If you would give to me your account number and personal information, I will deposit into your account $500,000 (USD) which I received in confidence from a Mr. Bill Gates with which you could hire a contractor to code an anti-spam software for sales on the Globals world market. Big grin

Seriously, I use a cheap piece of software called Spam Bully that does an amazing job of catching SPAM. What I really like about it is the ability to configure it to 'punish' spammers by sending back what look like server reject messages. You can configure it to send the rejects back multiple times even. I've seen my incoming spam drop about 20%, and the rest is diverted into a junk folder so I don't ever see it (if I don't want to).

I get one or two of those type emails everyday.
Some email programs are better about filtering out the junk and spam as well, so maybe you should think about switching programs or utilizing some of the features on your existing browser.
Mozilla Thunderbird and Netscape programs are better than some versions of Outlook.

Sure, we're concerned for our lives. Just not as concerned as saving 9 bucks on a roundtrip to Ft. Myers.

You could bait him/her/it. Search 'scambaiting' for appropriate sites that love these guys.

I like it a lot. It basically supplants Outlook or Outlook Express's filter function. You can use it at any number levels, from just a simple spam blocker to a full fledged positive-verification filter. And they let you try it for free:

LOL! since when has a yahoo email address been confidential??

btw I have gotten a very similar email about a year ago. It also seems to fit more to the date when Togos president died, because if you click the bbc link which is provided, you can see that he died early 2005

Gassing edema? I know what that is! That's what the blisters are called when you're a victim of mustard gas.

You can do a lot with the OE message rules function. I've got it set up and it automatically dumps about 75 per cent of the spam that comes through here.

I have to take cases of e-mail abuse and I can tell you that mails like the one posted are many times sent through e-mail addresses that are not forged.

Many spammers have the habit of forging the origin of the e-mail, by modifying the full message header, making it look like it came from different address. There are programmes out, with which they can send such messages without getting traced. However, IP addresses cannot be forged and in cases of forged message headers and addresses, you can still trace them back through the IP address. This will allow you to contact the ISP, so their internet access can be shut down for a TOS violation.

In the case of Hotmail address, check the message header for two lines: X-Originating IP and X-Originating E-mail. If a spam message, that appears to be from Hotmail, has these two lines in the message headers, then it's very likely the mail did come from a Hotmail address. In that case, you can forward the e-mail with the full message headers to abuse@hotmail.com, so they can shut down the address.

Spam filters are in the end never fool proof. If you know how to trace IP address and read the message headers for their origin, report the e-mail and at least you can continue to help the fight against spam, by helping ISPs and e-mail providers detect such terms of service violations.
