Patriots Kicker, Adam Vinatieri Signs W/the Colts

Thu Mar 23, 2006 12:28 am

Very disappointing news for Patriots fans:

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/5432216

Looks like Belichick is being Penny Wise/Dollar Foolish in letting Vinatieri become a free agent.

This decision could haunt him (Belichick) early next year should the Patriots face off the Colts in next years' AFC Championship Playoffs (provided that they both make it that far).

One needs to keep in mind that it was Vinatieri's 11th hour field goals that won 2 Super Bowls & the point-difference in last year's Super Bowl between the Patriots & Eagles was only by a 3-point field goal.

Not to mention that Indy's kicker screwed the pooch and let the Steelers go to the Superbowl

All the more reason why Vinatieri's signing w/the Colts is good news for them, bad news for New England. He's replacing their chink in the armor so to speak.

Too little too late. The "chink" is no longer the kicking game. The team is aging, the window is rapidly closing to win if it isn't shut already. And now besides a kicker, the Colts need a big time running back to replace James. I'd be more worried about that than the kicking game at this point.

Here in NE, we have a saying: "In Bill We Trust." Many people are questioning this move, or lack thereof, but the fact is, the Patriots will not overpay for players. It is this philosphy that created the dynasty that thay held for several years. Time will tell if this is to continue, or whether their philosophy back-fires eventually.

Vinatieri is no doubt one of the most clutch kickers ever in the NFL. I'm sure Belichick knows more than we do about this than we do, so I, for one, will give him the benefit of the doubt.

One thing, though: If they bring Vanderjerk here, I will be pissed.

   You & me both.

He could be to the Pats what T.O. was to the Eagles.

Add to that the fact that Peyton "The Second Coming of Christ" Manning can't win the big game. Sure they had a great record, sure he owns the TD record now, yada, yada, yada. He did the same thing in college by winning lots of games but never beating Florida in 4 years and thus never getting an SEC title. His "aw shucks" attitude is really annoying and I love to see him lose. Nothing against the Colts but may they continue to fall short in the big games as long as Manning is there.

Let's go Dolphins!

If I remember when watching " American Football " the kicker just comes on to kick the ball over the bar and does not get involved in the rough and tumble. Well if that is so, we here in the UK have a rugby union player who is a great kicker, but seems to be unable to stay uninjured in the games rough and tumble .
If any team interested Johnny Wilkenson is his name and he plays for Newcastle and sometimes England injuries allowing  twocents

Actually over the years, a number of kickers in the NFL were very good soccer players in high school either in the USA or in Europe (Janikowski of the Oakland Raiders is a good example, but for his off-field Vodka swilling induced stupidity). At least one NFL kicker palyed Australian Rules Football (kinda like Rugby), so your idea may not be a bad one.
