Here's One For The Brits Among Us...

Fri Mar 17, 2006 5:41 am

Here's a chap quite disgusted with his country, because they can't seem to do better by him !

Ah. Another Sun hatchet job.  Yeah sure

I'll bet they never told him this was the angle of the story when they interviewed him.

People like that are hard to have much sympathy for, but the Sun is not exactly renowned for presenting all sides, is it?

Not at all. The article as written makes it impossible to have anything but contempt for him. The trouble is that the Sun is superb at presenting an entirely one-sided article precisely to provoke exactly the reaction that we see on this thread.

Whatever the truth of the matter, I certainly wouldn't take the Sun's word for it.

I have to agree, but even with the Sun's well known bias toward the theatrical, this chap has to be a class one knob! I cannot see any good reason why any council should house this bloke any better than he is already housed.

The mess he finds himself in is entirely his own and therefore he should not expect the British taxpayer to bail him out.

Incidentally, I rarely read the Sun or any other newspaper. I've got to the stage now where my twisted, cynical mind sees only self promoting "celebreties" and crooked politicians featuring therein. Stories like this, for wahtever reason they are published, are typical of the tripe that is "news" these days.

Incidentally, did you notice the age of his two doxy's? He's nearly 50 and they are in their 20's - dirty old sod!! Or should that be lucky old sod? Big grin

Banco's right in what he says about the way The Sun has presented this 'story'.

So let's take it a bit further... he has worked in the past, and let's take it he has paid his taxes. There's no reason to believe he hasn't.

Now he doesn't work (we don't know whether it's a case of... he can't work / he would like to, but hasn't been successful in his job search / he doesn't want to work...), why shouldn't he receive benefits from the state? After all he's paid his taxes.
There appears to be a work ethic in the house - his wife works, and he has work history.

So if there is a problem, it's the system, not the person.

One last point... I wonder how much The Sun paid him for that bit of knocking copy they wrote on him?
I don't like signatures...

He may have paid in taxes, but is he withdrawing more than he paid in? Is he entitled to withdraw more than he paid in? If so, then it stands to reason that every other citizen can draw as much as they can manage in benefits. So, work for a week, and be set for life. Maybe I will immigrate.

Actually, I posted this to "tease" our Overseas Cousins a bit; as I have noted some of them are kind enough to instruct us on proper government, etc.

Did anyone happen to notice the caravan parked in this gentleman's driveway?
(We call them campers or RVs on this side of the pond.)

If he bought it used, it should have set him back a good $15,000 US; if new, at least $ 60,000 US. (We just sold our 6 year old, slightly "roughed up" camper for $11,500 a few months ago .)

I would guess this man is "gaming the system" a bit.  Smile  Smile

What would suggest? Enforced sterilisation? In a free society, people are able to do this.

Quoting Skidmarks (Reply 11):

No, but it isn't about him. It's about the children. If you have a society where the state wishes to ensure that children don't grow up in abject poverty, you are always going to have circumstances where people can take the piss. It isn't easy to manage this. What would people prefer? Occasional items like this, or lots of children living in slums?

Quoting Diesel1 (Reply 15):
Now he doesn't work (we don't know whether it's a case of... he can't work / he would like to, but hasn't been successful in his job search / he doesn't want to work...),

And here is a fundamental flaw in the system. Once people are reliant on benefits, it's extremely difficult to get out of it, because they can never earn enough to end up better off working. This has improved over the last few years, for certain, but it isn't perfect.

It's quite possible that this man is nothing but a scrounger. But it's equally possible that he isn't.

Incidentally, I've been out of work in the past, and reliant on the dole for a time. Any belief that the state just gives out money left, right and centre is so far from the truth as to be ludicrous. Getting a penny out of them was very, very hard - and I really have paid in a bloody fortune in taxes.

Quoting Lowrider (Reply 16):

Since when has it been calculated on such a basis? All taxes are spent unequally. Those of us that live in England subsidise the rest of the UK. Should we rail against the others for taking out more than they put it?

Quoting Mrmeangenes (Reply 17):
as I have noted some of them are kind enough to instruct us on proper government, etc.

The difference is that we discuss the issue at hand, rather than going on a rant about how you're anti-British, and how dare you even mention what goes on here.

I have to agree with that part of your statement Banco. I have been out of work for 8 months during the last 36 years and, because I get a pension from the MOD I am unable to claim unemployment benefit, get reduced sickness benefit and no housing benefit (should I need it).

I pay, like many others, a small fortune in National Insurance and it grips my shit that I am unable to benefit from this. However, as you say, it isn't that easy to get the benefits that are being talked of here. Either this guy is a damn good liar or he has a genuine need, in which case he is entitled to what he gets.

But the fact remains that he continues to procreate while in his current situation, which means he gets more in benefits and has even less incentive to return to work. This is the fact I find slightly unpalateable. If he is so desparate, why the hell is he continuing to add to his family?

I am suggesting that maybe there should be a limit to what he can withdraw and the flaw in the thinking that, since he did pay some taxes, he was entitled to as much as he wanted. The article made it seem as if he felt entitled to a bigger house. Shouldn't housing needs and financial situation figure into family planning?

Here's a thought: HM Government could recoup some of its cost by putting the rascal out to stud.

Yes, I can see he's ewe-g-ly (3 barf bags worse than ugly) , but, if he's charming the knickers of 3 women now-warts and all-he must have something going for him that drives the ladies ga-ga.

These days (I hope you are taking notes here !) large numbers of wymyn are opting for "single parenthood" and/or "alternative parenthood" (as in "Sally has two Moms"), and the services of a reliable sperm donor might be in considerable demand: a national resource, if you will.

THAT sounds as if his "lifestyle" is a profitable venture ! and the U.K. apparently is an extremely generous country. It is, depending on the exact calculation, roughly twice what he would get elsewhere.
-
But, in order to get some money back, the U.K. should, just as zoological gardens do, "lend" him to European countries complaining about not enough children and "gender gap" and problems with lack of young people, against decent payment of course. HE then would help to solve the problem. He of course ought to get a full salary, so that he is NOT kept off from using his "qualities" !

This guy complains about how small his house is, well, perhaps he should try and get a job, wether it be road sweeping or being in the army or whatever., instead of spounging off the system.
Nobody forced him to have so many childeren did they, and if I read it correctly, most of them don't live their.
He said his kids come to him, how about he goes to the kids !, or perhaps for some money he could get a job and sell the caravan ?
