"Star Wars Kid" Takes Matter To The Courts.

Fri Mar 31, 2006 9:47 pm

I'm sure most people with access to a computer have at one point come across this video: http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/video/swk.php

The Star Wars kid, aka 17 year old Ghyslain Raza, became world famous after he (poorly) impersonated Darth Maul in a home made video in 2003.

The result of this video was discovered by some of his class mates, who uploaded it to Kazaa. The rest is history.

However, what happened later was that Ghyslain was bullied so much in school, that he eventually quit. His parents say that he was, and still is, mocked for the video, resulting in him needing psycriatic treatment in years to come. His parents are therefore claiming roughly $800 000 in compensation, and the court round starts April 10th.

Not everyone laughed at Ghyslain though. Two people raised $4300 so that he could buy himself an ipod. And someone else started a campaign to secure Ghyslain a small role in the last Star Wars movie(!)

Looking at the video, one could suppose that he perhaps needed psychological treatment before he made the video.  Confused

What's so funny about that video? Sure the poor kid looked fairly goofy but dont most teenagers?  wink
I was waiting for him to fall or whack himself in the nuts or something really humiliating. That video is definately not worth 800,000 or 4,300 dollars in pity money!

It's not the original video that made it a (more embarrassing) sensation; it's the dozens, perhaps hundreds, of edited versions that people made. they edited the video to put him in the movies, to put him in other movies, etc. It really took off and was quite hilarious. I do feel for the kid, though. He's from not too far from here, actually!

Here's my favourite version, incidentally: Very well done!

George Lucas must have a bit of spare cash lying around the place... they could sue him for making Star Wars.

That would be a start. After all, you have to sue someone if you screw up. Couldn't be your own fault, these days.

Great now I'm off to watch the original 3 Star Wars'...... ahh well sleep is for the muppets anyway  Wink
