Stupid Thread:Have You Recieved The Wrong Mail?

Fri Mar 10, 2006 6:48 pm

This morning I was pleasantly surprised to find a letter that was supposed to be to someone in London, so not only did the ROyal Mail manage to send it to the wrong address, they sent it to the wrong country!
Has this ever happened to you?

Not to the wrong country, but wrong address heaps of times. My street and another street just 1 minute down the road, sound the same but 3 out of 8 letters are different

We get next doors occasionally, and a near by street with a similar name. Never anything bound for London, though!

No, but some critical DHL documents I was waiting for once went to the house two doors down from where I lived and the dumb cunt neighbor instead of recognizing it wasn't for her, simply threw it away instead of walking up the street.

Yes, about once a month. Yesterday we recieved a Toronto Life magazine with an eatery guide. It was addressed to the person on the opposite street to our's but the same house number. I opened it anyway since I wanted to read the magazine and guide. If it was a regular envelope I would have dropped it off at the correct house.

Well, with a name like SMITH! I could do a stand up routine on incorrectly delivered mail..... not to mention phone calls!

As a kid I lived on a very short street.... with 3 SMITH families. Addressed; #2, #5, and #25..... after the mail was delivered for the day there was a virtual walk about of re-delivery of the mail.

Than under the category of "you couldn't make this up!" while living on another relatively short street in SOHO in NYC.... There were three of us with the same name..... first and last! In 17 yrs I never met any of the others... we just returned it with an address correction..... BUT we did speak to each other on the phone and got each others calls from : boyfriends, creditors, out of town family, etc..... on one occasion I got a call from the "Houston Chronicle" (very SNL), "Do you know Bob Cohen? He's wanted for murder!", "Yeah", I responded,"I do. But everyone knows a Bob Cohen in NYC. MY Bob Cohen would never kill anyone...... try the other two Lynda Smiths on Mercer St......"

Then wouldn't you know? My current address was formerly lived in by a SMITH..... I actually have a list of NOT ME Smiths taped to the inside of my mail box for the post person.

We're constantly getting mail meant for the neighbors on either side, and they're getting our mail too. We've gotten in the habit of bringing the misdirected items to the correct mailboxes. This situation has been going on for at least three years. As far as I can tell, the problem happens when the regular mailman has a day off.

I love the mail I still get after many moves addressed to my uncle, who passed away in 1985! How often do some of these places update their mailing lists?

We once got mail for a house with the same adress as us but one street over. And we are still getting mail for people before the people we bought the house from.

I keep getting doctor's bills addressed to the former owner of my house. He was foreclosed upon in 1992 and then I bought it. They're not old bills for services rendered prior to 1992. They're for recent visits. The latest was on February 23rd, 2006. I've called the doctor's office dozens of times and they still haven't straightened it out.

My folks live on 136 acres behind another fellow's property, but his house is a mile closer to the main road than theirs. Ergo, FedEx/UPS/DHL frequently take the "close enough" attitude and deliver to the neighbor. He's a retired Professor of Medeival English History from Univ of Texas (t.u.) and is quite eccentric. He can't figure out why people keep sending him clothes too small...

Yesterday, I found my Autoweek magazine tucked in my apartment doorknob. Apparently they placed into my neighbor's (next apartment number) mailbox for my building. Glad I have honest neighbors.

All the time; our post box is 3348 and we get lots of mail for 3448.

I can usually tell if its not ours as soon as it comes out of the box, you can normally tell what letters; bills and magazines you receive on a monthly basis.
