What Do You Hate About Your Government?

Tue Feb 28, 2006 8:22 pm

Just a simple question.... Why are we always hating our governments?

Well ours seem to be focussing on becoming a nanny state rather than sorting out the real problems. Spending money on advertising campaigns telling us to eat less salt, when anti-social behaviour is still rampant. Utterly pointless.

Additionally, they never really do anything that was promised when we elected them last year.

Mhodgson :
Tell your leader Tony Blair that he has his tongue up the wrong ass.
Dubya & Co is the wrong leader to kiss up to.
Then again, the UK hasn't accepted the fact that they are no longer a world superpower so kissing up to our government is the best they can do to feel as if it still is.

We wish we had your problems.

Not just last year, remember all the promises from the first and second election that Blair won  Sad

Actually I don't.

In fact I voted for it.

I put my vote personally on our present minister of financial affairs, and he never let me down.

I could have been voting on our PM if only he had been running in my district.

I'm really starting to hope that Hillary or some other liberal gets elected next time around, and that the democrats take control of Congress. I can't wait to see whom you'll blame then when things aren't just the way you want them to be. Fortunately I'm mature enough to know that 8 years is not enough time to do any lasting damage to any country the size and scope of the United States.

As to the topic. I don't hate our government. I just wish it were a lot smaller and did just those things the Constitution says it should do. Instead of the monster that it has become over the decades. It have taken much that were supposedly states rights.

They're corporate hacks and concubines. Have been for years regardless of the party which dominates. Abit of an oversimplification...but not by a whole helluva lot.

Indeed.

We also need to loosen up aviation regulations in this country. Sure it will bitch slap AC and WS but at least I won't have to pay a million dollars in taxes to fly Ottawa-Calgary.

They will just blame the Republicans for attempting to "sabotage" their reforms. Politics never change. The party in power attempts to push its agenda while the party out of power does all it can to stop them. Then they point fingers at each other, blaming everyone but themselves when things go wrong.

Established to provide enhanced security for the skies over the capital, the ADIZ is, in my opinion, a shining example of bureaucracy run amok. All it has done is increase the workload of the area's ATC. Don't get me started on those Presidential and Sporting Event TFRs.  Yeah sure

How many times have you personally flown through the ADIZ? It isn't that bad at all and certainly not as bad as AOPA tries to make it out to be.

We live in a different world. Not being able to fly my Cessna next to the Washington monument is a luxury I'm willing to give up in order to provide more security.

I do realize that AOPA tends to get a bit, shall we say, exuberant at times.  Wink

At any rate, I do realize that some things will never be the same again. But I fail to see how the complicated procedures for flight into/out of the DC ADIZ will prevent anything. All "they" have to do is jump through all the hoops, and then strike their target.

If we allow this to slide, what's next?  worried

I can understand where you're coming from here. I know it doesn't seem like much because in reality all someone has to do is take off from DCA and go right towards where they want to hit. No fighter will ever make it on time.

But, the positive side of it is that it really does take out the general aviation traffic in the area. Its a pain to those who want to fly in privately, but to decongest the skies that much really provides a lot of help for ATC to monitor the commercial and military flights that can come in and out. I know this may still be paying lip service to the theory, but it IS doing something.

Hopefully one day we can do something better. They've already started a program with intense lights that will shine at those who cross the ADIZ. Of course, if you're trying to cross it, what the hell difference does it make if someone shines a light in your eyes? But, its creative nonetheless.

I do not hate the government. I am dissilussioned by our representatives. They have been bought and sold three times over or more. They do not represent the people anymore, they represent their corporate or special interests. I'm honestly surprised we haven't seen the Honorable Representative from Texas' 22nd District Presented by ExxonMobil or the UAW Senator from Massachusetts. There is too much crap and corruption in politics; there are too many "representatives" willing to whore themselves out to the highest bidder instead of truly sticking up for what is right and doing good by us.

Politics is a dirty, rotten business. I've been waist deep in it; I'll be up to my neck in it before too long. Fact is, we need people who are willing to stick up for We the People. We need candidates who will not follow the party line and who will vote for what is right. We need people who are willing to take on the system in its current state, who will wade into the water and help right the ship. Those people will have shit coming at them from all sides and will have to be ready to accept it. It is a tough responsibility and one that requires dedication, a tough stomach, and strong support built up over time. We can change it all. The question is are we willing to stick our necks out and try.

'Why' is a philosophical question and usualy gets scapegoated but is almost never is the answer. Ask 'what', 'who', 'when', 'where', and 'how' and you will get an answer, one that hopfully changes per person.

If not, then there may be too many 'bandwagoneers'. Big grin

*the current government is 50%social and 50%liberal? It's like mixing choclolate milk with a coke.
*The way they manage to get BRU as an unattractive place as can be.
*giving up Sabena, thus my cockpit job.
*promises never made.
*21% taxrate.
*8000 flashing poles in Flanders and only 5 in Wallonia.
*superfines. (130km/h and you pay €50, 180km/h is €1000 and you loose your permit)
*annually high road and cartaxes,(€2000 for me) followed by:
*bad highways accesible free of charge for every foreigner.
*incredibly high gasprices.
*every state thing is still a stupid paper instead of a fast internet transaction.
*the fast Belgian law.
*no referendums allowed.
etc.
*oh yes and my extra tax bill of €980 I recieved last week.

Belgium, you gotta love it!
