Best Places For Honeymoons?

Tue Mar 07, 2006 10:27 am

So my friends have just gotten engaged, and I, being interested in travel, want to help them decide where they should go. They speak French and Spanish so, language won't be that big of a problem. The wedding will occur after graduation from college, so no real income will be available yet. My pick would be Hawaii or St. Maarten.

Not an issue, beds are easy to find.

I really dont know how much money you have because Hawaii is not very cheap but Bora Bora is a much better coise in my opinion, but it is more expensive.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Newark, NJ, EWR, The Garden State. New Jersey all the way!

(And stop by my home town while they're at it and I'll take them on a romantic tree-spotting and deer-viewing expedition!)

Well, you could do the stereotypical American honeymoon in Hawaii, but if your friends have a taste for more exotic travel, send them to the Middle East, or some country in the Pacific Rim...Thailand/Indonesia come to mind.

The Best place would be Hawaii, the worst would be Beirut in the 1980's.

No money? hmmm...a Nice B&B in a small quaint town on the Atlantic Coast would be good. Not exotic but memorable and someplace they can go back to often.

Unless they go someplace that doesn't speak French or Spanish.

But I will suggest a part of France that is not so touched by tourists but very nice. Cape D'Agde. About 45 minutes west of Montpellier (closer to Bezier). The quiet little city is on the Med, great seafood, hotels, B&B type places, rental condos and they speak French and there are many Spanish speakers too (2 hour drive from Spain).

Of course another cheap one is the Yucatan. Closer, cheaper and common for honeymoons.

My wife and I did our honeymoon in Hong Kong. But that is a pricey one even for 4 nights.

My advice would be Can Cun, its cheaper than Hawaii (and better if you live near the east coast, less flying time, great beaches, not very expensive, and if they want to get pampered, they can go to Maroma Beach like a 60 kilometers south of can cun (voted 2005 best beach in the world!)

Then Mexico is a good option. Besides CUN, which is a great honeymoon spot, they could travel to other beach destinations such as Puerto Vallarta, Huatulco or Los Cabos. If they want to try something different, the prehispanic ruins are a must see in Central Mexico (Teotihuacan) and the south (Palenque, Uxmal). Furthermore, the old Mexican cities such as Guanajuato, Morelia or Zacatecas are cool options too.

I guess the tickets from the US would be pretty expensive, but no doubt about it, Namibia is awesome.

Beirut these days looks like a pretty nice place to visit, particularly once the new ski resort is finished. Queue the BA post  Silly

Definately a good choice. Try The Oxford in Provincetown, MA. Niagara Falls is also a great fall back, or head up the road to Niagara on the Lake

Actually, I think the best honeymoon spot in Mexico would be Ixtapa. Not overrun, lots to do, beautiful setting. It is the Maui of Mexico

I think Niagara/Hawaii etc are a bit too cliched to be considered as a real honeymoon destination. Go somewhere that won't have 30 other honeymoon couples on the same flight, and 200 others in the same hotel all vying for the same things.

There are six ski resorts in Lebanon.

There are two more under construction, Ehden 3000 and Sannine Zenith.

Sannine Zenith is going to be a gigantic ski resort and will take 15 years to complete.

http://www.sanninezenith.com

It will be just an hour drive from Beirut.

And Beirut is a very good place to honeymoon. I'd recommend staying in either the InterContinental Phoenicia hotel or the Movenpick resort.

The Movenpick is probably more romantic as the Phoenicia is a big business hotel.

Niagara is so cliche as a honeymoon destination, but it has total kitsch value that few places have. Plus it is a little more than an hours drive to Toronto... a big city with plenty of things to do.

Not knowing what type of people your friends makes this difficult. Personally getting a place somewhere in the outer banks of North Carolina sounds about right. Still generally undisturbed and not overrun with tacky boardwalks and beachside shops. Someplace quiet and away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

And I like the idea of going somewhere on Cape Cod... even better if it is summertime. Winter would be a rather harsh time to be out there.

If you want some lovely beaches, I'd recommend the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. The best part is during the sunset, they can be stunning.  Smile

If they were to go to places where no French or Spanish is spoken, and if your friends were looking for something romantic I'd definitely recommend Vienna, Salzburg, Venice or Rome. I've been to the latter three of the cities mentioned and I can only say those places are a must!  Smile

Actually, I really like P-town in the Winter. My girlfriend and I went there a few months ago and had a great time. It is a lot cheaper (think half price) and quiet. The one problem is that things close really early, if they are open at all. Still, great place to spend a couple of days (and nights  wink  )

Quoting DesertJets (Reply 18):
Niagara is so cliche as a honeymoon destination, but it has total kitsch value that few places have.

The kitsch is really limited to Lundy's Lane. Clifton Hill is a mix of kitsch and class and Fallsview is really classy.

And only 30 minutes from...Buffalo  Silly. Actually, Niagara Region really has a lot to offer with Niagara Falls, Niagara on the Lake (as my girlfriend says "the lubricant for the machine that is a woman"), Pt. Dalhausie, St. Catharine's and the wineries.
