Work Advice: Stay Or Go?

Fri Mar 24, 2006 2:39 am

I know this is a personal decition, but im so confused and have such a huge stress headache - i just wanted to get some random thoughts about this from u guys.

I have been working for Company A for 8 years (since college). Yesterday i got a job offer with Company B with a nice $$ increment. I submitted my resignation letter today to Company A. They are talking to HR this very second to see how much higher than Company B they can go - but my boss promises at least a match in salaries.

Work enviroment - there are good and bad qualities about companies - prob woth Company B i would have a more clear carrer path. Company A things would be pretty much the remain the same regardless of all the verbal promises.

I guess i'll wait to see what they offer. But the question is.. i pretty much accepted the other position - if it comes to the punches can i tell them that i am not intersted anymore?

ARGGH!!!
Step into my office, baby

First of all, if you WANT to leave company A, do so. Would both companies be from the same industry? If so, who is the market leader? Is it like leaving Intel to go to AMD for instance? In my experience (which is not a whole lot), leaving for more $'s is not always the best move long term. But if company B has a good reputation for employee growth and development AND is offering more money then I would go for it. Especially if you know your current employer does not have a career advancement program.

Hope this helps, if even a tiny bit!

It sounds as if you are ready for a change. I say go for it- make that break. At the end of the day, you won't be financially comprimised, and if you didn't leave, you will always wonder what it would have been like and wonder if regret not taking the oppurtunity.

It's up to you at the end of the day- keep us posted!
