't understand why the effort to 'save children' seems to wane after they're born. Plenty of youth the world over are forced to live through terrible childhoods, but they rarely get the same rabid attention pro-lifers give to the average zygote.

Abortion is one of those polarizing topics that really have no middle ground it seems. I understand your viewpoint and I'm not going to say if it is right or wrong. It is your view and you are entitled to it. As someone who is adopted I am thankful every day I was given a chance to live and I hope I have done a halfway decent job in my life. I personally don't agree with abortion as a method of birth control or convenience but it is not my decision to make.

What I was saying is that it is not a federal issue but a states issue because of the 10th Amendment to the Constitution. Somewhere along the way our legislators pulled a good one on us and have begun to forget this very powerful amendment. We fought a pretty nasty war over this amendment almost 150 years ago. Whether or not you agree with the states regulating abortion is something different. The decision to regulate should only be applied at the state level or lower and no other. The broad interpretation of the Constitution by all branches of government has begun to get out of control.
