Sun Feb 26, 2006 8:56 pm

Here's a fun story about a smart little whale who's making friends in Japan.  Smile

I've seen video of this on CNN Headline News. It's quite interesting -- he seems to enjoy showing off his new trick!

I think it's so the whale can breathe underwater so he can blow more kisses.

Indeed!  Smile Beluga whales are already very appealing in themselves; this new trick makes this particular individual, particularly so!

If you can teach a Beluga whale to suck on a hose for air, I think that's a bigger achievement than blowing bubbles. I can do that in the bathtub without even going underwater!

The report I saw on TV said the whale breathes in through its blowhole. I saw it blow several bubbles without any assistance from the diver in the tank with it and the other 2 Belugas. It did look cool though!

I wonder what the whale thought of the diver. "Strange-looking, for a whale!"
