Going To Ikea Just For The Meatballs

Sat Apr 01, 2006 1:06 pm

Does anyone go IKEA to just for their Swedish meatballs? I hardly buy any furniture there.

Anyone else go to a store not to shop, but just to eat at their cafe?

Just wonderin'.

Well...whenever my grandparents take me to the IKEA in Seattle, I spend almost the whole time in the restraunt  biggrin

If that counts...

Also, in upstate New York, there was a Harley-Davidson dealer w/ a BBQ restraunt upstairs (never went there to buy a Harley, unfortunately  Silly). They had chunky gals on unicycles as waitresses...

Unicycles! Man, that must be something.

There's a Galpin dealership somewhere in L.A. that has a Galpin Restaurant which offers good old-fashioned diner fare. That's pretty quaint, I think. Galpin is a huge car dealership.

I might just have to "buy a car" as an excuse to go eat at their cafe.

I remember going to IKEA a few years ago and they had some kick ass Sweadish cookies with names I can't remember and probably can't pronounce.

Are they really that good? I guess I should grab a bag of them like I keep saying I'm going to do every time I go there. I like the Ligonberry coke in the restuarant.

I don't go solely for the meatball the few times I go since the nearest one is 200 miles in Houston, but I look forward to buying a couple of bars of Marabou. They'll be opening a store in Austin in a few months so I can get my fix more frequently.

I take the free IKEA bus in from NYC to the one in Elizabeth, NJ. I always stop off to get something to eat from the cafe and watch the flights at EWR.

No IKEA's in Alaska so I haven't been in one.

I'll have to settle for the Hot Dogs at Costco.

There are 2 IKEA stores near me in New Jersey; Elizabeth, mainly to see some flights at EWR when the cops aren't nosy and Paramus, a newer store. Every time I go there I get something besides food. Often though, I go to them during lunch time. The meatball platters are a good value, like many of their goods. Both of my local units also have snack bars that offer hot dogs for only $.50! I also like the cinnimon buns for $1. A few months ago, I took my mom to the Paramus store, and we only had lunch (yes, we both had the meatball platter). I do have a number of items from IKEA, like the computer table I use (as does my mom's), glasses, a coat rack, knives, cooking tools and pans, a couple of bookcases, some lamps, my coffee table and a number of other other items.

On my twice a year trips to/from MA/FL, I stop at one or more IKEA's to buy food and/or eat....they have some cookies (IKEA brand) that I can't get anywhere else...the vanilla dreams and the oatmeal thins...both closely resemble the ones my late Mom used to make...and the prices on some other brands of cookies are cheaper than same brand in Sweden!

Getting to the Newark store was a PITA, so now I go to the New Haven CT one...very easy to get to from I-95 (IF you take the correct exit!)...

For me, a trip to IKEA is like a one-hour trip to Sweden -- without having to board a plane.

Yup, they're delish, at least in my opinion. I sometimes order them to go, too.

Very clever, those Swedes - if you don't come back just because the cheap-ass furniture breaks after six months, you'll at least come back for the food.  Wink

Yeah. It's those meatballs. They're addictive. Whatever it is that makes them that way, let's hope it remains in good hands.

Well, if the stuff breaks, you obviously aren't very handy at assembling them to begin with. IKEA RULES!  box
Sure, we're concerned for our lives. Just not as concerned as saving 9 bucks on a roundtrip to Ft. Myers.

The Ford dealership down the street from me has a similar type thing as well.

Even though the IKEA here in Atlanta has been open for almost a year, I've yet to trek down there mainly because the one time I was in the area, the traffic was backed up because of folks going to IKEA.

Our standard lack of traffic planning. I can hear the planning meeting now..."Let's slap a huge store here with limited parking and small two lanes road. Yeah, that'll be a good idea."

I may have to make a run down there today to get some for the Final Four games tonight.

When they opened the store in MA last year, they screwed up the traffic for 5 miles around that area, as I understood it, for the first two weeks at least...

I always start off all man like and assume I can do it without reading the directions, and then shortly after that I realize that I should probably follow directions. This process usually works fine until the end, when inevitably one of directions I didn't follow comes back to haunt me when I go to attach the whole piece.

As I make this post, I am typing on a computer which is sitting on a desk with two drawers that unfortunately have no bottoms because I didn't put them in correctly in the beginning...damn dirty swedes  Smile

OK, only see one UK reply. Haven't been to IKEA for ages, do they have pretty much everything the Americans have?

I used to go to IKEA so the kids could get rid of their excessive energy in the playroom, and shop in the meantime. They have great, cheap kids furniture.

Now I'll always go to IKEA around 1700, shop a bit on the accessory floor, then have dinner with the kids who are in the restaurant listening to their Ipods and playing the GameBoy. They've outgrown the playroom and the small furniture  Sad So yes, I go to IKEA to shop a bit and just for the meatballs too if that means not having to cook dinner  Cool
