The Best Song Of All Time

Thu Mar 16, 2006 3:07 pm

What do you think the best song of all time is? By "best", i dont mean just your favorite, I mean what you actually feel is genuinely #1 artistically speaking. I'm going to cop out and go with two because I really can't decide: Freebird (Lynard Skynard) and Desperado (Eagles). I like mostly new music, but they just don't make em like that anymore. I don't think I've heard better guitar than Freebird, and Desperado is just epic in its own right.

Well I am going to laughed off this site, but my all-time favourite is the Hollywood musical classic: 'Ol' Man River' from Showboat (as well as the Sinatra version). The song has stayed in my memory since I was a young, spotty teenager. The feeling and rhythm that you can feel from the original - it starts me off in tears!!

Just imagine any of today's pop singer's attempting the song, with their computer-programmed keyboards. Even Elton John would make it sound awful (just like he did when he tried to sing the Bing Crosby classic, True Love).

God this is a hard topic. I can't pick one, so I'll name a bunch:

60s/70s Rock:
"Stairway to Heaven" - Led Zeppelin
"Come Together" - Beatles
"Bohemian Rhapsody" - Queen

80s Rock:
"Paradise City" - Guns n Roses
"Back In Black" - ACDC

90s Rock:
"Black Hole Sun" - Soundgarden

Classical:
"Emperor Concerto" - Beethoven
"New World Symphony" - Dvorjak

I'm also quite partial to Bohemian Rhapsody. "November Rain" by Guns n' Roses comes to mind as well.

GREAT JAM! Was singing it to myself at work once and offend an older African-American couple who heard me singing it and they complained to management. They thought I was being racist, as opposed to just having a great song stuck in my head.

My personal vote goes to: "Donna The Prima Donna" by Dion DiMucci. Not the greatest song or melody or anything but if I hear it it's stuck in my head for a week. So, if that doesn''t qualify I don't know what does.

that is a great song. if this was a theater only list, that song would probably be up there right towards the top. 'If I Were A Rich Man' might be the one to knock it down a notch or two.
