Problem With My Printer, Can Anyone Help?

Sun Mar 12, 2006 7:23 am

I have a Lexmark 1180 All-In-One printer/scanner. I recently changed a cartridge, but since I did that, it won't work. When I turn it on, it will make the usual noise, as if it's resetting itself, but will continue for a short while, then the power button will flash. I've tried using the online help guide, but it didn't help me. Has anyone else had this problem or can help me, as I need to print out things soon. Sorry to sound vague, but I'm not exactly technically minded.

my Lexmark did the same type of thing..

I found it easier to go get a new printer, when they start to crap out 99% of the time it's not worth the headache to fix it.

Try changing to the old (empty) cartridge. Will it work - printing badly but at least "something", being an empty cartridge - or does it still fail to work?

It could be a bad cartridge. Or maybe it's mis-placed. Or you failed to remove the plastic protection things on it.

Do the cartridges have circuitry on them? If so, its possible it got damaged at some point. If you printer will print with an empty/low cartridge (my HP9110 won't), try ManuCH's suggestion. If it works, culprit is likely the new cartridge and will likely be fixed by 'another' new cartridge.

Make certain you have replaced BOTH cartridges, since this is probably a color printer. At the same time, in printer properties or the printer program, there should be a print alignment command or a clean cartridge command. Those should do the trick.

I've tried everything with the cartridges, taking them out and turning the printer on, only have one in etc.

You should have utilities that allow you to align or clean your cartridges.

What does a flashing power button mean on this model? I know on my old Lexmark all-in-one it meant it was offline. Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling the software? That used to help with mine when it used to throw a wobbly.

You could maybe try Google? Lots of forums about that may be of use. I'm afraid I'm at a loss as to what could be the problem without seeing it. Have you tried a hammer yet??

Try printing a test page. Hold the paper feed AND power button at the same time for about five seconds. Then tell me what happens.

Okay. Now completely uninstall the printer, restart your computer and let it "find new hardware." Install it again.

"PC Load Letter"? What the fuck does that mean?

I used to own a Lexmark until I got tired of shelling out $50+ for new cartridges. Plus I was hardly using the scanner/copier function anyway. I got a new printer (one that takes up less than half the space of my old one) for less than the price to replace both cartridges on my old Lexmark.

I've re-installed it, but the same thing keeps happening to the actual printer.

Well then, this is just absolutely bizarre. I've never had problems this excessive with my own Lexmark, even though they are a problem child printer assortment.

I wonder if there is a driver that you need to download from the Lexmark website.

Time to call up a computer store, if you ask me.

Theres your problem. Lexmark=shit quality 99.89856745% of the time. I've owned 2, both crapped out within the first months, never worked consistantly, etc.

I've owned one, and the only reason why I quit using it was because I could buy a brand new printer for the price of the ink for my Lexmark printer. The ink for the Canon printer I have now costs as much for both cartridges as it did for one Lexmark one.
