I can't even open the closet door where the vacuum cleaner is stored without my pussy running to hide.

Anything, our family's cat freaks out at the slightest sound, sudden movement, and will growl at anyone not myself, my mom or my step-dad. The worst is clanging dishes or a hair-dryer. Not water, though, she'll jump in a bath/shower whilst someone's inside.

For my dog its gunshots and the coffee table. The gunshots are fairly obvious, but not desirable for a bird-dog. But the coffee table is quite funny. She will be laying next to it, and Ill move the table slightly. She thinks its coming after her, will bark at it etc. Then Ill move it away from her and she tries to attack it. Its really something to see. I should video it sometime and share.

My cats were afraid of the sponge mop. Absolutely terrified. They were fearless with almost everthing else. I could run the roaring vacuum cleaner into them and they totally ignored it. But the sponge on the mop made them crazy, they hissed and slapped it with their paws, but only when the mop was moving. They never figured out that it was me who made the mop move, they thought it was moving by itself.

Our old dog was terrified by running water, get out the garden hose and she'd run for the door. Strange thing was that she was a lab mix. I thought all labs loved the water.

My dog is afraid of the toaster, oven, cellophane, and balls. Sometimes, though, he'll skitter away for no apparent reason.

I'm afraid of the toaster! No joke. My stupid toaster makes a sound like a gunshot when it lifts the toast up. It always makes me jump. I usually go into the bedroom and close the door to muffle the sound so I don't jump.

Our Golden Retriever, Lily is not afraid of anything so far. In fact she enjoys being vacuumed! Yes I know almost every other dog I have ever had runs from the vacuum, Lily will both follow you as you vacuum she will also sit and expect you to vacuum her all over with the attachments.

My Cat is afraid of:
Snow.
Loud Noises.
Anything that stares at her.
Things that move quickly.
Wind (or things that blow).
Blankets moving.
Christmas trees and ornaments.

Strange though, that she is not afraid when our car comes roaring up the driveway. She just sit there, and watches us, then when we stop, she starts to roll around. She is also not afraid of people at all. Nor is she afraid of the kitchen stove, learned the hard way with that one...

My dogs are afraid of fireworks. On the 4th of July (you Brits call it Thanksgiving) we were setting some fireworks off in the street. When we went back inside we couldn't find the dogs anywhere. We searched and searched and after about 30 minutes found them huddle under my BBQ smoker rig on the back deck that we had walked by a couple of times.

Most of my cats are afraid of the vacuum cleaner and thunder, but what scares them out of their wits is bloody fireworks. I HATE fireworks.

One notable exception on the vacuum cleaner is my black cat, I have on occasion sucked his tail into the pipe, because he will not give up his spot for the advancing vacuum cleaner. Fortunately it is only a hose with no moving parts. Strange thing is, he is probably the most afraid of thunder and fireworks of all my cats.

My rabbit is fairly fearless - he scares next doors cats rather than it being the other way round!

Though he doesn't like metallic noises, like the sound of pans on our gas hob. You can see him go tense and alert.

The two youngest of my mom's dachshunds (she has 3) has some pretty funky fear. One is afraid of snow - if there's snow on the ground when they're let out in the morning, you can count on her to make a 180 degree turn the moment one paw touches the snow. And the other one refuses to go for a walk without the oldest dog (his mother) - and that's despite he's the largest one of them all, by far Big grin

He also dislikes a bath but loves a garden hose.
And having his paws touched , i do that when he pisses me off i dont see him for hours.

My dog is one of the most level headed dogs I've ever met. Even before he lost his hearing and sight, nothing really seemed to bother him. He just does not like it when people leave him alone (he's only allowed in the back half of my dad's house).

The cat, on the other hand, does not like strange people, tools, the vacuum, lound noises, or squeaky toys among other things.

For my dog: the vacuum cleaner/dust buster, cell phone ringers, my model planes, her reflection in a mirror, and I'm sure there's more, but I had a long day at work yesterday, and my brain is fried. Oh, and among her quirks....we have yet to find a food that she doesn't like...

My cats are afraid of dark dress socks, when they are left balled up on the floor. They arch, puff up, approach slowly and attack.

Maybe I should use foot powder.

We've only had our 5 yr old golden for 2 weeks..the only thing he seems to be afraid of that I've noticed, is our 30gal plastic trash barrels. A Sunday night
ritual is putting them out for pick up. And the noise they make when dragging them around freaks him out. Last night after work, I brought them into the garage and he went running to hide.

There's just one thing our dogs are afraid of and that's snakes. We had a King Cobra sneak into our garden when they were about 3 months old. Because of that, they're terrified when they see a hosepipe while we're watering the garden.

My dog is the best guard dog ever. If the kids are on the backyard, she watches over them. Guards the house really well. She has killed, by a single bite, squirrels, rats, frogs, moles, etc. After she killed an adult squirrel, you could immediately see the other ones 'respect' her and never get close to her. She has scared the beejezus out of a 60 lbs racoon (put her in the garage to allow the racoon to come down the tree), Grabbed the same possum twice. Fought all the neighbor dogs that didnt give her alpha status. Tried to jump into a 4x4 truck when a dog inside barked at her, etc.

Everybody who meets her thinks shes just a sweetie, she loves people and craves their attention. Whiniest dog ever, will only stop whining if eating or getting petted. Loves our little cat.

What is my dog afraid of? Anything electronic. Cant get anything like a telephone close to her, shell freak out. Put a halloween mask on, shell about pee herself. The first time she saw Xmas cut out figures, she barked and then had to go around them. If you ever met her, youll never believe shes a 'killer dog'.

Rocking chairs! Cats are afraid of rocking chairs. At least mine were.

Cats normally jump up on every single object in the house that can be jumped on: chairs, sofas, beds, window sills, tables, kitchen and bathroom counters, boxes, desks, computers, printers, televisions, bookcases, etc. etc.

But my cats never jumped on a rocking chair. If I put them on the rocking chair they leaped off in less that one second.

I once saw a cartoon captioned "A Cats Concept of Hell" and the picture showed a cat looking into a room full of rocking chairs. The point is that a cat would normally be in heaven to have a room full of things to jump on, but it turns to hell when the only chairs are rocking chairs.

Here are some possible universal things that pets are afraid of:

1. Vacuum cleaner (usually when turned on).

2. Having their tails stepped on.

3. Being abandoned for a Version 2.0 (cuter puppy or kitty).
