Need some opinions on this topic...
This local website came up in conversation recently:
...more than one friend/aquaintance said they were impressed by it...but I (having worked with computers for 30+ yrs) thought otherwise...so I replied "I guess we all have different opinions of what makes a website look good...that one has many of the common no-no's from web design books...too many links, too much white space, too many varieties of text size, sound that can't be silenced, background that interferes with text, etc..."
Someone replied "turn down your speakers."
I then wrote "A website should always allow one to mute any sound from it since a user may well be doing something else using speakers at that time, such as listening to podcasts or streaming audio/video, etc. as I tend to do"
So...given that users of A.Net tend to be a bit more Net savy, who is more accurate about this site?
I really thought the site was more towards the amatuerish end of the scale...and the site doesn't really work on Opera and chews up 20% of my system compared to usual 2 to 5% in Opera...
