India Vs England Cricket Series Thread

Tue Mar 28, 2006 1:40 am

Well the ODI's are coming up, after a magnificent showing by a young England side in Mumbai

They have lost the tour match, but can India do it

They have been in extreme good touch in ODI's they have thrashed everyone apart from SA

What can they do against India

Predict your match results

To me it is 4-3 to England, not such a good supporter for India

Regards

My, you're pessimistic.

We'll get stuffed. England are hopeless at One Day cricket, which is useful, because hardly any English cricket fans give much of a stuff about the step and fetch it form of the game.

India are in some serious trouble at 203/10. It is up to the bowlers now to try and win it. We can count ourselves lucky to reach this much as we were like 140/7

Who knows? It's a bit peculiar that they struggle the way they do in One Day cricket anyway. They have a lot of players that perform superbly in the Test arena, and any One Day side would be pleased to have players of the calibre of Flintoff, Pitersen, Trescothick (missing from this tour), Harmison, S Jones, Strauss and the like. I doubt England would ever be dominant in the one day game with those players, but they should be a damn sight better than they are. It's a bit of a mystery. When was the last time they won a one day series away? Probably against Zimbabwe in 2004, I suspect.

Series was drawn 1-1. England, missing five first team players, were pleased with that, India were not.

The One Day game is a different matter entirely. You can make a good case for England being a better side than India in Test cricket, but you'd struggle to make a case for England being better than ANYONE (bar Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, I suppose) in One Day cricket.

Thus, we're getting stuffed, to the shock of precisely no-one.  Wink

Only Banco can answer that, but the commentators are saying that they stay with the same side, eg. Australia makes like 5-6 changes between odi and test but England if their side were fit then they wouldnt make any

Thats the experts comment on this (the commentators)

Maybe. But something the commentators would never say (because they'd get sacked) is that the truth is that English cricket fans often really don't care that much about One Day cricket. Tests are the thing, and it must be at least possible that people's indifference to the performances (yes, we want to win, but if we lose this series 7-0 everyone will shrug their shoulders and say "Who cares") must rub off on the team to at least some extent.

This puts England out of kilter with much of world cricket of course, but it is the case that if England get stuffed in the Tests, there'll be pages in the press lamenting the state of English cricket, but get stuffed on the ODI's and there'll be a collective shrug of the shoulders and various "We really are crap at this one, aren't we?" comments and then move on.

Sounds like India are about to make it 4-0 in the ODI series. Good one them, but the sub continent is a tough place to play ODI's as an englishman. Our wickets over here are just more conducsive of stroke play, whereas i think on the continent you have to attack the ball more on the slower wickets which is why a lot of our batsman seem to get themsleves out rather than making the Indians bowl them out. Oh well.

Regards, HF

I was in UK last week, and the impression I got from the locals as well the Cricket reporting is that English just don't care much for the ODI game.
An English friend was mentioning that they prefer the test much more. ( I don't get it, the fun as far as I am concerned is in the ODI's, The Test is something you just do, and get it over with as soon as possible).

Cheers,
