North Korea. Your View?

Mon Mar 13, 2006 5:41 am

Hello ladies and Gents  Smile

Well, a while back (possibly a year or 2 ago) people were saying N. Korea was going to fall, well, here we are, and the communists are still at large (as it were).
So, what will become of N.Korea ?, will they cave in soon, or do you think they will continue on ?
On a recent trip report I read, everything is old and tatty, lots of propaganda (did I spell that right ?) everywhere and well, just like a communist country.
I mean, N.Korea is realy the only 'true' communist country left. Why do they continue on ?

Also, do you think N.Korea are still a big threat ?

P.S- No offense is meant to the people of Korea.
PPS- Has anyone tried to cross the DMZ/Boarder

I believe North Korea is a threat to develop nuclear weapons that could be sold to terrorists. Another likely possibility is to take said nukes and lob them over towards Japan.

The Evil Gargoyle wants to talk only with the US versus the 7 party talks so he can try to gain concessions from us in money, food, etc. and then make the ridiculous claim that he conquered the Evil Staan of the USA. Eventually the state will collapse upon itself as the sham it is but hopefully it won't lead to nuclear material making their way to folks not so kind to the US or allied countries.

Absolutle power corrupts absolutlely. The Evil Gargoyle doesn't want to give up power. Who knows what will happen though. He has a country full of starving people and perhaps one day they will rise up. I'm surprised there hasn't been a revolt amongst the military and subsequent coup given they can't be in the best shape themselves.

It's a country of brainwashed people that know no different.

Their leader is found on a box of Cocoa Puffs.

Let's be honest here; after the Iraq WMD debacle the US is going to think damn long and damn hard before performing any more "regime change." So opinion becomes menaingless only pure facts on the ground. Lastly there is not much the US can do about NK right now as the US military is pretty overstretched right now as it is. I would imagine that if the US did go in NK a certain comical head of state in Iran might start acting up more in the knowledge that there was little the US could do about it. At that point it becomes a who's a more dangerous than who toss up. 2c over.

This is the problem, the people are brainwahsed and they are all lead by some nutcase. So they don't know what the free world is, they think America and the rest of the free world is pure evil, I doubt the vast majority of the population know what a mobile phone, computer or CD player is.

1) Question: Do you beleive the U.S military need to remain in S.korea ?

2)Should Korea be united ?

My view ?
1) The U.S military should down size in Korea, but not leave
2)They should stay separeate untill it colapses, if Korea becomes one, whats not to say KIM-what-ever-his-name-is 2 would take over, he will want his cake and want to eat it. He won't be pleased with a united Korea without him incharge. I disagree to those freedom nutcases who think the world is fine and dandy, and want Korea as 1. It's simple IMO, wait 'till the North falls.

The best practical joke the US could play on Kim Jung Ill is to suddenly pull back all the US troops from the DMZ by 20 km.

The North Korean soldiers would be panicking as to why the US troops are pulling back.

North Korea is best dealt with by containment. Their complete lack of natural resources makes it very difficult for them to sustain any sort of offensive military action without China's help.

While I have no doubt that they could cross over into SKorea, I don't think they could hold it. The danger NK poses comes from the fact that their leader is crazy and desparate. Desparate people can do desparate things.

If we push NK too hard and they end up with nothing to lose, they may just act that way and lob whatever weapons they have to SK and Japan in an effort to spark a response that would drag the rest of the world into the mix.

My biggest worry is that China sit by while NK create all sorts of problems and when it does, it capitalizes on the opportunity in an effort to seize Taiwan.

Seoul is what, 45 miles from the DMZ? I too doubt they could sustain an attack but I think they could roll into Seoul quite quickly and cause a lot of havoc. Could get real interesting real quick if that happened.

China has been rattling that saber a bit more lately too. Lots of interesting scenarios that could be played out soon enough.

I'm really surprised that they didn't move when we look Iraq. There is nothing that we can do to stop them and the public won't stand for more Americans dying on foreign soil.

I think that China may be looking @ Siberia and it's oil as well.

Seoul is currently well within range of artillery from the NK side of the DMZ, they can literally destroy it using conventional arms without ever setting foot in SK.
