Venezuela And USA: Proudest Nationalities

Tue Mar 07, 2006 3:48 am

The US National Opinion research center has determined that Venezuelans are the people that feel most proud about their country, they are closely followed by Americans.

The list goes on like this:

Venezuela
USA
Australia
Austria
Chile

Europeans countries are located at the bottom of the list, researchers said. Maybe this has to do with them feeling more European?

That's all I wanted to share with you guys, I found it very interesting.

We have a puppet leader to be ashamed of. The actual leader sits in Habana.

Even though Fidel Castro in La Habana has his faults, his priorities is certainly more important that Dubya & Co's.

Mild weather and anaconda free place is what Caracas is. Been living here 80% of my life.

Bush's priority is to give out oil contacts in Iraq to Halliburton and Castro's main priority is to crush any democractic movement in order to remain in power. Thankfully for you, Bush isn't chasing down and incarcelating his opponents. The freedom of speech and thought that you enjoy in the USA is far better than what any Cuban has (if they have any).

The thing is Superfly, that the fact that you hate Bush so much shouldn't automatically be a cause of support for wackos like Castro and Chavez. Venezuela is suffering Superfly, do you know how many people ring my house bell per week asking for spare food? do you know how many homeless children I see roaming around Caracas's trafficlights each day asking for spare change? The poor are getting poorer Superfly, I'm not lying. Come to Caracas and I'll gladly show you. Chavez is only a populist leader with a nice rethoric speech based on hating Bush. How can it be possible that Chavez blamed Bush for the collapse of the bridge that linked CCS with the city?

Could be, but also something to do with WWII and the danger of nationalism.

Why don't you go and enjoy Fidel's hospitality until then? I would be more than happy to pay your way. BTW, while you are there, live like a Cuban, not a tourist. Work and earn their wages, and spend your money on what you can find. And last, but certainly not least, rant about Fidel a tad less than you rant about Bush, I am sure you will win yourself the best hospitality on the Isle of Youth.

We have our fair share of panhandlers here in the USA.
If your elected leader is so bad, what were the conditions to allow him to get elected? Then restored to power after a failed US supported coupe attempt?

No. It is not irony, just I like Europe and the way they "work together" as one Country and they way they live.

y Chile (17,1), el otro país latinoamericano encuestado.

The article then states that among Latin American countries, only Chile and Venezuela were measured. Now that wouldn't be fair, would it?

No, really, I understand that several of the proudest nationalities are here in Latin America. They should have at least included the region's most populated countries to really get an idea.

And I would dare to say that most of the countries in the region would come away as more patriotic than Argentines are, even if popular legend says otherwise!

I think Brazilians, Chileans, Peruvians, and Mexicans are far more nationalistic for sure. You seldom hear them talk bad about their country overseas, whereas Argentines dish out the dirty laundry all over the place: when they travel and talk to others, in the tv shows (about the struggles of the middle class instead of soaps all about the rich and well off), in the movies (ditto), music lyrics, etc.

A reason why in most of the world people know so much about the bad stuff in the country.

What a load of crap!

People are proud of their countries for different reasons and express this pride in different ways. Some countries are bold and loud, some are modest.

Pure garbage! I can't believe good money was wasted on that.

Interesting to note that these countries at the top of the list tend to be relatively new nations with a definable "birth". Even Austria falls partially into that category.

But to answer why European nations might not be overtly patriotic or nationalistic, it's going to vary by country. The fear of nationalism argument due to WWII really only applies to one country. Generally, perhaps we're just more content within ourselves and don't need to shout about why it is that any of our nations are inherently superior simply due to the fact that we live in them.

Or as someone once said, the Americans will tell the world that they're the best, the British will keep quiet, because they know that they're the best.  Wink
