Who Is The Best Sportsman/woman According To You?

Sat Mar 25, 2006 9:00 am

Hi fellow a.netters,

Who do you think is the CURRENT best sportsman or sportswoman of the moment ? You don't necessarily have to like the that person but you certainly have a lot of respect for what he or her has achieved. The one peson you'd be ready to bet 1000 bucks for without a doubt

Concerning me, there's only one name I can say, not only because he's amazing sportsman but an amazing person too

Oh and I think he's one of the best in history as well

Barry Bonds..T.O..Not.
In Phoenix, Arizona, top sportsmans would have to go to Luis Gonzalez of the Diamondbacks (Baseball) and Steve Nash of the Suns (Basketball). Both do a decent job in the field and outstanding in the community.

As I always been involved in gymnastics, almost all my fav sportsmen/women are from gymnastics.
I choose Daniela Silivas from Romania, who performed at a superb level throughout her entire career from 1984 to 1989 (for a gymnast it is long!) but without winning a major world title due to controversial judgement.

Going back to recent Olympic winter games I've been very excited by the gold medal by Giorgio Di Centa in the 50 km cross country skiing, such a tough competition for real athletes.

Ciao

Antero Niittymaki.

In recent years the safest approach with Philadelphia goaltending has been to wait-and-see. I was on the fence about him for the better part of the season, but after 17 consequtive starts in December and his fantastic showing for Finland in the Winter Olympics, I honestly believe that he is one of the tops of his sport right now and I am very glad Philadelphia has him (and, of course, Forsberg, lol).

Well, I don't anyone is as dominating as Tiger Woods. Although I'm not his biggest fan, he's the athlete I simply MUST watch when he's in the hunt for a major.

hmmmm i think flintoff's one of the luckiest blokes in cricket!

its only been in the last year or so he's started to perform! before that he was given chance after chance! he'd smash about 30 runs in quicktime and then get out! i guess his bowling really carried him!

oh wait no.....i forget! sum how.......Christ only knows how! Ian Bell got an MBE for scoring about 15 runs!.......and he's still in the england side!

There you go mate, theres some cream cheese on it for ya too  Silly

In all honesty though, personally the best current athlete has to be Lance Armstrong.

Ask this again in a few years and I'll have to say Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals.

Can we go with NCAA athletes?
If so:
I'm going to have to go with Mandy Pennewell, a freshman guard for the Quinnipiac University womens b-ball team.

Yes, I did try to go out with her, but she "is taken" (don't know if I believe her or not)...either way, she is a great athlete and a great looker!

Personally, I think that we're gonna see Ovey get it because he just plays a much cooler-headed game. It's great to have passion and all, but I remember a point earlier this year when Crosby was not only leading in the G, A, and Pts, but also PIM.  banghead

You played against Phaneuf?! That. Is. Awesome! Lol. Please tell me your team won at least one of the games, lol. Also, just curious, but what position do/did you play?

Lol, tell me about it. The money would be nice, but I'm not sure I could cope with the lifestyle. Of course, if that's been your lifestyle all your life, well, there you go, lol.  Cool

ah man we beat them 3-1 and tied them 1-1, I actually almost got in a fight with phaneuf since my roll on the team was to cause shit out on the ice, a Jarkko Ruutu style you can say. I'm a winger, usually on the left side.

Hahaha. Of course, 50 years from now, when the grand kids are running around, you'll be telling them you scored the winning shootout goal after Phaneuf choked right before you...but only after you had beaten the s#!t outta him in the second period, lol.  wink

I might be slightly biased, but I think that NY Ranger's goalie Henrik Lundquist should be a serious candidate for the Calder trophy. He has set a new record for goalie wins during the rookie season and from what I have read in the newspapers, he has been playing well all season, taking the main goalie spot instead of Kevin Weekes.

Back to the original question, I must say that Peter Forsberg is one of my absolute favorites. Have not met him in person, but a friend of mine has, and apparently he is a really nice guy! Very down-to-earth in interwievs too I think.
