Personally, I thought the coverage was pretty good although locking the other networks completely out seems to have bit NBC pretty hard in the ass ratings wise. It's a real shame as there was a lot worth watching.

Congrats to Italy for doing what looked like a great job of hosting.

Well I believe it all is coming to an end. Oh well, I guess we are gonna pretend.

Here in the U.S., Olympics videos can be bought through the NBC-Universal store, and they have mobile ringtones, etc. available through the NBC Sports Mobile Store. Here's a link to the portal for these two stores:

Here's the list, the host will be chosen next year:

Almaty, Kazakhstan
Borjomi, Georgia
Jaca, Spain
PyeongChang, South Korea
Salzburg, Austria
Sochi, Russia
Sofia, Bulgaria

I'm thinking either Salzburg or PyeongChang.

Norway really didn't do too well this year. Oh well...

As far as 2014, they are all in odd-ball timezones anyways, so it'll be another Olympics I won't watch. 2010 on the other hand  Smile

Congratulations to all Olympians. The above table is a bit misleading, as it's not all about gold. Germany first, then U.S., then Canada, which is setting itself up nicely to do even better when it hosts 2010.

Congrats especially to Cindy Klassen of Canada -- five medals, more than anyone.

[Re-posted here by yours truly after my deletion of same from the "Ricky Martin" thread, for reasons of content.]

After having listened to the linguistically hybrid Canadian anthem beautifully sung at the closing ceremonies, yesterday, I'm not quite sure why there is so much French spoken (or, in this case, sung) in Canadian-related events, unless it's simply a matter of trying to be completely fair. I do realize that Canada is officially bilingual, but most of Canada is predominantly English-speaking. Because of Canada's attempt to be even-handed, and ironically enough, Canada's international image is almost that of a French-speaking country.

Quebec has about eight or nine million people, and the vast majority of them are predominantly French-speaking. However, Canada is a country of 30 million, and most of the non-Quebeckers speak French only as a second language.

The most populous and powerful province in Canada is Ontario, most of whose inhabitants speaking English either exclusively or predominantly.
What's fair is fair.

I just wish some Americans preformed a little better and didn't act like such jerks (Bode Miller being case #1).
I did notice that the logo for the Winter Olympics in 2010 in Vancouver, BC, Canada is a stylized native American totem pole, found in the Vancouver region. A very suitable symbol indeed.
It appears these games have been successful. No terror attacks (thank God) and a lot of good competitions - the goal of any Olympics.

You've guys have to be encoraged about Jan's chances at the Tour de France this year, too. He's getting older, but who knows! He and Andreas Kloden might be in exceptional form this year, and now he's rid of that maverick Vinokourov (Vino is NOT a team player!)

I personally like Ivan Basso to win it this year, but I enjoy seeing "Der Kaiser" out there when he's got a good team with him.

As popular as the TdF may be, this year, it is marginal, the Olympics were nice...but marginal..this year is WC 2006...and trust me, THAT is what counts!!

I know that may sound somewhat biased, but it's a fact, Germany is looking forward to the World Cup, 4 and a half weeks in June and July, the whole world will be coming to Germany and it's going to be one frigging superparty, even though those bloody organisers do just about anything to make things unpleasant for the people.

btw: Is Ulrich's nickname Kaiser?? I wonder, because the nick Kaiser is taken forever and ever in German sports...that was, is and always will be our football icon Franz Beckenbauer:

Holy Cow! StuckinMAF is a cycling fan? And respects my man Ullrich, as well? Wow - newfound respect for StuckinMAF!

I think the Vancouver Olympics are going to be just great. I think Canada will do better with medals there, too. For those who can't enjoy the winter games, and feel the need to tear them down; it's your loss, unfortunately. Airlinelover, why are you always so mad these days??

And AerospaceFan, I'm afraid i don't get your point. About 25% of Canada is francophone, and French has an important cultural history in almost all the rest of the provinces, too. At least 7 provinces have at least a handful of towns where French is the main language. A minority, of course. But not insignificant. No one will deny that English is the language of the larger majority, but why NOT use French, as well? It's problematic to FORCE the use of french, but if there's room and opportunity to use both, why object?

Anyway, I didn't see the closing ceremonies, so I don't know specifically what yo'ure referring to, anyway. But I will remind you that French is also one of the official languages of the olympics - so you will hear things in French at every single olympics. Did you notice there was French (along with English and Italian) spoken at every single medal ceremony?

JL
