Where Are You Going On Holiday This Year?

Sun Mar 05, 2006 5:45 am

Hiya!  Smile

Just wondering (and trying to kill some time) where people are, planning or hoping to go on their holibags* this year?

I am taking a 26662 mile trip with my friends and my big brother this year to Sydney and Perth to visit my dad in July. GLA - DXB - SYD - PER - SYD - BKK - DXB - LHR - EDI.

No matter how small (or long) the journey, I'm interested to hear.

I'm off to live in Spain on 23rd March, so I'll be living it up every night and sunbathing all day, so it will be like a permanent holiday for me.

Doesn't look good this year... we had a lot of expenses because of a new apartment we moved into, so probably we'll remain somewhere pretty much "local"... London or Berlin, but only a few days.

I have a mini-vacation of sorts (I'll be there about 35 hours) in a few weeks in Las Vegas (The soon to be Infamous LAS Meetup).

I'm not planning on taking my proper vacation until sometime in October or November, mainly so I can save up more than enough money for the trip. I'm planning on going back to Las Vegas for about 5 or 6 days, as the room rates then are dirt cheap.

ABZ-LHR-FRA to visit an old family friend in july. Might be going to SVG for a long weekend and probably DUB for a weekend to visit my aunt.

I can symposise with you there Tom, at the start of Feb I went on a trip with my University from Birmingham to Amsterdam, took 13 hours. I wasn't on the coach on the way back though, instead I took to ICE to Koln, then flew CGN-BHX with Germanwings, cost me around £75 one way including the rail fare and I only booked 2 days in advance.

What is it about Cornwall that attracts so many Dutch people! We see so many cars and people down here from the Netherlands during the summer months, not complaining - their great to meet and talk to - but just curious as its such a long way by car from the East coast ports?

As for my vactions, I have already been to Dublin, New York, Netherlands and many other day trips this year for fun, but still have the following confirmed;

16th - 19th March in Brussels, Belgium. (Seeing a good friend who studies abroad)
23rd March - 2nd May in Menorca, Spain. (Major chill out time at our villa!)
24th - 30th April in Barcelona, Spain. (Uni trip)
19th - 21st May in Copenhagen. (CPH A.net meet)

Will go back to Menorca possibly every other weekend to see my grandparents, once the direct charters start flying there from BHX. Also will hopefully be going out there for most of the Summer.

At some point the family have been thinking about flying out to Vancouver and then taking the train through the Canadian Rockies again (they did it once in the early 90's already) then flying back from Toronto - but as they are wanting to do this in First Class and the price is over £3000 per person I shall have to see if I can afford it as and when!

I'm British born and bred (speak, read and write fluent Dutch), but my partner is Dutch.

Cornwall = beautiful countryside, dramatic seascapes, Cornish pasties, friendly faces, a very pleasant B&B just outside of Probus near Truro. Fantastic driving conditions (Dutch roads are so boooooooring) and ..... gardens, lots of gardens to visit.

I'm gonna spend two weeks in Canada with some friends after having studied for two months at Toronto in July.
Then I might go for two weeks in California/Nevada with my dad and my brothers. After that I'll fly directly to Tahiti to spend a month there with my dad. Then I'll head to Nagoya where I'll spend a little more than two months for an academic exchange.

Quoting DeltaGator (Reply 45):

Hopefully UGA can help the SEC out of conference record stay strong and put a whooping on you. Would you please explain the marshmellow throwing thing your students do at home games? I went to a CU/Iowa State game a few years ago in Boulder and that didn't make a bit of sense to me.

Well, unfortunately, the marshmallow throwing bit was banned after the 2003 season (my freshman year), but basically, the idea behind it was that every student would bring a couple of bags of marshmallows to games, and as soon as halftime started, an all-out marshmallow throwing war would break out in the student section...there really was no purpose to it, just somethin fun and unique to do between halves, cause our halftime shows are typically very boring...I've been told by CU alum that the tradition used to be a beer and beer cup war, but since they made our stadium a dry stadium about 10 years ago, students had to find somethin else to throw, and that something was marshmallows...unfortunately, it was banned because a bunch of idiots were sticking batteries and stuff into the marshmallows to make them go farther, and a couple of people got injured, so after the 2003 season, they were officially banned from our stadium. Since then, every student now gets a thorough pat-down when entering the stadium...the security people aren't looking for guns or knives or things like that...they're looking for illegal marshmallows!!! Here's a photo of the student entrance to our stadium now...the listing of marshmallows as a banned object always cracks me up because it's so out of place in that list...

GO BUFFS!

On April 20th to 23rd I'm going to Washington DC on a school trip.....we are taking a coach bus.  grumpy  Then on March break 2007 the music department of my school is going to Austria, Germany, and Italy because my music teacher is retiring . A month later I'm going back to Europe except this time we are going to London, Brugge, and Paris....posibely(cant spell) Amsterdam. this also has to do with the school but its the history department this time. The purpose of this trip is the Vimy Ridge 90th anniversary. Is anyone else going on this trip? I'm really excited, I've never been to Europe before .  hyper

PS : this particular trip is only avalable to highschool students in Canada (3598 to be exact) and if you havent heard of it your either not going or your school is not partisapating .
