My Furnace Is Dead.

Wed Mar 15, 2006 1:07 am

Well, my furnace is shot. Why does this always happen in the winter?  Smile

So I have a bunch of furnace salesmen descending upon me like wolves on a bag of hamburger. Anyone know how much a furnace is?

Uh-oh, looks like you might have to clean a few extra printers this week.

Wow, they let you use the computer again there at Camp Harris? It must suck to have to work under close supervision. Personally, my boss lives and works in Rhode Island...

We use the term 'Furnace' for heating equipment in the USA. If your furnace is fueled by Natural Gas, check your utility-supplier for possible energy efficiency rebates. They are to encourage you to buy the highest efficency units available to offset the additional costs of them and to reduce energy demand. Even if it is oil or propane, go for the highest efficeincy unit you can afford as it will save you money in the long run and improve the resale value of your house. Weil-McClain (I hope that name is right) is one of the leading makers of high efficiency units.

I bought one for about $600. I installed it myself, so I don't know how much labor would be.

LHMark,

Depending on the size of your home, about $2500-$3000. This does not include Central Air. I put a 94% efficient 50K BTU, 12 Ton of cooling in my house for about $1200.00. Of course I work in the industry, so I got some deals. Let me know how you make out. Best of Luck

Are you sure it's the furnace? Check the control cable - I had a short in mine so it wouldn't activate the furnace. Saved me thousands of dollars.

It's Spring now, so your troubles are over.  Wink

My father just replaced his and it set him back $2,700.00 CDN. This did include a chimney liner as a new code had been enforced since his last replacement furnace 9 years ago.

I won't get into why his last unit only survived 9 years. THe furnace previous to that lasted him almost 28 years.
